PS3 Home Official Thread

Just wondering - anybody know when the full version of this service is slated to launch?

Not sure whether people should really consider it much of a BETA if they are charging real money for items.

A friend of mine was looking to get a PS3 for Home, but she said it reminded her of the Sims Online. I tried to tell her it is different but I only know what I have read on the boards. Does anyone have any comparisons I could relay to her?

Never played Sims Online but to me it feels like Second Life in HD minus the ability to fly. I know they're totally different but that's the vibe I get from it.

HOME is too bare and boring for me. BUT I know that with Sony it will be rapidly evolved. I'll login again in a year's time, by then there should be some major additions that will keep me interested... Hopefully.

One interesting thing I've noticed. It seems that most (yes, over half) of the people whose gamer cards I look at in Home have played LBP. Not really surprising when you think about it.

For anyone interested there's a trick to Echochrome stage B. I'm going to post it on gametrailers as soon as the video completes for anyone who wants those rewards...

You are alright, hurry up buddy!

So I messed around a bit today, and I gotta say, kinda wished Sony didn't waste their time with this. Felt so refreshing going back to HD Remix, playing actual video games.

Haha, I'm about to upload it now--gametrailers can be kind of iffy though, so we'll see if it works or not (I just uploaded one yesterday that had trouble...)

Sorry for double post--Windows Movie Maker is acting up. Does anyone else have a good method of converting movie files for upload to gametrailers? I capture to my Logitech Quickcam 9000 in .wmv, but for whatever reason, the converted version (compressed for file size) is all green and pixelated...)

Despite all the cryin some on here are doing, I had tons of fun on home just running around. This thing can be a hit. I bet once a similar concept appears on 360, all of a sudden, its 3d avatars in a virtual world done right. Home is a lot of fun, and it excites me that they have a lot they can add to make it even better.

I had fun sitting down in the mall with some fellow and playing a game of chess, with onlookers commenting. That kind of social interaction is something new to me on consoles, and I'd like to see where Sony can go with it.

So.. not all bad.

I'm sure it's been mentioned a bazillion times already, but the Home world, as of now, is pretty desolate. There is soooo much potential with it and I was expecting a lot of that potential to be realized with the opening of the beta, but after spending 20-30mins on it today, I realized that (aside from the two game zones) it's pretty much as void of entertainment as the closed beta was.

When games start to award Home unlockables (like the psn namco classics game that's coming up, which allows you to unlock functional arcade cabinets for your personal spaces in Home), I think people will eventually start using it more and more just to try out all the sweet gear they got from unlocking a given trophy. It's digital rewards for your virtual accomplishments... very cool.

Ultimately though, it's frustrating simply because only a few slight changes could make Home reach the massive potential that it has. Unfortunately, it's already burned through what little patience most gamers have... I mean, I probably won't boot up home again until someone says there's something worth checking out (which could be a long while.)

Wow, Sony needs to start getting some new blood.

To hear about this 3 years ago and realize how long it is beta, to be in this state is dissapointing to say the least. I found the whole experience to be "sterile"

I think about how MS announced NXE about 6 months ago? generated enough hype that people risked bannings to download an unauthorized updated firmware.

Sony should have kept Home closer to their chest, they really killed any hype that HOME should have been generating.

Let's see how the final product ends up

edit: 2 years ago...typo my bad

I won't be using Home, but I just hope it doesn't lose money for Sony and stop them from adding functionality to the XMB.

They really have to just face it that Microsoft had some awesome ideas and copy it wholesale, while also doing stuff that leverages their own strengths (i.e. blu-ray, etc.).

Wow, how'd you hear about this three years ago?!?!

Exaggerate much? ;)

Okay, I posted a version of my video with the trick for Echochrome's Stage B on GameTrailers, but like I said before it was all buggy and...green? I'm trying to use Linux now to import and convert/compress the file for the upload to GameTrailers now, since that green video ALSO cut out a large percentage of the video...

edit: The URL is http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/295917.html in case you want to see it all greenified. I'll re-post when I get the new version up. No point in watching the whole video, really, just get an idea of what you need to do and you should have it covered...

I would happily trade anything now or in the future of HOME for persistent voice chat and a party system in the XMB.

What a horrible waste of money.

Only to impress the ladies : )

Being married with kids means....not for the last decade : (

Was a typo, the point was Sony could have generated a shitload of hype but wasted it. The final product could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, we'll see

Whenever you heard about it first, add 6 months to a year and that's the development. They usually don't announce things when they are literally "on the drawing board". It had to already have been through pre-planning, planning, and initial development prior to its first announcement.

The Uncharted "HOME space" was poorly conceived
-The bar is tiny and cramped, the content within isn't so hot (terrible trailer, should be Uncharted 2, and the flash game blows)
-You need to visit an outside source to learn the door codes, or spam/scream at the other people in the bar until somebody tells you (which everyone is doing constantly, it seems)
-You need to enter the codes EVERY time you want to enter the room, not just the first time
-You have to wait in line to use the keypad, just like the damn arcade games!

Yea, those are pretty big issues. Unfortunately, they're not even worth going to in the first place--quite a lot of effort for such a waste of time, in my opinion...

No you dont. Once you enter a space just use the...uh....Virtual System(?) goto Locations and then goto favorites and favorite the 3 Uncharted spaces.

Really hope they launch that Red Bull space soon but right now I am having fun unlocking stuff

I think I remember them saying not at the launch of Home but soon after (I would think before the end of 08 but I dunno)

Of all the games I must say the airplane game in the Red Bull space is the best one I've seen.

Can't wait for new mall stuff. I hope they update it every Thursday.

That's poor logic though. That shouldn't be the only way to directly access a location like that. It's poor and/or lazy design if that's the case. (Which it is)

Quoting this for usefulness. Got the first level echochrome awards. These arcade games are kinda addictive. They need to add some co-op action though. 2-4 player games would be sweet.

Exactly. I was in the Xbox Live beta ages ago, back when they put up ReVolt cars for a fee (though it didn't charge you real money) to test the system and BROUGHT AN END TO GAMING AS WE KNOW IT. Charging actual money for items makes the 'beta' release excuses a bit less tangible.

Those three rooms are not accessible from the World Map, even though I've been in all of them.

Yea but its still helpful for now (Hopefully they change it)

Also just logged into my PSN account...I got about 60 people wanting to join my club...I guess I should'nt have had the name of the club be "LittleBigPlanet" dang its weird I'e never been this popular :lol

I'll probally have to shoot most or all down because of the club limit...and save those spaces for people who want to join and dont put a blank message.

Man! I still don't see what you do, it's really hard to make out. I'm going to have to wait until you fix it!

Home is such a waste. Sony should have never showed this when they did. Should have just announced it two months ago or something and dropped it when ready. Anyone that's been remotely hyped will most likely be disappointed. The highlight of this is trolling other PS3 owners.

I like how in the bowling alley, the trailers use this logo at the end, Would be sooo much more legible than what they currently have on tv.

at least it's improving... first day it was mostly error C-991, now 931... when it will reach 0 i'll be able to login i hope

HOME BETA....

I think that should say it all for all of those who are actually complaining about it,yes it doesn't have much but is just starting, people should give it at least a year before actually flaming, who really expected sony to release Home not beta with 600 features and things this year?

People should be more flexible when it comes to this things,is on beta stage for god sake.

Your argument has no merit. Like Gmail, Home will forever be a "moving target", receiveing updates and improvments over time. It doesn't matter if it says Beta on the title screen, it is available to all PS3 users and they are charging really money for content. The "real" Beta is what was going on for about a year.
