So I'll finally be able to try this out. Don't think I'll use it that much, though: it just seems like a glorified chat room.

really? so you read both of these...

..and still think that? whatever.

that redbull thing looks like a pilotwings event, HOT. and i LOVE that both that and the moterstorm kart race will have scoreboards updating live in the space..... i think sony are actaully doing what i hoped they would with this thing. awesome.

I like the idea of going to an R2 room and talk about the game and form a party and then launch the game from there.

It would be like being able to launch into a game straight from the GAF thread, if everyone in the GAF thread had a red afro and loved body popping.

edit: That reminds me, I have to get back into the GAF Warhawk clan so we can try out that 3D map.

getting special home items for finishing parts of game sounds actually very cool... a lot cooler for me than trophies. I want to see how good is that implemented.

It does, which is cool. I just hope it controls OK.

I wonder if leaderboards will be global or just for this space instance..maybe they could have both.

MotorKartStorm sounds..interesting..

It would be THE compulsion for me to visit home regularly, and to actually visit friend's homes. To see what game unlockables they have. It looks like the only support there at the moment is namco home museum, though. Sony should make this part of the TRCs.

I've been in home for awhile am looking forward to seeing you guys there. Now if Amazon will just get their shipment of wireless controllers in. Add me as a friend if your like PSN: Darvan

So much potential in this idea, how can you not get excited. HOME will be a win for me if they can get the party system working. Crash my pad, talk $hit about who's better at Motorstorm 2, pop in the game, beat the competition.

I hope FN4 will work. Would like to talk crap to random people then ask to fight.

Which party system? At the moment, there is no such thing in home. Was that announced somewhere?

I think he means game launching, which some refer to as a party management system. It sort of is, but it's an implicit party up until you actually join a game session..there are no explicit parties within home, which is something they might want to fix so that people can actually navigate from space to space together...

Ah, I thought so. I would LOVE to see Parties in home that are consistent throughout games like NXE has, and always wondered why home doesn't have such a feature.

So when you group in HOME it will not follow through once you select a game? Kinda sucks if so.

I wish I could find the link back when Sony first anounced home, someone from MS pretty much said there was no way they would be able to release what they had announced.

2 years later and it is true. I think people would love HOME right not had Sony not given crazy expectations.

You can't "group" in home, there's no option for that. You only can launch Warhawk or join launched games.

I think everybody is kind of confused about that.

They can be consistent across games, the actual problem is consistency within home itself!

If there's a group of people together in home, they can go into supporting games (i.e. warhawk, currently) as a group and come back out together as a group. But the group actually forms and becomes explicit when a new game session is created. So from session to session people may leave the group or join it, but if a group of people wanted to stick together over a number of games they could certainly do that.

The problem is navigating between spaces together inside of Home. I tried this before with friends, and you often end up in different space instances because Home doesn't have an explicit way to tag a group as a party that should stay together within Home. And it can't really determine that implicitly..how does it know when you're in a group and when you're not? Or when you want to leave one and join another? It kind of has to be explicit.

If you stay within the same space, though, keeping a group together across multiplayer game sessions is quite doable.

Maybe I misunderstood you but Home will do this. What happens is you set up a game of Warhawk (for example), then anyone is free to join that game. When the person who created the game session launches into Warhawk you'll all follow. At that point though, you're free to keep playing, go back to home etc. If you want to go from Warhawk to R2 you'll have to go back to Home and set up a new game, this time of R2.

Just to clarify, if you join someones game and they launch, it will take you into the game automatically.

edit: Also gofreak, you forgot to mention that game sessions will be canceled if you travel between spaces, so even if you are part of an explicit group, you'll be yanked apart if anyone leaves. At least that's how it worked before the update (haven't tried it since). So many little fixes are necessary to get home where it should be I'm afraid. Something tells me the rollout will not be pretty.

I honestly know nothing about HOME :D

I did not interest me and I only recently picked up a PS3, still it's free so I'll mess around with it

Does the beta allow you to send cross-game invites to friends?

No, and up until that article linked earlier, there was no indication from Sony that this would be possible. But apparently now they're saying it might be possible to implement cross game invites via Home, by pulling people through the game-session/party system. That being the case, invites would only be possible between game-launching-supporting games, of course.

Sounds like they have some good content planned. They need more though and fast. Showing concept art doesn't inspire hope that these things will be out soon. Still this will be a great improvement over the beta.

Also, no mention on the personal media use? They have options for picture frames and TVs/Radios. GIVE US THE OPTION TO USE IT TOMORROW.

Finally!! Something new to look while running around the plaza, other then 23 people standing around doing the Robot. :lol

Can't wait to see what the Uncharted area looks like.

*those screen shots with the Diesel clothing store pictured... are we going to have ACTUAL brand clothing and furniture???

I can't imagine what the items will cost in real $$.... I hope it doesn't backfire Sony!
Looking forward to checking this out with the new content.

I'm in the beta and I see a lot of potential for Home. I also would like Home Items unlocked for in game achievements. gofreak makes an excellent point on how item unlocks can make Home more compelling. I'm excited to try the new content out as well. Even if it turns out not to be my cup of tea I appreciate the added value that this gives to the PS3.

i think i could somewhat enjoy home if the avatars didn't look like zombies. seriously, they need to redesign that shit before it's too late.

I've got an idea, lets give them small bodies and oversized cartoon-like heads!

I've made about as disgusting an avatar as you can make. People feel compelled to mock my paunchy, balding character as I walk through the square. I wish there was a hump back option. Make it happen, Sony!

Absolutely. If it goes well with minor issues, that would be an accomplishment. Thanks for clarifying launching game sessions. Important points are leaving spaces which will kill off the game session and having to go back home to get into another game session.

which brings me to another point ... (a bit off topic but somehow relates)

I'm interested in how you would go back HOME if in a game session. Probably through in-game XMB. Personally I like in the in-game XMB conceptually but its a slow. I hope they come up with a better and faster in-game solution. Also ... what if the person who created the game session ended his/her game. Who this mean that the other players in the session have the option of still playing that game?

"This game is occupied"

I can kind of understand the need for player limits on a game like that, though, more than on an arcade game. If you're actually, physically, going to be playing in the environment...having too many people flying around could be a bad thing. Hopefully it'll let a decent number of people play at the same time though..but 64 (a space's pop cap) may be pushing it.. (?)

I'm not sure of these questions because I really only briefly tested it just to see that it worked, but getting back from a game into Home is via the XMB (there's a 'quit to home' option if you launched from Home). It's also worth noting that it takes a bit longer than would be nice to get from game to home.

I'm just excited that this shit is finally going to be out there for everyone to judge for them self's. I have no idea what to expect.

It looks like they're getting a good handle on what makes Home fun/useful. Tons of little opportunities for lightweight community interaction. Voting on songs (even if they blow), group treasure hunts, live events. All great things.

Gushing aside, what's this about the party feature not being live at launch? That's the #1 most important feature, and it's not live yet? It was in the beta before it wasn't.

Happy to hear this. I have really liked HOME so far and am looking forward to the new content. Too bad it will have to wait until Friday, I have to finish finals first. :(

I think there will be two concerns coming out of this as people start using it more

1. Speed of in-game XMB (in general)
2. Speed of ending game session back to HOME

Concern 1 is more of system wide concern which I hope Sony will address some day. I personally love the mini blade function of NXE. I don't think you need all the functions of the XMB.

I know that if you launch into Warhawk and then quit Warhawk you end up back in Home. What happens if you launch into Warhawk from Home, then pull up the XMB and launch into another game or demo? Does it crash? Does it start that game while quitting Home?

I'm lazy to check right now.

Motion controls please... that would be really nice.

That said, I am curious to see how much stuff they have ready to go tomorrow vs today's beta.

Heh, some people here complain that some of the functions are missing, I dont think Sony will cull them back.

But what thy essentially need to bring it down to is a mini XMB.

In version 0.96 (the last with game launching iirc), you'd get an option to enter back into Home or just quit the game. If you tried to launch something else from in-game XMB, it warned you that you would lose your Home session.

I really, really hope the text keyboard lag is fixed.
It was meant to be on the last firmware update but alas it was not.
It's bloody annoying.
But to be honest I really enjoy home and I was the biggest sceptic in the world about it.
It's not perfect but there is something about it I can't really explain.
There are times I switch on my PS3 for some motorstorm PR and I check out home to see if it's busy and I end up in home all night.
