Not having enough games/alleys for everybody in a room is quite deliberate I'm sure (especially for arcade games). Sony didn't dump all that money into Home so people could play crappy free games, Home is there for people to socialize and find new friends to play real multiplayer games with. The free games are there as an attraction, to force people to interact with each other so they can play. For crying out loud, one of the arcade games is called "Ice Breaker".

Even the more anti-social gamers who just want to play the breakout clone are stuck standing near the arcade units, near other online-recluses doing the same. Sooner or later, a conversation is likely to break out, even if just to complain about the lack of sufficient arcade units. It's one of the few design aspects of Home that I'm impressed with.

And as for things I'm not impressed with, I can't believe the facial hair icon in character setup has a mustache AND beard (commonly referred to as a goatee, but more correctly a Van Dyck), but STILL does not have a Van Dyck as an option! You can have a mustache straight from a 70's kung fu movie, you can (finally) have a beard, but god forbid you have both. argh.

Well if Sony want people to interact with each other they should put out more multiplayer board games. Or put out a fucking karaoke stage so people can make an ass out of themselves. That would be fun.

Okay, everything got installed, but when I press X to connect, it tells me "there has been a problem downloading content" and nothing more. Any tips?

Holy crap, a mini SingStar game lounge room would be awesome!

i bought a suite for 49 cent and now i know i will spend more money in home. I really don't care but now a lot of people start to talk with me as soon as i enter the room :lol Pl(G)aystation 3 confirmed. It is very entertaining.

ps. I am from Europe and i find being gay totally OK ;)

To be fair, Home appeals to the chatters at the moment. I have seen people with costumes and purchased clothes. They add variety to the environment, so I'm all for it.

They need to roll out the game launching feature for the rest of the people though.

I hope they are clothes pieces, not a full suit. In other words, use the pants, shoes, gloves separately from the jacket, helmet...

At the Amazon link it seems to say you can.

With costume pieces for your head, torso, legs, hands and feet; you can customize your Home avatar to look like an ISA Soldier, a Helghast Assault Trooper, or something in between.

Yeah, nothing was posted in this thread other than the Amazon link. When I first visited that link the "Costumes" part of that didn't have an underline on it signifying it was a link to click on. I revisited it and now it does.

IN it's current state , why would you want ANY costume in HOME? Seriously - HOME is a joke right now... give us something to do, Sony

What the fuck do you wanna do? It's like a virutal chatroom ... so you chat in it. It's not a videogame.

So I fired up Home after not being there a week or so and downloaded a 1.05 update.

My avatars are all glitchy. Like missing hair, clothing, etc. For example, I was a floating head and hands at some point. Anyone else have this problem?

It is a broken and under-featured chat-room right now... and I sure hope that Sony does not have this limited view of HOME as they would be wasting the service's potential...

Its a beta for a reason.

Anyhow waiting for LE version to pre-order this on amazon.

Those things you can buy are just rediculous, and so are the prices :lol
Enjoy your 1.99 wooden chair :lol

Just amazing they went for the microtransaction thing here instead of a reward/trophy system that was promised. I sure hope it fails.

You've failed, cause that was never promised.

Exactly, it could use much more distractionary content, but it's ultimately a glorified chatroom system to casually allow PS3 users to interact. It will have the feature tie ins like game launching, but big deal until they're actually around.

They just need to expand the content; right now HOME is fine. If it's exactly like this 2 months from now, then there's a problem, but it won't be.

it's as much of a beta as gmail is. It'll always be a beta because it'll constantly be evolving. Calling it a beta doesn't give it a reason to suck as much as it does

I don't get this sentiment. I personally don't like Home, I checked it out a few times and it's not for me. But it's obvious that people are enjoying it in its current state, and that it's meeting Sony's goals in terms of profitability (I'm astounded at the amount of people wearing premium clothing, including the santa outfit, whenever I load it up).

I see Home as a side function of the PS3 and am totally fine with the fact that it's not for me. If they want to add stuff that appeals to me, great, but I don't feel they NEED to make me happy in order for Home to serve a purpose.

It's not that hard to understand, I remember when the PS3 wasn't even able to play PS1 games that were downloaded off the PS Store, no In-Game XMB, Old shitty Store interface, et cetera. They certainly made strives in those areas and wouldn't be surprised if they did it with this considering its making them money. This post isn't directed to you of course but I just wanted to say this. :lol

I agree. Look at the change in the PS3 year on year, even 6 month increments.

12/01/08 - 2.53 (Flash player upgrades, RTMP streaming)
11/04/08 - 2.52 (On-screen keyboard fixes and PAL video settings)
10/14/08 - 2.50 (Tons of refinements to the speed and layout of the XMB, PS Store, Options and Account Management, Power management options, improved Bluetooth headset support)

09/16/08 - 2.43 (Preparation for launch of Japan video store - mandatory only for Japan)
07/29/08 - 2.42 (Stability of PS3 and PS1 games improved)
07/08/08 - 2.41 (Streamlined FW updating and new icon for platinum trophies)
07/02/08 - 2.40 (In-game XMB, Trophies, new Store view mode, friends limit increased to 100, better DivX support, upscaling of videos on the HDD, MP3 Surround support)
06/18/08 - 2.36 (Improved system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles)
05/14/08 - 2.35 (Improved stability of some PS3 titles)
04/14/08 - 2.30 (PS Store revamped, DTS-HD-MA and DTS-HD audio codec support added)

03/24/08 - 2.20 (Blu-Ray profile 2.0 support, DVD/BD resume play, browser improved, DIVX support enhanced, PSP/PS3 remote play and connectivity enhanced)
03/12/08 - 2.17 (Stability for online gaming improved)
12/17/07 - 2.10 (DIVX and WMV codec support, BD 1.1 support, voice modulation, PS1 games playable via remote play)
11/19/07 - 2.01 (Stability and bug fixes for issues with 2.00)
11/07/07 - 2.00 (New sorting options for video & game, photo & audio playlist support, view videos while downloading, store & browser faster, new Flash version, Information board)
10/23/07 - 1.94 (Included on R&C disk - enables Dual Shock 3 support)
09/12/07 - 1.93 (Fix for Warhawk and PSN connection issues)

09/03/07 - 1.92 (Quicker XMB loading, web browser improvements, bug fixes)
07/23/07 - 1.90 (XMB Backgrounds, CD upsampling, can change PS1/PS2 video settings in-game, XMB game list sorting)
06/27/07 - 1.82 (Included AVC high profile support)
06/13/07 - 1.81 (fixed "full" option not sticking on RGB)
05/23/07 - 1.80 (PSX/PS2/DVD Upscaling, DNLA streaming, BLU-RAY 720p, Memory Card adapter functionality improved)
04/18/07 - 1.70 (Rumble for PS1/PS2, PS1 downloads playable on PS3)
03/22/07 - 1.60 (BG downloading, Folding@Home, Europe BC Enabled)

So if they are as responsive about Home as they have been about XMB in general, it should be a completely different beast relatively quickly. And I dont mean game spaces, as those are up to developers, but core features.

Damn shame how poorly they've handled home even post open beta release.

They need to have continuous updated content ever week at minimum. A new location, new movies, new objects, clothing, updates. They've done nothing in the US except a santa suit.

Giant Bomb still gave it their "Game" of the Year award :D
http://www.giantbomb.com/features/best-of-2008/1/?category=4

Overall Home's an interesting effort, though I have to admit just wandering around you can totally see every chick has a mob of guys around them trying to get their number or somesuch. That being said, had a great game of chess with one guy last night in the mall, and when we were done we stood up and there was six people standing around watching the game (they weren't even waiting for the table to free up).

Pretty nifty.

Not true. They also added new trailers and different ads everywhere. Also new clothes, the santa stuff as well as the suits. And I think some new furniture, some shelves and stuff that I had not seen before.

That was around the 20th update. We are now about a week after that, so I imagine the next update ought to be sometime this week. Xmas and New Years throw everything off...

Home is nice and it has potential to be much better but they need to fix a few problems and to expand on its features.
The best thing in Home atm are its games (bowling, pool, chess, checkers and more), I think they should really expand on this aspect with more games because it's a big opportunity, card games would be nice (I don't know if they have problems with them because of the gambling nature but afterall there is no money involved) and where are my pinballs? They could license a few real pinball games by Williams and Data Est (Black Knight, Hook, White Water), I'd love it :P
A negative aspect is that you have to wait like in real life if you want to play, that could be a significant problem if the community grows.
A big problem in Home is communication, this is a console community and it shows, virtually no one has a keyboard so it's really difficult to chat beyond the usual 'hello', 'where are you from',etc. Too many people are just running, dancing, doing stupid things because it's difficult to communicate. The worst thing is that it's a really difficult issue to fix because of the console nature.
The theater section is under developed and disappointing, there are too few trailers, video quality is bad, there is not a real full screen option and no internal video streaming.
I would also like to see more downloadable contents, especially more estates (which are the only things I'd pay for atm).
Can't comment on the game themed sections because they have not launched those in Europe yet.
Overall I think Home atm is a decent free application, but again it has the potential to be much more but they need to continue to develop the product, hopefully the Home vision will be fully realized by the end of 2009.

So finally HOME is working again for me.
And i want to ask this:
Im a douchebag for having reported a user ?
This guy was insulting everyone and saying racial stuff... so i reported him.
Im a douchebag?
