PS3 Home Official Thread

So, I just tried out the Japanese Home, and... wow? They have a fucking multiplex? WTF?! Why can't we have a fucking multiplex?

Also, why is there a UFO half-sunk in the water? And what's up with all of the billboards with icons and whatnot? I'm so confused, are they having some sort of event?

I don't think so because I don't see anybody chatting on the US servers anymore, they used to but not anymore, now whenever I press triangle nothing happens, if I go to EU or JP servers then I press triangle and can easily type something.

No JP Home has always been like that.

Thanks, I might've changed the settings somehow by accident.

Stay close to it and start to press right until you reach the airplane option.

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

What do you mean? I stand in front of it and try to see until it says Red Bull Air Racing, but what do you mean by pressing right?

Also how do you get under 1 minute on that track? The best times are 48 seconds and mine is over 2 minutes.

I think he wastalking about the difficulty in actually selecting the race. It can be a total clusterfuck if it's busy in there. I had that problem last night.

In response to your question though, up and down on the right stick control your speed. You also need to use R1 and L1 to tilt your craft for certain checkpointsor you get a penalty.

Does anyone know if your home items, clothing, spaces, etc are saved server side or in your saved data file? I want to delete Home temporarily from my xmb and I want to know if i'll lose all my stuff by deleting the program itself.

You shouldn't. they are linked to your PSN account (confirm by going under account management and clicking "view services").

You can get a free wireless PS3 keypad if you're good at racing the Red Bull Air Race. Contest already started and is running until tomorrow, top 5 times get a wireless keypad.

Any news on game launching from HOME?

I'm surprised at how totally indifferent I've been to Home since I was let into the beta. Unless it's changed dramatically since the last time I bothered to boot it up (around when it went "public"), it seems to be badly missing a "point".

If they want me going into home on any kind of regular basis, they need to appeal to the 6 year old playing Final Fantasy on his NES in me and include some kind of method of getting experience points for enduring the highschool/college students banter.

A: "WUT IS UP"
B: "I AM 16, R U A GIRL?"
A: "I AM 15 I IS NOT A GIRL, GIRLS R HOT."
A: *Dance*
B: *Dance*
C: "ANY HOT LADIES IN DA HOUSE? HOLLA"
Me: Quit Game

Curious, but has there been literally no update to Home since the Red Bull Air Race?

Hey, no need to go after the high school/college students--it's not about age it's about maturity. (I'm a college senior)

I'll have you know I never once filled those awful stereotypes in an online chat. Just have to be mature and there are no problems. Now, if only people were more mature...

Tomorrow morning Home will be offline from 8am UK. Once it comes back online patch 1.10 will be available for download.

It's a relatively small update, but it contains some key improvements to speed things up for everyone.
The initial login speed has been improved, as has the loading speed of characters and some of the graphics.

An important update in this patch is to the system that stores item data. This should prevent items, like rewards, from being lost in the future. With this fix in place the team can then set about restoring your lost items, and we will bring you more news on that soon.

The majority of this update is made up of bug fixes and small changes and improvements. For example, here are a few fixes that were asked for recently in the forums:

* Names of Home rewards will now show when you obtain them
* Items in My Home Space should no longer vanish if you leave lamps lit when leaving.
* Single seat chairs and sofas can no longer be used by two people in certain conditions

Enjoy your time in Home and please share your experiences and thoughts with us via the forums. We really do read them.

Well I haven't jumped into home for a little over a month now, is there anything new and exciting happening? Seems like Sony really hit a wall with this one, doesn't look like they even know where to take it. I guess I was a little overly confident when it launched, but now that I see there isn't any point to loading the whole thing up, I must agree that Home might be just a waste at this time. I hope that it isn't but its looking kinda grim at this point.

Japanese Home is just over-all better.

Uh, you didn't visit the Gallery yet ? Go treasure hunting ! Win a PSP !

I'll have a look at it.

Just seems like the pace of updates isn't as it should be.

At least if there's not going to be 'game support'. If games were actually supporting item unlocking and game launching, they wouldn't need to be constantly updating it with new spaces or whatever..but in the absence of that support, new spaces etc. are the only reason for me, at least, to revisit home.

Bug fixing is nice and all, but they're just polishing infrastructure that literally only one game uses currently. Getting more support should be a priority.

One of the Home mods outlined lots of incoming things:

Okay guys and gals - as promised, we’re going to give you a peek into what to expect in terms of content updates in the very near future. Note: We’re not releasing exact dates to the public on any of this. Don’t ask; we won’t tell. The only way to make sure you don’t miss out is to log in to PlayStation Home often.

Anyhow, coming straight for you all are:

A proverbial boatload of game spaces - including spaces for Warhawk, SOCOM, Resistance, and many, many more (we’ll announce more spaces in the coming weeks)...

Of course, you’re all aware of the EA Sports Complex. But let’s just say that is coming sooner rather than later. And it’s cooler than you imagined.

These spaces will usher in the next phase of Home. They will begin to utilize this uber-powerful platform’s true capabilities. We’re talking unlocking items in the games you play from Home (and vice versa), mini-games that take full advantage of the Sixaxis controller, game launching integration. The whole shebang!

We also have leaderboards. Huzzah!

You can also count on tons of apartments and clubhouses that boast increasingly interactive environments. These spaces are freakin’ awesome. You’re going to love ‘em.

Picture frames are coming back. We’re not giving a solid date at this time, but suffice to say you will have them very, very soon.

You’ll have more music, more regularly. And, yes, there will be all different styles (this means that all of you rockers can rejoice!)

You’ll have a bigger Theater, and it will be full of videos (and not just trailers either).

You’ll be able to customize your avatar with more gear – and this stuff is hot. Oh, and there are tons of options for the girls as well. We’re not forgetting about you.

And, to top it all off, we’re gonna be throwing tons of parties, contests, and other events in Home (including a special event to coincide with Valentine’s Day. It’s going to be a killer event). The prizes will be bigger and better than ever before. If you haven’t participated in anything we’ve done before, we’re sure you will now.

See, we weren’t lying when we said we were going to make good on our word to you all.

We appreciate your patience while we make the final tweaks to ensure that all of this is smooth as can be. And we appreciate you diehards keeping the faith while the naysayers pretended like the Beta launch was the be-all, end-all of Home. No way, no how.

Septimus, you got a link for that? Not that it doesn't ring true but being an avid Warhawk lover I wanna see it for myself before wetting my pants.

Cheers.

Yay ! Game launching and Resistance 2 space !

Me too, but sadly I've lost all confidence in Sony this gen

Some stuff seems interesting, but nothing really exciting. Personally I'd prefer for them to set aside more resources to get the PS3's firmware more like the NXE, rather than doing game launching or whatever, but it's good to see they're planning on keeping some of the shit they promised. I'm still bewildered that the trophy room isn't there yet. Come the fuck on Sony!!!

Hmm... Tons of game-spaces, item unlocks, a better theater, more music, pic frames, in the "very near future"? I hope VNF means sometime in the next six months or so.

Anyway, Hype +1

Why secretly ? Is not that you can get banned from NeoGAF for rooting for Home in public.... is it? :D

1.10 patch is up.

It's not the whole 'Locust_Star wait for it' thingy, but the one that was announced a few days ago... Not sure if it adds the Cafe' or whatever. 77 MB. Downloading now

My good friend, could you check if game launch was implemented ? Resistance 2 in particuar. :D
Thanks.

Nope, 'twas not. I think that's all coming in the next update. Warhawk is still the only Game-launching game supported.

Although, I think Insomniac'd need to to patch the game to allow game-launching too, iirc.

Not really disagreeing with you...but personally I think it's a higher priority to have GT5: Prologue support over any other game. At least Resistance has in-game party support. GT5's got nuthin'. A GT5 space that looks like the Detroit Auto Show with racing/car enthusiasts running around would be the best, especially if you could set up matches there.

Patch Notes:

1.10 Patch Notes

New features

* We have added a new Remove Player function that allows the creator to remove people from a Game Launching session. This is complemented by the Block Player function, accessible via the Safe Screen, which can be used to stop people rejoining.

Changes and Improvements

* The speed of the initial log-on process has been improved and a progress bar has been added to provide you with more information about what is happening.
* Items that you have already purchased will now be loaded when you first log-in, reducing the loading time when you enter stores in the Mall.
* Other players avatars will now load faster when you enter a space.
* The names of Home reward items will now be shown when you obtain them.
* Download priorities have been changed so that certain graphics and images (like thumbnail images and World Map chips) will download more quickly.
* The inventory system (that stores Home Reward items) has been reworked and made more robust. We have also implemented additional safeguards to help ensure that you cannot inadvertently lose any of your items.
* The Chat log window will now always be displayed on top of any other on-screen graphics, except when zoomed in to a video or poster. When zoomed in, the chat window will no longer display.
* The size of the text box has been improved on message boards in Clubhouses.
* The option to Block voice chat has been changed to Block chat which will allow you to block both voice chat and text chat at the same time. Players blocked with this feature will not be automatically added to the block list on your Friends list.
* The game camera will now go into attract mode once you have been idle for more than 3 minutes.
* The Resign sub leader command has been removed from the Menu Pad. Club leaders will now have to downgrade sub leaders if they wish.
* We have further improved the UI for a variety of systems including Game Launching, Clubhouses and the Store.
* We have made several memory optimizations to improve client stability.
* We have made graphical improvements to particle systems and water effects.

* You can now turn lighting objects on/off in your Personal Space.
* Furniture layout issues in Clubhouses have been resolved.
* The Refresh Club Menus option in the Menu Pad should now work as intended.
* Dates will now be displayed on Clubhouse bulletin board messages.
* A fix has been applied to the Home Safe Screen reporting process.
* Your screen will no longer freeze if you leave a game session with the game disc ejected.
* Item names and prices will now display correctly in the Mall.
* Wallpapers will now be displayed properly when you invite friends to your Harbour Studio.
* You will no longer be able to make a phone call to players who have deactivated voice chat.
* You should now be able to use two-seater sofas properly.

They'll probably do that for GT5, but that should be secondary to PD working on the netcode, damage modeling, dynamic weather, etc...

Why can't we have the functionaity of inviting people to my game launch DURING the game?, And also inviting people who are different spaces! :(
