As of January 2009, Sony Computer Entertainment handed out 24 licenses for PlayStation Home development. Just because a publisher has a license doesn’t automatically mean they have plans to set up shop and hock virtual items. A license means they can do that kind of thing or utilize the PlayStation Home reward system.

Nippon Ichi is doing exactly that by selling Prinny decorations and avatar items based on physical t-shirts. Namco Bandai used their license to integrate a collection of classic Namco arcade games into PlayStation Home in addition to selling Pac-Man t-shirts. Paon who holds the rights to a handful of Data East intellectual properties haven’t done anything with theirs.

Not surprised Square hasn't gotten aboard yet.

What's the history?

Anyways, some big names missing from that list, SE, Take 2 and Bethesda immediately come to mind and some of those will probably only be in JP Home.

XD well... last year I gave away the full title of Animal Crossing Wii before it was announced, and I was right. I also said they were working on Pikmin 3, but they didn't show that... /shrug. Either way I just want a new tag :lol

Outside of the items and rewards, SFIV also ties closely to Home through in-Home matching. This won't be available on SFIV's release date, but Ono said to expect it to come with the next major update (we're not sure if he's talking about the next major update for Home or the next major update for SFIV). Ono seems excited about the matching feature, suggesting that it will offer the feeling of playing in an arcade, even more than SFIV's arcade mode matching feature.

Ono also discussed some of the possibilities for Home Clubs. He suggested that if Tekken 6 were to have a tie-up with Home, perhaps they could create some form of tournament pitting the Tekken 6 community versus the Street Fighter IV community. Jokingly, he suggested that the Tekken 6 development staff who were reading the article should give Home compatibility consideration.

Ninjas and more coming to HOME!

Sweet! Ninja outfits! Day 1 for me:D

We’ve got some big plans for PlayStation Home coming up, some of which may involve ninjas and street fighters. We thought that would grab your attention. It did for us at SCEA.

And as we continue to expand upon existing content with PlayStation Home spaces, we’ve introduced a leaderboard for the Red Bull Air Race in the Red Bull space. We recently made the most of these new leaderboards with a contest to see who could get the highest scores. Shopaholics rejoice too, you’ll find some cool new virtual items at the mall, including ninja and pirate costumes.

As you may have heard, Capcom is set to expand its blockbuster franchises globally with Street Fighter and Resident Evil within PlayStation Home. Resident Evil 5 fans can launch straight from PlayStation Home into the game. And for the Street Fighter fans, Capcom is bringing Street Fighter IV costumes and additional themed content to PlayStation Home, much of which will be unlocked through in-game actions.

I know that is a lot to digest, but that’s not all … in the next few months, gamers will find even more clothing, furniture and events taking place throughout PlayStation Home, including the launch of the Warhawk space (complete with game launching), SOCOM space, and the recently announced Gamer’s Lounge. This will be another hang-out space for the community to mix and mingle, just like you would at a real lounge. We will also hold special events here such as developer talks and parties. Along with the spaces, you can bet you’ll find even more impromptu promotions and giveaways taking place.

And as for the ninjas …. On February 12th, sweet ninja outfits will be available for purchase at the Mall to dress your PlayStation Home avatar up in. Yeah, ninja outfits! And to celebrate their arrival, we’re holding a contest: On February 13th, we’ll be holding a contest event called “I Love Ninjas.” The first instance of the brand-new community-named Home hang-out space, the Gamer’s Lounge, to be completely filled with people in ninja costumes (or a reasonable facsimile using all-black clothing items in your inventory) that we see will win vouchers for SOCOM and Warhawk to celebrate the upcoming spaces.

What events would you like to see?

Ninja outfits, how underwhelming. Nevermind the complete dearth of clothing in Home resulting in everyone dressing identically.... and what are the chances this will follow the Santa model where we have to pay £1.59 or whatever it was per item?

For those who didn't yet know:

ation-home/

This means that, in the last week alone, we've announced spaces, items, and other themed-content for Warhawk, SOCOM, Resistance, Street Fighter IV, and Resident Evil 5. These areas boast everything from unlockables to game launching capabilities to exclusive minigames to special virtual items (don't forget about the EA Complex either).

We've also announced a new public space in Home, the Gamer's Lounge (named by Home resident lowridertk84). And an event to coincide with its launch, the I Love Ninjas event (scheduled for Friday the 13th, at 6pm PT/9pm EST).

Additionally, we've announced that Picture Frames are, indeed, coming, along with that 10-screen Theater everyone has been asking for, new apartments and private spaces, new music in Listen@Home, and new VIs.

On top of that, the devs have released a pretty significant update - 1.10 - which has made Home more safe and secure (your items are not disappearing anymore). And its running faster and smoother than ever.

Again, we apologize for the lag in content and updates in the past month. It was a bummer to have that downtime. However, those days are behind us. Now the real fun begins!

Am I the only one who noticed the part where if you pay for Ninja Outfits and fill a certain space in Home up with users, everyone gets Warhawk and SOCOM: Confrontation for free?

Am I reading that wrong?

Or dress in all black using free clothes, it seems.

I'd like clarification as well.

Do they offer all black [free] clothing?

I figured they'd have it so you almost have to buy "something" to be eligible.

If what it looks like is really true...they're gonna make a killing. :lol

Home Rewards in PSP games? Isn't that a bit of a news story? It's not trophies, but for some people, it's even better.

More reason for SE to sign up to HOME!
i'd buy everything they have on it :X

Which is bizarre considering SE is working with Sony on LBP content.

Sony needs to implement some kind of ui into xmb on whats going on in Home (events and such), some have no idea like myself.
I suppose they could use the top right XMB ticker for that.

Why aren't you surprised? I definitely am.

Anyways, that list sounds good, and hopefully it extends to companies beyond gaming, which I think is very important.

For example, I really think the NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB should look at having a presence there. In order to promote the sport, and their teams. I'm sure people will gladly fork over $1.99 for their favourite sports jerseys.

Yeah, about that...

You'd think Japan loved ps1/ps2 + japan loves square-enix would equal ps3 support.. but apparently not. They can continue sending games to die on the 360, or giving the wii lack luster support...

I think They will have a contest but in order for you to participate, you need to wear ninja outfit or black clothes. I highly doubt, they will give Socom/Warhawk for free to everyone for wearing ninja clothes. Maybe they'll have a chess tournament within that Gamer's Lounge or something against Home mods.

Kagari said:

Yeah, about that...

How about Genki? Q Entertainment? These guys don't have many PS3 games out...and are much smaller than Square.

So I'm definitely surprised the Square-Enix, being the bigger company and with more PS3 titles, not having a presence. If I were Sony I'd see what's up.

Yea, but look!

It doesn't say anything about a contest-based thing. It just says the FIRST instance of 'the Gamer's Lounge' filled UP with ninja costume wearing people that they SEE will win vouchers. I mean...it still doesn't look easy, because it'll be kind of difficult to assemble that many people who HAVE premium DLC in one place at one time.

IDK...it all seems weird to me :lol

well, If I hope that hey dont sell each part of the ninja outfit separately ala Santa. that would suck. I have 2 bucks sitting on my account and would use it for that nija outfit to get free SC/WH even though I already own the disk versions. We'll see what happens.

Yea, that'd suck. But the giving-away-of-vouchers is only done on Feb 13th (one day after the ninja-outfit's are released)

Talked to a guy on PS Forums. Apparently the server with the most nijas in them will will both PSN game vouchers!(thought only one) Pretty sick. And you dont need to buy the ninja outfit. Just dress all in black clothes and look like a HOBO which i did. All I did was wear black hat, black tshirt/black pants/black shoes along with black eye glasses and a big grey hobo beard to remain incognito.

No such luck man. 49 cents for hat, 49 cents for shirt, etc. Maybe there are only 4 items for the outfit.

has Home gotten any better? or is it still a lame ass ball of potential energy and dancing?

I've only been able to log in once since it went open beta and it seemed like a complete waste of time for everyone involved. It really misses the mark.

It seems that the interest in Home has already peaked. I wonder when Sony will feel the pressure to start shaving off Home resources as the interest wanes.

From what I understand it's already a very very small team that develops Home (which explains why everything takes so long to implement), if Sony shaved any more off there'd be nothing left.

Casuals love it I suppose. To us its just barren and dull atm. Though im looking forward the Ninja day thing.

I thought that, but the HOME forums are up like crazy. People are salivating for content updates and new items. There are a few people that have bought everything (over 80 bucks) in the mall.

It looks like HOME is actually doing quite fine. According to one of the community managers the team started out really small, but has actually gotten bigger since the Beta ended. I can't find the exact post, but it was something along the lines of 'The team has grown a lot since the beta, so content is going to be coming in more frequently, and at more regular intervals' or something to that notion. Sorry gamers, Home is here to stay.

I hope they'll start letting you go from space to space without losing your game launching, as it is right now if I go from the Central Plaza to the Mall while looking for Warhawk players, I'll lose that instance and any players in them and have to start the launch again...:/

Black shirt and shoes but no pants or shorts, and yeah all people in the 1st instance that are either in all black/Ninjas will get Warhawk AND SOCOM for free.

The Gamer's Lounge is up, and boring as fuck.

Yep, they could at least have some chill music there and a couple of videos or whatever. It's probably the worst Home space right now, even worse than Far Cry 2, and that's not an easy feat.

The gamer's lounge is a sterile Kubrickian set. Creepy lack of any music or ambient noise. I walked in just to check it out, and got ganged up on by a bunch of snowmen-headed Ninjas who demanded I leave so as not to ruin their voucher chances.

I think I hate Home.

Sony was/is definitely on a Home-development hiring spree judging from their recent postings.
