PS3 Home Official Thread

Are there still the same 5 items you can choose to customize your space with?

This was one of the cooler features I thought Home would provide, but it turns out all I have are the stupid white cube, one sofa, one lamp, and a table.

Honestly? How hard is it to add a few more objects? This software has been out for so long...
There's like five dozen new furniture items in the mall. Course, you have to pay for them, but there are some freebies in there somewhere.

5 dozen? Theres a couple of hundred easily. The apartment furniture packs have 5-10 items each and theres at least a couple of dozen packs.

Theres probably been close to 100 pieces of freebies along the way too between games, one time events, in home minigames, promotions and just straight up giveaways.

Heres a thread that keeps track of what's free at any given time.

Does not compute.

There's loads of things in the mall. More than I could ever want to buy. It's just poorly organized and browsing is kind of cumbersome. It's funny how the Home stuff store has been completely empty since launch. :P

What bugs me is that the EU home still has the same old boring home square (and other central spaces too) while the US/JP ones have gone through several iterations and actually has some interesting stuff.

They kinda dropped the ball with Sodium one aswell. Great premise but the lack of support/content killed it for me pretty quickly. The Salt Shooter game was great fun but 50 levels could only last for so long.

I still log onto home semi-regularly to check out the new content and there's always people everywhere. The ones that are die-hard Home fans deserve better I guess. It's a cool platform that would be worth bringing over to ps4 or whatever if they just made it more user-friendly and did a better job of integrating it into the psn and the xmb.

As it is now, just logging in feels like a damn chore and that alone drives off a lot of people from content and games that are otherwise pretty nice.

Mall Madness Hits PlayStation Home with Hundreds of Items on Sale + New UNCHARTED, SOCOM, and Warhawk Costumes!

One thing I can tell you is that the start up process has been streamlined by removing some of those "press X to continue". It basically goes from the black loading screen with white PlayStation Home logo to the "message of the day" screen without asking to press anything. This minor tweak alone is a godsend :lol
I reach the News of the Day screen 19 seconds after having clicked the Home icon now (and without having to do anything). I haven't timed it prior but that's a pretty significant time reduction I believe.

Nice. Guys make sure you log in early to see if you can loot free items due to glitches in the update.

I think it was last week, ALL the furniture(cept a few things) from the ghosbusters and director personal spaces were free. Im talking like 30 things. After a few hours they were fixed and were $.49 each I think. So 30x(.45) = ~$14 worth of free stuff. I was gonna post it but it was too late as I thought it wasnt a glitch. lol

They need to add more hairstyles. Ones that you can buy and change the color of. There just isn't enough to choose from.

Cant you just change the hair color of any hairstyle? Do you mean highlights and color streaks? I have seen that request a number of times on the official forum.

Also, TTP, anything else you can tell us?

And to whomever may be interested, theres about a 8 or so free decorations/furniture on the store right now until later today and the new update, they are all in Loot under new items I think.

Highlights, color streaks, and styles. The base hairstyles are pretty hideous. It's the ones that you buy from the video game characters that are cool, but some of those you can't change the color of. That sucks more.

So yesterday I found this option for "Tokens" in Home. Is it in any way related to the token system we heard about (rumored) a few months back?

FYI if you were in the Closed beta from 2007, you can log into the new Beta thats going on today. Well for todays Event.

Link

So just go through your download history and re-download the original closed beta? I was in the original closed beta and will check out V2.

Edit: to clarify since there were a few closed betas, if you're download is from 2007 it will work but if your download is from 2008 it will not work.

I wonder if the speed increase will be considerble? I'd really like to see the Clubhouse get more features though, feels useless as of now.

Will boot up to see what the speed increases are like!

Surprised they are releasing this so soon after the beta ended few days ago.

I wasn't able to test it despite having the beta client but reactions on the beta forums are very positive. For starters, the whole start up sequence has been streamlined so you get straight to the message of the day upon launching the application (no "Press X to Continue" splashscreens). The Navigator sounds like the second coming of Jesus and migration between spaces appears to be much faster.

Looking forward to try it out tomorrow.

Also, the Navigator is the first thing you greet after News of the day.
No need to revisit the last space you toured before going where you really want to.

Wow, I can't believe it took them this long, but finally an easy way to see where your friends are in Home and to jump to them.

The friends tab also have face-profiles of that particular friend (above the locale image that person is in).

Maybe soon enough we will be able to USE OUR HOME AVATARS AS PSN AVATAR. >:O

Cant believe Sony is actually still developing this thing...

Well, I'm not surprised one bit to be honest. Every time I jump in Home it's full of people, most of them wearing purchasable stuff. Despite all the hate it gets, it's far from a failure from Sony's perspective.

bro, you dont need to like Home but is it necessary to come to this thread and tell everyone you cant stand Home every time this threads bump? If you do not like home then please just avoid this thread and contribute somewhere else. Thank you.

1.35 Patch Notes

Global changes

New features

* Home Navigator
o The Home Navigator is a new feature that replaces the World Map.
o The first thing you will see on the Navigator is a message of the day.
o The main interface of the Home Navigator has a variety of categories containing all of the different spaces you can visit and methods for getting there.
o Featured spaces
+ This is a regularly changing selection of new and exciting spaces for you to check out.
o Home spaces
+ All of the well known core Home spaces.
o Personal spaces
+ All of the Personal Spaces that you currently own and the Clubs that you belong to.
o Favourites
+ An area to view and manage your favourite spaces.
+ In any other area of the Navigator pressing [SQUARE] adds the currently selected space to your favourites.
+ There is a maximum limit of 20 favourites.
o Friends
+ A list of your friends who are currently in Home, and where they are located.
# This also includes a head shot picture of what their avatar looks like so you can easily recognise them.
+ If they are in a public space you can go to them.
+ If they are in their own Personal Space you can “knock on the door” and ask to come in.
o Explore
+ The place to browse all of the spaces in Home much like the original World Map
+ One thing to remember: when using the Navigator, you can press [SQUARE] to add the space you currently have selected as one of your favourites. When are you inside the Favourites category, however, pressing [SQUARE] will remove the selected space from your favourites list.

* Front end
o The way you log on to Home through the front end has been changed.
o Once Home has been launched from the XMB there is no need to press any more buttons to log on.
+ The HDD warning message is displayed but no longer requires a button press to confirm.
+ There is no longer a screen requiring a button press to “log on”. Connection to the PSN happens automatically.
+ If this is the first time you have logged on to Home then you will still have to initially accept the terms of service.
o Once Home is running you are taken directly to the Home Navigator without loading into any other space first.
o From the Home Navigator you can choose exactly where you want to go.
o A lot of the network communication and validation now happens in the background while you are using the Navigator.

Improvements

* The time it takes to log on has been improved quite a lot.
* Relocating between spaces has had many improvements and is a lot quicker.
* There is a new section for “Rewards” on the Menu Pad that contains all of the rewards you have been granted in Home.
* We have made several improvements to the loading bar.
* We have increased the frequency of updates about where someone is in Home so that “invite” and “go to” should be more accurate now.
* Targeting in general has been improved so it should be easier to target various objects of interest to you.
* Furniture
o If you place a new item of furniture into a Personal Space with a lot of other furniture already in place it won’t collide with anything until it is in the clear.
+ This will make it easier to add furniture to intricate furniture layouts without knocking anything over.
+ It should also help when placing large items of furniture in your Personal Space.
o Reduced the wobble that items of furniture could experience when being placed close together.
o Generally tweaked the physics on furniture items to make them react to each other in a less violent way.

Changes

* The position in the world that you listen to sounds from has been changed and should now consistently be the avatar rather than the camera.
* It is no longer possible to sit down while playing the standing up animation. You must wait for your avatar to completely stand up first.
* It is once again possible to enter a store while playing a mini-game.
* If a portable object that takes over the camera is activated while viewing a poster in full screen mode you stop viewing the poster.
* The inventory section of the Menu Pad is no longer available while sitting down to avoid problems with certain portables being activated in that situation.
* Some of the pop-up colours have been changed slightly to improve legibility in all of the different places they are used. In addition “Yellow” has been replaced with a “Fiery Orange.”
* Changed the phrasing of the legend on the furniture removal menu to make it less ambiguous.

Bug fixes

* Fixed a bug that would let you join a mini-game while a portable item was out.
* Fixed a bug that would allow you to interact with a portable item while inside the wardrobe.
* Fixed a bug that in some circumstances could stop the sound settings from being saved after you change them.
* Fixed a bug that could cause problems while launching Home if your HDD was completely full.
* Fixed a bug that could cause the furniture in a Clubhouse to vanish for some people when the club leader entered.
* Fixed a bug that could occur when previewing male or female clothes in a store without having set up a male or female avatar.
* Fixed a bug that could cause the download queue to stall when attempting to download certain scenes.
* Fixed a bug that would allow PSN notification messages to be captured in pictures when using the camera.
* Fixed a bug that was causing pictures taken with the camera on standard definition televisions to be the wrong aspect ratio.
* Fixed a bug that would cause a crash when relocating via the Home Safe Screen with a portable item out while in the wardrobe.
* Fixed a bug in the store that would cause the “Add to basket” button to become permanently unavailable if you pressed Cancel before the item fully loaded.
* Fixed a bug that was allowing people to join multiple queues at the same time.
* Fixed a bug that would cause the Menu Pad of one person to become unavailable if two people attempted to sit on the same seat at the same time.
* Fixed a bug that could cause a crash when lots of items of furniture are colliding with one another.
* Fixed a bug that could cause a crash when loading items in a space.
* Fixed various bugs within the Pool and Bowling mini-games.

Those are EXACTLY the changes that they needed to make. The only big problem is that I don't see any improvements to the avatar loading. When you enter a new area it takes forever for other people's avatars to load up.

I dont see why they dont cache every single object which is loaded once on your HDD if you have choose 12GB for home for example. That way every user should be a small XML file which tells the system to load the right objects. If the object is not cached yet, download it from the internet, if it is already on the HDD, just show it. They do the same with the Spaces, why not with the avatars?
