PS3 Home Official Thread

I can't find any. It sucks because my biggest complaint about Home is that 90% of the time there is no instructions on how to do anything. Especially those mini-games scattered about. Another example is when you buy a personal space. It doesn't tell you how many picture frames you can hang up and each space is different. A few don't let you hang any! I eventually found a thread on the Playstation Forums were people were trying to collect this kind of information. A wiki or FAQ would be a good idea but I can't find one.

Everybody should get the paperbag head (Under the Tester category), it's awesome~:lol

Nice statue. Where did that come from?

That'd be another good thing for a Home Wiki... a collection of all items.

well, there already are such lists, for example:

EU:
List of free Home items in the Shopping Mall
Lists of PS3/PSN game rewards, Home Space rewards and Event rewards

US:
List of free Home items in the Shopping Mall
Lists of PS3/PSN game rewards, Home Space rewards and Event rewards

+ lists of all available ($$) items and lists of free mall stuff (no events etc.) for JP and HK

WKC stuff seems to come from the game/trophies, though it's only listed for US

Stepped inside Home for the first time in months, for some reason I had a bunch of Infamous clothing. The new interface is really nice and it's a lot easier to get around, I like it. Oh, and the framerate inside the EA Sports area (where the poker tables are) is fucking terrible.

Fixing the load times was a major step in getting me to use Home more. Also, the redesigned navigator is great. I made a video of my city penthouse apartment if you want to see it. The picture frames are the best item for truly customizing your space. Check it out! :D

Awesome video there. Also makes me wish that Europe had picture frames. But we aren't allow them, because obviously we are all intending to put up pictures of penises on our walls.

The new Home client is awesome. I love the much more streamlined load screens, and the quicker times. I already hop in there a fair bit, but will likely use it a bit more now.

One problem i have is with the new video buffering ways...My internet seems to want to buffer literally every 2 bloody seconds, which makes watching anything impossible.

Wow. Home people like Home apparently. And spend money too.

Yes, PlayStation Home is booming according to Buser's panel today at GDC 10. In June 2009, there were 6 million users; in December 2009, there were 10 million users; and now, that number has ballooned to 12 million. When a person pops into Home, they spend an average of an hour fooling around with the program, and 85 percent of people using Home are repeat users.

the platform's new push. Sodium One, Home's MMO/tank game, had 1.3 million "engagements" in its first six weeks of availability. Of those players kicking the tires on the free taste, 25 percent of them bought the full game.

Agreed. It's stupid it doesn't.

When is EU getting the damn picture frames anyway? If they were there, at least there would be SOME reason to have some friend over and chat, but as it is, coming into my barren seaside studio with white furniture and a Watchmen clock is just depressing...

I suspect some stupid legal crap (conflictual regional regulations) is stopping them from bringing picture frames to EU. I don't see any other reason. Heck, those frames where available in the early betas as well as in the recent 3.15 one.

I think for there to be picture frames in Europe there needs to be a new moderation system put in place where stuff uploaded can be reported, deleted and moderated immediately like Singstar and LittleBigPlanet. Until the implement these changes Europe won't get picture frames. The EU Home manager said it won't be for at least another 6 months and that was in January I think.

Here's what he replied to someone and me on the forums.

How does the EU Tools differ from the US and HK?

The SCEE tools are the same as the SCEA (etc) tools. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the EU has some of the strictest laws in the world. Many of these laws have an impact on what we need to do in order to be able to offer specific services. Unfortunately the existing tools have not been found to be adequate for our needs.

Thylaudax, I haven't read the rest of the thread but how come Singstar and LittleBigPlanet have similar features regarding to user uploads. How is it legally any different on them than it is on Home?

The difference is that for both Singstar and LBP there are custom-designed moderation tools that make it easy for our team here to handle any problematic uploads in a quick and efficient manner. We don't (yet) have those sorts of tools available in Home.

Exactly. Home is bringing additional $$ to sony. There is a "Golden Money Suit" that costs $15 bucks...no lie. This shit sold. Even if 1 person bought it, its a win for Sony. There was a pic of a group of friends who bought it, I think it was 6 ppls in the pic...6x$15=$90. $90 worth of virtual stuff sold on Home. Obviously this is just an example, Im sure a couple hundred bought it. That's insane. That's casual gamers.

So just like Home, I think PSMove will do the same. Some ppls still bitch about why resources are being allocated into these thing yet fail to see how much profit Sony is making and will make as time goes on. Mad props to Sony.

That's a great point, and somewhat ironic, since trophies were originally intended to be showcased within Home. Later, the (IMHO correct) decision was made to bind trophies to the basic PSN account on the XMB, instead of binding them to Home.

Instead of trophies, Home now has unlockable items like clothing, furniture, and other decorations. Some of these are given simultaneously with trophies in games outside of the Home environment (examples include Street Fighter IV and PixelJunk Shooter), but many of these are awarded for playing games or engaging in other activities (visiting a certain Home space, watching a video trailer, etc.) within Home. There are a few problems, though:

1. The original problem described above still exists, where your friends--or even you yourself--are only able to view the items while using the Home environment.

2. For unlockables that are awarded as clothing, your avatar can only wear a certain amount of clothing at once, and not multiples of the same item (such as shirts or hats). So, unless you change your avatar's clothes frequently, your friends might only see a very limited amount of what you've earned.

3. In order for your friends to view your Home unlockables, both you and your friend must be in the same space in Home simultaneously.

All of the above are contributing factors to the way trophies are done now. Imagine what comparing trophies would be like if (as in #3 above) your friend had to log on the same time as you and you had to invite him to view your trophy list. It would be an awful mess, not to mention socially awkward as well!

What Home needs is for its games to support trophies outside of Home. For example, if you play the games in Sodium One, you should be able to unlock standard PSN trophies, which your friends can view from the XMB just like any other trophies. The games should appear on the XMB not as "Home", but rather with their own names and icons. If a friend should see this and say to you, "I've never seen this 'Sodium One' game...where did you get it?", you can simply tell them that it's a game within Home. This would do wonders for promoting Home games outside of Home, particularly for avid trophy hunters who go out of their way to grind for trophies in other games, but avoid Home since none of its games count toward trophies.

Home is not only a pretty good income for sony. I predict the whole second life genre will become more and more popular, and come next generation, it will be a lesser standard, and Sony will be the undisputed leader in this stuff, thanks to the experience with Home.

I still think that they should have npc's in home that hand quests out to complete in games outside of home for extra trophies/content, I think that would be a pretty good incentive for more 'core' players to pop into home to collect 'trophie quests', not sure how doable this would be though on a technical level.

This would be awesome. I would be in Home all the time.

I've actually been thinking / writing down similar ideas. Basically it takes the idea of a user space and expands it to a purchaseable town that can be customized with businesses and NPCs to provide side quests.

The business would function similar to jobs in Fable 2, and users can sell their goods for game currency. Different users could place orders for specific types of armor, earning you more cash to expand your town. Each business has a "minigame" to craft goods, etc.

Side quest packs would be available through the PS store to provide NPCs that can assign you with specific side quests, etc.

There's a lot more I have ringing around, but I don't know how possible this is on a technical level, or if it's better suited for stand alone software.

Basically, I'd love to see something that combines an MMO and the social aspects of something akin to farmville, making users dependent on eachother for wares, etc.

Home is now really cool, I actually feel like I'm traveling to places now as oppose to 'loading' if that makes sense.

Move support will be fantastic (Bowling, and Pool come to mind).

I love LocoIsland and the form of currency you can earn between it and the public LocoRoco space... must get upgrades to my space (I haven't bought real money costing items yet, though, strictly working on the MuiMui stuff so far).

When HOME had the big content update recently... I shamefully spent... like... 30 dollars on things... I don't know what I was thinking.

At least the LocoRoco Personal Space and Sodium one have been paying off in spades.

The initial load time is still absolute shit, but once in the loads are lightning quick compared to before.

Right now though Home is a total mess when it comes to user interface consistency. Between the navigator (awesome addition btw), the menu pad thing, and other window types that present themselves they've turned it into a frankenstein UI. I suppose one could say this is a problem with the PS3 as a whole, since at the XMB level practically every bit of playstation software looks, feels, and acts differently.

Anyway superficial gripes aside, it's still weirdly addictive to wander around and get the free content, and explore all the madness that's there.

For all fans of Assassin’s Creed, this week sees the arrival in Home of the Abstergo Animus Labs. Can you discover all the hidden messages and escape the labs through the concealed entrance to the Assassin’s Hideout? Having been affected by the Bleeding Effect, you’ll have access to Eagle Vision to help you crack the codes and unlock the security systems.

These spaces are chock full of information about Assassin’s Creed, including concept artwork, databases on the locations and characters to be found in Assassin’s Creed II, Developer Diaries and more! Perhaps most exciting, however, is the Vendetta multiplayer mini game. Based on the tower defence genre, you’ll need to use a Hero in tandem with defensive structures and other buildings in a battle against other Home residents to defend your castle.

This week sees the launch of a huge update for the Audi Home Terminal including a fantastic new game – A1 Windows – and a first for Home, the introduction of the Audi presentations, with your very own virtual host, Ralf.
To celebrate the launch of the new Audi A1, Audi will release a new mini game in the Audi Home Terminal: the A1 Windows Game. Situated around the space are several new ‘viewer’ objects. Simply activate one of these objects to launch the aero-cam and travel through the city to play the game. Each window you visit contains a new level. Complete them all to win a new reward for your personal spaces!
The Audi presentations will talk in more detail about some of the innovative and progressive things that Audi do as a company. This first presentation starts with a rundown on the technology behind the all new electric Frankfurt-Showcar Audi e-tron. The presentations begin at 11:00, and run again at 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00 GMT (12:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 & 21:00 CET).
As promised when we launched the Audi Home Terminal, there’s more in the pipeline for the year ahead. Finally, if you want to know how the Audi space was conceived and put together, visit the gallery section of the Audi Home Terminal to watch the ‘making of’ video.
Still reading? Good, because we’re not done yet! There’s quite a range of new clothing, costumes and other items available this week as well…
Firstly, four of the highly anticipated Tekken 6 costumes arrive tomorrow. For male avatars there’s Kazuya and Lars. Both are available as full costume bundles or individual items. For our female community we’ve got Asuka and Alisa; again available as bundles or individual pieces. Kazuya is free, while the others are priced at 2.99 €/£2.39 for the full costume bundles.
If Katamari Damacy is more to your tastes, there’s a treat in store this week. Available as a bundle or individual parts is the unique Katamari Damacy Prince costume. Additionally there’s a range of t-shirts for both men and women – including a shirt and bag combo – as well as rainbow headphones.
Finally, tomorrow we say farewell to the White Knight Chronicles event. Tonight is your last chance to visit the space before it’s gone for good!

Us eurotrash finally got the Siren space and it's definitely creepy as hell. Soundscape consists of Shibito panting/screaming/crying and the visuals in the space capture the feeling in Siren: Blood Curse pretty well.

Didn't get to do the hospital survival run thing yet though. Maybe we should get together and try to do it if people are interested.

Film grain and guys in rabbit suits, it's like Donnie Darko. :O

Its awesome in the EU home at present. I was just in the shopping centre and there were about 20ish people standing around (most wearing bunny suits) chatting, dancing and having a good time.

I myself was dressed as a Star Wars Empire general with bunny ears. Good times.
