PS3 Home Official Thread

I'm still waiting to hear exactly what works with game launching for Resistance 2, so when I find that out I'll make the rounds and let you guys know. Unless, of course, one of the nice Insomniac folks around here would like to swing by and beat me to the punch :lol

So the R2 space is available for EU and US regions?

As far as I understood it, you can launch into a Co-op or competitive game.

I'm more interested to see how many people can launch into a game at once.

Do you know if the game is instanced or not? Is it going to be like the Siren space? Or is just pressing X going to bring us into our own instance of the game?

If they would release a Blade Runner personal Home space (complete with BR soundtrack & sound effects) I would never leave.

I love that place. Vangelis - Blade Runner Blues plays in the background. Epic.

Hey, buy it and play CoOp (So awesome)

Okay, got the answers I was looking for.

Good news, everyone! Resistance 2 game launching for up to 30 players in unranked matches!

But you can't select which mode you wish to play directly from Home. So if you want to launch into co-op, just limit the join rate to 8 players. From there you're whisked away to the lobby where you decide what you wish to play.

Also: Home goes down for updates at 2AM PST, Thursday mornings and is scheduled to return at 6AM PST.

I think it's bullshit to not allow for region hopping. Sure there are things like EU and JP gets a shitload of free items that we have to pay (like $2 Diesel shirts), but we should still be allowed to freely jump from one community to another.

In order to prevent breaking copywright laws, you can even make it so that items gotten in one region cannot be carried over when you're in another region, so for example I cannot use my free Diesel shirt from EU Home when I'm in the US Home (unless I paid for it in the US Home). I don't care I just want to region hop. That should be a bonus for people that solve the Xi puzzle.

Hey folks, here are the patch notes for Home 1.21, coming out tomorrow (5/21). These vary a little bit from the notes posted earlier in the week, but don't worry, nothing particularly mind blowing has changed :)

Patch Notes Global Changes

Improvements

* The chat log has been updated with a number of new enhancements:
* By clicking the left stick you can toggle the chat log between three modes: normal, expanded and minimised.
* It is also possible to switch the chat log directly into expanded mode by pressing up or down on the controller d-pad.
* While minimised the chat log is reduced to a small icon in the corner of the screen. This icon will still fade in and out to indicate whether new chat is being received.
* While expanded you can scroll through individual lines of text in the chat log. By pressing [CROSS] with a line highlighted they are able to open an options menu for the user who spoke.
* Lines of text are coloured in the chat log to reflect the colour choice of the user who typed them.
* Your friends will now have an icon placed beside their ID in the chat log

* Emotes are now available when text communication has been disabled.
* It is possible to target things while sat on the floor.
* The process of moving between spaces has been streamlined which should make relocating a bit faster.
* The loading time for smaller images, such as thumbnails, posters and map chips, has been reduced.
* Before entering a space or playing a mini game, you will now see content descriptor icons alongside the age rating icons, where this information has been specified.
* The interface for displaying age rating and content descriptor information has been unified so that it will look the same regardless of the context it is shown in.

Changes

* We have reduced loading times when using the virtual stores to browse and purchase items.
* We have changed the way furniture is saved in a Club house so that it is saved immediately if a save hasn’t happened in a while. This should stop furniture going missing if the player placing the furniture exits Home immediately after changing the layout.
* When you log in to Home, if there is a problem retrieving your commerce information then you will be returned to the welcome screen with an error message.
* When you attempt to telephone a friend that has voice chat disabled you will now see the warning in an alert message instead of a pop-up.
* If you choose not to download an update patch for Home and then attempt to log on you will be returned to the welcome screen with an appropriate error message.
* Japanese Age Rating textures have been changed.
* We’ve swapped the dark grey and dark blue pop-up colours for magenta and turquoise to make text easier to read in the chat log.
* Club ownership is now indicated by a crown icon instead of a star.
* We’ve slowed down the speed at which you can rotate furniture.

Bug fixes

* Fixed a bug that was causing text chat to disappear from the chat log when relocating between spaces.
* Fixed a bug that could cause items of furniture placed in the Club house to go missing (this is separate from the change to make saving the layout more robust).
* Fixed a problem that could cause Home rewards to be lost after a network error.
* Fixed a bug that would cause a crash when the user is signed out of the PSN while logging on to Home.
* Fixed a bug that would send users to the wrong place if they accepted an invitation to a Personal Space just as its owner relocated elsewhere.
* The option to make cross regional telephone calls from public spaces is no longer greyed out.
* Fixed a bug where spawning inside the trigger radius of certain mini-games would result in the user automatically joining them.
* Resolved a problem with lots of extra line breaks in Japanese help text.
* Fixed a bug that would result in a “typing” chat bubble being displayed permanently if the user muted someone while they were typing.
* Changed Game Launching error messages so that line breaks show up correctly in them now.
* Fixed a bug that would cause alert messages to remain on screen after being disconnected.
* Fixed a bug that could cause a crash if the user was disconnected while making a purchase in Home.
* The furniture placement camera will now respect the control inversion settings specified in the Menu Pad.
* Fixed a bug that would cause certain parts of some animations to “stick” if the character stood up while playing them (for example if the user stood up while yawning, their mouth would be stuck open).
* Fixed a bug that would allow the character to run or slide while performing spot idle animations.

I'll also have something fun and Street Fighter related to share with you guys tomorrow and I'm not just talking the new costumes :)

SF4 Home space coming next week with SF2 Arcade machine mini games.

Amirite?

Home is back up, as is the update.

It does this pre-caching essential items at boot up which takes forever though.

World map still loads kinda slow.

There is a new HOME space though, 'Presentation Podium'.

Waiting for the R2 space to DL to see if it's instanced or not.

Just me or is their a slight improvement to the boot-up time?

After the first boot-up after updating it was the same as usually (about 80 seconds), but the second time, it was a bit less (65 seconds).

Does that new 'precaching essential items' thingy (which happened the first time after update, but not the second) speed up loading?

Still needs improvement of course..

Hmm..presentation podium is for E3 perhaps? Jumbo screen?

I had a look around and it's strangely architected..there are two doors there too that are locked. Maybe they'll open at E3? One seems to have weird roman or greek-ish architecture behind it...

Hmm. There are actually three locked doors in the presentation space..

One is a big thick wooden door with greco-roman style architecture around it (dare I think, God of War?). Another is like an iron gate in a completely different style. And then there's a third which is a big thick metal gate with a red light over it (think military style).

If I had to guess, I'd think this is where E3 stuff will be going down in Home.

No voice chat then.... <_<

So does R2's game launching work now?

And wtf are commerce points? Is this the new Home currency system?

Definitely thinking that last one is GoW..(you can see columns and stuff around it and in the background too).

I'm tired of being so cautious. I'm stopping myself from thinking "geez, E3 in Home!" but secretly I'm expecting to be "there" myself early in June. : )

I've had 3 lock ups in HOME and they've all been in the EA space. Like eleven billion pics and videos load so you just have to load the space and wait for like five minutes.

Don't be to sure about those doors meaning games. In the closed beta that wooden door was there too, yet It never opened.
Mr. Jared any optimizations to the Presentation space since closed beta times?

edit:
HERE IS THE SHIRT CODE FOR EU USERS: XHFG-FRBM-8G24
At least thats what I found on the playstation boards

I can't find that promo code for the life of me.. (probably too late now anyway :p)

Is it only in the Euro version?
No idea if it's gone now, but here's what it looked like, all the way at the back of the new space...

Nope, only in private spaces.

Yep.

Those were dev notes. It means they have different ways to create stores. Boring stuff :)

Where is the USA code???

We're not running that promotion in US Home. Sorry!

Edit: Haha, yes, but I forgot to mention that the shirt is already available in the stores. Good calls.

Btw, I believe the new PULSE in the mall just spoiled the only PSX game we are getting this week. It looks like Tom Clancy Rainbow Six game.

Hey... you guys should open a HOME game spaces development studio here on Argentina... 1 Dollar = 3.50 pesos.
And yeah, i can be the director :lol

Are you kidding me? RBS? well not like I care but this crappy game over MGS? :lol

Also NA Home users, dont worry about the so called 'exclusive' UK Tshirt, its in the mall for free, for everyone. :D

Wow, again in the world of DLC limited editions don't mean much. You either all get it for free or we can all pay to get it. Doesn't make the user feel so special. :(

It's Insomniac's way of saying "HAHA" to Europe/UK for making such a big deal out of the the cathedral in RFoM.
