PS3 Home Official Thread

Got my free motorstorm jeans and went to the podium event. There's a Home logo looping, some GamesCom flags and an awesome vase which spits out ps face button controller icons :D. Couldn't look any further cause it froze all of a sudden :(.
It's not my PS3's fault then.

Never got that pants and I cant access the Presentation Podium. It wont show on the world map.

Yeah, I think US Home is excluded from the pants. Lame.

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised at Home success. I logged into it like two months ago (thought I'd give it another chance) and although I enjoyed marginally more than the last time, it still felt "stale" to me. I guess I'm not their target market, or maybe I haven't spent enough time. That said, I really am surprised Home is as successful as it is. To be quite frank, I do not see what people find enjoyable about it (maybe it is because I'm no longer into the whole Habbo Hotel/2nd Life thing) but for some reason, Sony has found a market for the thing. And with an average time spent online of 56mins (seriously, what do you do for an hour on Home!?), Sony is definitely doing something right.

You know what would be awesome? If they added either photo booths or the ability to take screen grabs while in Home. For now, I'm stuck using my iphone to take pictures of my avatar.

WTF... my content has vanished...

So one night i was a bit drunk and bought the city apartment...

Yesterday i discovered it has vanished from my locations list... it's also not in the spaces store anymore.... so i can;t redownload it... and home content does not appear in the PS Store download history.

So not only did i waste £3.99 on a whim... but i can no longer access something i paid for... with not so much as an email explaining why it;s not in the store anymore... i mean... they fucking know my email address, if there was a problem with something purchased how hard can it be to pull off a list of the people that own it and fire off an explanation?

WTF Sony... you certainly taught me not to buy anything in home again

The PSN monkey has raped me and i feel i will never be clean.

they actually showed off a camera item long time ago you could pose in front and take pictures with

seeing as they took their sweet ass time with picture frame
i doubt we'll be seeing this anytime soon

animated shirts/furnitures are cool and all but i want more usable item
can't believe it's still just the bubble machine XD

If I remember correctly there was a problem with that apartment which meant they had to remove it, they are going to be giving refunds though, according from a mod on the official EU forums.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic actually. I was always thinking about that game in the central hub, with the flying saucers, if you got a really high score or reached a certain score it would give you a saucer and a launch pad in your inventory. Would be cool to be able to fly it all around the central hub for example, almost like a debug camera.

Too bad things like that will never happen... Home had so much potential, they came up real short on many basic things. It's still an alright experience for many, but it's missing a lot. Could have been sooo much more than what it is now.

Free Realms and Home should just merge into something that takes from both. If I could kill shit and level up in Home I'd do it for no important reason, but I would.

Of course things like that will happen. No reason why not.

It's been 3 years and there are still some things that haven't even happen when they were expected/assumed to 'eventually'.. :(

Yeah, really. The interactive personal inventory is a joke. A bubble machine is the only thing there and it's been there alone for two years! What a waste of a store in the mall lol

Come to think of it, something very similar to what you described already exists. In the Ghostbusters firehouse apartment you can fly around as Slimer and remotely control him.

You say 3 years. Home was revealed on GDC 07. Does it lack certain features that were demo'ed 2 years ago? Yes, unfortunately they're slow on letting users share music & video and the trophy room still hasn't arrived but there are tons of other content that are here now that were not presented.

You're writting off the system far too early. It launched at the end of last year and already it has changed a lot. These social worlds always evolve.

I see where you're coming from, but my point is things like that are so limited, it's unfortunate.

I say 3 years because I was beta testing Home back early 07, and it honestly was an awesome experience, but so much never came to fruition. It has a ton of potential but it was approached in such a way where progress was not only limited but also non-focused, they need to get the basics right before adding onto whatever frame you may have.

That's not to say it hasn't improved since the first beta I tried, i've said this before but i'll say it again, if you compared the first year of versions of Home to what we have now, it would be like a sequel leap, from technical aspects to functionality. But that doesn't change the fact the core is still missing some things, fundamental things.

Don't get me wrong, im not writing off anything, not even close. Just saying that more needs to be done, and I don't mean additional game spaces and whatnot, I mean core things at the basic frame level.

Home is great, but it could have been (and can be) amazing.

Ok I agree. It's very frustrating. How they haven't allowed media sharing after all these years in the apartment is mind boggling. I think everything promised will come, it's just going to take a while for some reason.

I'm really hoping Sony mention Home at Gamescom. Since Home's release Sony have really not said much about it and it's making me think it just doesn't factor into PS3's grand scheme anymore.

I'm actually surprised they've put Home in the spotlight at all recently. Given that most of the main gaming press has completely written it off I was amazed to see a Home montage in this year's E3 presentation. They also always have it playable in the Sony booth. What they haven't done sadly is any big announcemts during these events.

Agreed, and yes, the media sharing aspects was some of the most intriguing aspects about the entire project, however I don't really blame it on them as im sure there are some pretty thick walls in that area (copy right issues). Even in the beta, when they released picture frames there was a lot of issues, and eventually got removed.. various devs in home also said (on multiple occasions) that it was a mater of copy right issues not technical limitations. Sucks, but what can ya do. :\

It'll definitely be at GC, one way or another.

After making you pay for the picture sharing/frames (and only available in the US-region at the moment because of SCEE executives), I don't have much faith for the music&video sharing. They will just sell virtual CD-Player and HDTV for 3-5$.

Home should give me more/better features than XMB to have interest in using it and they should be free (same with the clubhouses btw., could be easily used for your clan etc.).
I know it is not the same but i.e. try the XMB video&voice chat with your friends (up to 6 people IIRC), you can easily blend in any picture of your HDD (and for free, too...).

The idea of Home is great, the presentation is just all wrong. The many comments on this thread prove it. It's too stale, feels unsocial, distant from the PS3 itself. I wanna like it....

Or simply display ur trophy level as your avatar's level
just seems so natural

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/08/19/playstation-home-v1-3-coming-this-september/

As announced at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, PlayStation Home’s core client will be getting a serious upgrade this fall. And when we say serious, dear readers, we’re talking excessive and impressive in quality, extent, and degree. This is the for real deal upgrade!

I got three words to start us off: Universal. Game. Launching. That’s right – you can now launch into any PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter IV, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar’s head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in. Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of your favorite games with ease. Never again will you have to sign out of Home to play with (or against) your friends. Simply insert the disc of your choice while in Home and follow the on screen directions and you’ll be good to go.

Shop-a-holics will be stoked to see that an in-store item previewing option will be rolled out. This feature will allow you to preview items of clothing on your character in 3D (including the ability to check out multiple items simultaneously to see what combinations best suit your taste). You’ll be able to preview all furniture in 3D as well, complete with zoom and rotate options so you can check your potential purchases from all angles, right down to the nitty gritty. We’ll also offer you the ability to rent certain items and purchase “consumables” (limited use items) when available – such as the new Shrink Potion that lets you shrink your avatar to a tiny size. All in all, we think you’ll find that these new features allow for greater control over the use of your personal items. We’ve even added a new section to the Menu Pad under Personal > My Purchases to help you keep it all organized.

Home Shrink Potion

PlayStation Home v1.3 will also see additional portable objects (like the Bubble Machine) made available to the community. To start, we’ll be giving everyone free cameras that you can use to snap pictures from either a 1st or 3rd person view. These photos will automatically be saved to the Photo section of the XMB, from which you can then upload to the picture frames you have hanging in your personal spaces. We’ll be announcing more portable objects very soon, so be sure to check in on this blog often to stay abreast of the latest PlayStation Home item releases. Or just use the Latest Updates tab in your Menu Pad > Community. We here over at the PlayStation Home Community team keep an updated list of all new content releases in this area.

Home Camera

On the subject of portable objects, rest assured that we’ve listened to your suggestions and made some changes to help you better customize your in-world experience. You’ll be able to manually hide any portable object that you encounter, and objects placed by anyone on your Ignore or Block list will also be hidden. We think you all will find that accessing certain mini-games and watching videos will be much easier thanks to these additional options.

There are tons of little updates that you’ll notice when PlayStation Home v1.3 launches. To start, you’ll see that your avatar has additional emotes – including two new action emotes (you can flip a coin with your friends or play the old “pick a number between 1 and 100” game). You will also be able to pose your avatar in a variety of ways (photo op anyone?). We’ve also added some new categories of clothing (composite and outfits) that will allow you to customize your avatar with greater ease. In addition, we’ve optimized the targeting system, added a new queuing system, fixed quite a few pesky bugs, and are giving you the option to determine your cache size (you can choose from 3, 5, 8, and 12 GB) so as to make navigating Home a much smoother experience. As we get closer to launch, we’ll post complete patch notes for the v1.3 client on the PlayStation Home General forum at www.us.playstation.com. So if you haven’t yet signed up for our forums, please take a moment to do so now – and check in often for more details regarding what’s going on in PlayStation Home.

Last but certainly not least, we’ll be launching a SingStar space right around the time that PlayStation Home v1.3 hits your PlayStation 3s. This swanky night club-esque SingStar-themed game space is sure to be the hot new hub for all of you party goers. Whether you want to get down with your friends on the reactive dance floor, vote for your favorite music videos on the Video Jukebox, or test your knowledge at the SingStar Music Quiz, this space promises to have something for every SingStar fanatic.

See you all in Home!

Nice, sounds substantial. However I doubt the universal game launching will actually be useful.. I remember in the old beta all games could be launched, but it would simply be booting up a game and not actually jumping into a round or anything like that..

Yes, they say it takes you right to the start screen (if it doesn't fully support it) which is better than having to exit Home. Never knew why they didn't keep it in from the closed beta.

Other items such as queuing and targeting sounds interesting and I hope its what I think they are for.

It's still in beta :D

And how much longer will Europe have to wait for this earth-shattering update of everything we haven't been asking for?

On the same day (don't know about the items though, I would think they give us the camera too)
This is a Home-softwareupdate, these roll out for every region at the same time/day and are made by one developer team (in contrast to the content-teams of each region).

@Universal gamelaunching: It just saves you the *close home* *start game* *start home again after playing* process (if you are at home anyway ;) ).

will (re) install Home because Batman AA .

is there anything good in Home for SEGA fans ( any SEGA games related places ? ) how many free games are there ? also I have NTSC system but in PAL land , well this send me to EU Home or US home ?

you can flip a coin with your friends or play the old “pick a number between 1 and 100” game

HOLY FUCK, MEGATON. QUICK EVERYONE BACK TO HOME.

This really is Sony's abortion-gone-wrong. The idea of allowing Home to have a 12gb cache actually makes me taste bile it is so unappealing. Still no universal 3d Trophies/Room, looks like theyre giving up on ever forcing Home Party Launching as a requirement and just having some lame XMB skipping boot-up for games.

Wasn't Marvel vs Capcom 2 supposed to unlock some Home stuff as well? Who knows.

Actually all it saves you is *press PS button* *Scroll to game in the XMB* *Press the X button*, in-game XMB ftw. :D
