PS3 Home Official Thread

Oh hang on, my eyes must have glazed over when reading through:

We’ll also offer you the ability to rent certain items and purchase “consumables” (limited use items) when available – such as the new Shrink Potion that lets you shrink your avatar to a tiny size.

I propose an honesty system be instigated immediately. If you buy even one of these "rentable digital items", you must be named and shamed as being very specifically "part of the problem".

Great update! Hopefully 1.3 will also launch a lot faster (without as many "X" prompts). A queue system is definitely needed.

Glad that they are working hard on updating the system. Now if only they could put in video/audio sharing and the trophy room.

What do you mean?
Mini games like bowling or playing arcade games work like real life.
An infinite number of players can't play on top of each other. Ergo, people would have to rush the game as soon as someone left.

Now with 1.3 you can just join a proper queue system.

Activities that have a player limit or cap (like Siren's space) require users to wait in line, physically and manually, to gain access to the activity. And you're also competing with everyone else waiting in line trying to get in.

With a queue system, that disappears.

I wish they would match the Sim3 look alittle. Make graphics a little more casual.

Anyhow ppls dont really care about Home here but there are alot of hardcore(aka casuals) Home players out there that spend alot of hours there chatting or what not. This update will make alot of those ppls happy, specially the store item previews and camera to take pics. There are tons of ppls that regularly buy $20 PSN cards to buy clothes and shit so for those thinking this is a waste, think again.

Ohh, I thought they were gonna include a option to download all spaces once available. I hate popping into Home when I have a few minutes and have to sit there while the space I want to visit downloads.

wow, home keeps getting better and better. to all those that say its boring, go on with a couple of good friends and you'll have fun...hard to believe it's come so far since Dec 08

imagine what it'll be like even further down the road:D :D

Great changes, though I am still disappointed about there not being any radio/tv items yet. They are definitely moving home in the right direction though. Home team, keep up the good work

... my man.

It's crazy how popular Home is...I went there the other day and nearly every room was completely full of people.

Oh boo freaking hoo. *rollseyes*

I'm surprised that home has came so far from initial release. I go on now and am actually interested in whats going on and the little home rewards are a nice touch.

Home is looking awesome for sure, but I just wish the characters didn't look so darn stiff and robotic. I'd love to have better animations, framerate, and expressions. I would spend hours upon hours on home if this came to be.

Speaking of which, they need to get rid of the bubble machines. It's real fun standing in line when some joker runs up and puts a bubble machine right in front of whatever you're lining up for and fucks things up for everyone. And I don't think I've ever been in a line in Home where someone didn't do this. Screws up stuff like the Namco vending machines where multiple people can use one machine at the same time as well. And Siren needs a redesign. I've tried to play it a few times and can't figure what I'm supposed to do to start playing. And judging from some of the comments I've read in there neither can a lot of other people.

Hey Sony I got a great idea.

How about you include Home with every new PS3 Slim model/250GB model. That way everybody has it! Genius idea right?!

Forcing Home down peoples throat is a bad idea.

Sorry to post here.. but is PSN down right now..?

some guys in Denmark are having problems logging on to PSN.. anyone knows..?

Its optional, not everyone will like it. Thats why its great. The Icon is under network or whatever, eventually new users will try it.

Universal game luanch is a great addition.

Does this mean that we could jump into the same servers as our friends via home if we game launch together? That would be awesome.

That's one of the things they are addressing with this new update (1.3). New animations, new poses, less standing around like a zombie. Very good change IMO.

That's another thing they are addressing with the new update (1.3). You can manually hide any portable object that you encounter, and objects placed by anyone on your Ignore or Block list will also be hidden. Another very good change IMO.

With regards to Siren. Here's a good FAQ: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3home&message.id=586486

Stand at the counter and push x. If someone has put something in your way or there is a lot of people standing around use the dpad (I think it's the dpad) to cycle until you get the option you want.

Probably not, 'universal game launching' was already available prior to the more "public" beta opening. How it worked was simple, you select the game you want to play, and the next thing you see (after the timer etc) is the game boot-up as it would from the XMB. REAL game launching is of course when you set up a server, its setting etc, then launch into the title and have it meet you up with whomever had joined you launch.

I guess returning the feature might be a good thing for those who want to quit straight back into Home.

'Universal game launching', as in just booting from Home into another game, seems wholly redundant. In-game XMB gives you 'universal game launching' in every game already, including Home.

Not entirely redundant as it will boot straight back into Home when you quit the game, although I suppose you could just re select it via in-game XMB. It might be quicker though doing it through game launching.

Correct. Doing so from Home takes you right back to the space you were in and you don't have to go through the silly X prompts if you do it through the XMB.

Just tried Home again. Still can't see how someone would like to "spend time" there. Does anyone have that video with the somewhat manical Home marketing guy?

Looks like the Queue system may not be for queuing up for a game (like Siren) but for queuing up downloads for Home spaces.
You can already do that. You have a queue list in the bottom of your virtual tablet thingy.

Gotta say, been spending a lot of time in Home recently and I've grown quite fond of it. Met some cool people and good times were had. If any GAFFERs spend a lot of time in home, shoot me a friend a request(same as here), it'd be nice to hang out with other people instead of wandering from space to space(and playing lots of poker).

Did you not read the thread? The ability to ignore "griefers" that do that is coming in the 1.3 update (along with a queue).

I haven't been in home lately, but I have to say, the biggest problem with Home is that it just takes way too long to get in, and the load times are too long to go places. Also, being that I don't log in all that often, every time I do there's a massive update I need to download. I don't know, I feel I end up waiting around all the time. If the environment was more seamless, and was easy to pop into and out of quickly, it'd be a whole lot more interesting and useful. As it is, it's just a novel little thing that I can't seem to find much use for. Hopefully this is something they plan on building on, and hopefully it'll be something more seamless, robust, and interesting on PS4.

Even better, make the Slim boot straight into Home!

Patch 1.23 is out. Anyone know the details?

* Save data Validation
o Save data is now validated to check that it belongs to the PSN account which is currently logged on. If the save data is not valid then it cannot be loaded and you will be unable to use PlayStation Home. There are two options:
+ A – Delete the save data
+ B – Log on with PSN account the save data belongs to.

Purchases associated with a PSN account are unaffected by this change.
* Save data for personal spaces is now stored in individual files within the save folder on your XMB
o The name of the space that each save data file refers to can be found in the sub heading on that file’s information

from some weird site I found on N4G, but it's the only changelog available, I assume

I noticed all the icons for spaces now seem locally stored so they instantly pop up. The store icons (male/female, shirts, couches...) are still slow to load. Which is weird because they never change, so why download them every time?

Hope that cache feature fixes all that crap.

so I just installed a new HD and whenever I try to log into home, it says I have to install and need to free 3 GB of space. But when I try to do that it says you don't have enough space, please free up -180 GB. I have 180 GB of space left yet no matter how much I install it keeps giving me the error. I've installed around 30 GB to try to see if the problem would fix itself but it still hasn't, not even with the patches :/

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Do any of the people clamoring for a trophy room even use Home?

I just don't see why this should be that big of a priority considering that almost no one will ever see your trophy room, and devs aren't making any trophies. Your apartment(s) and avatar essentially act as your trophy rooms now anyway.

I'd prefer if they did what another poster mentioned earlier, and bring the trophy scores into HOME by displaying them next to your name.

I also want them to add reasons for people to go to someone else's clubhouses and apartments. Like, maybe joining a game session would bring you to that person's apartment or clubhouse.

The whole restrictions on friends is just stupid and defeats the whole purpose of this social environment.
