PS3 Home Official Thread

I think you're right the Trophy room just won't be as exciting as people think. TVs and radios are a must though. Plus they should bring back voice chat. It was really funny hearing people talk around home.

I really think the TVs and radios would skyrocket the attraction level for Home. As long as you could play anything on your hard drive with a bunch of people over.

Do any of the people clamoring for a trophy room even use Home?

I just don't see why this should be that big of a priority considering that almost no one will ever see your trophy room, and devs aren't making any trophies. Your apartment(s) and avatar essentially act as your trophy rooms now anyway.

I'd prefer if they did what another poster mentioned earlier, and bring the trophy scores into HOME by displaying them next to your name.

I also want them to add reasons for people to go to someone else's clubhouses and apartments. Like, maybe joining a game session would bring you to that person's apartment or clubhouse.

The whole restrictions on friends is just stupid and defeats the whole purpose of this social environment.
Good Points all around.

Personally, I am rooting for Home. It got way too much hate for a free service. I think it is a cool little project and I hope they keep on improving it. The downside is that no one ever gets to see the improvements because a lot of people have written off Home since that week it launched. I HATE when I hear podcasts and the guys talking are like "Home sucks, who the hell goes to Home?" and the one of them asks the other one when was the last time you were in Home, and they're like "The week it launched, lol."

Sony needs to keep on with the incremental improvements and when they feel that Home is where it should be, they need to do something(s) to get everybody to go back. Perhaps something with a a tangible reward such as a PSN game or Trophies. Or something that is just cool, like for Halloween Home can witness the Zombie Apocalypse. People are turning into Zombies and you are trying to survive until you turn into one.

for me the biggest and best new update is the caching. It will now load immidiatly from HDD :D I loved home from the ground and always loved to play the mini games. I hope they would allow us to have group chats and stuff. I mean i dont want to hear all the people but of I talk with a group of people i want to be able to.

Trohpy room would only be cool if they let you view your friends rooms, and apartments for that matter. It should be a little simple option to allow your friends to check out your personal space even if you're not there.

I'm not going to waste me time decorating my junk I collected all nice if the 3 people on my list that use Home, might be on, when I am.

oh crap , I have Amazon's Infamous Reaper costume code in my spam box ( thanks a lot ESET smart security 4 :/ )

who want it ?

Universal Game Launching and the Queue system are huge huge deals imo. Now they just need to get the 'stream content from your HDD' back on the table.

The problem with this is the apartment stuff (furniture arrangement, photos, musc & vids if they ever get that) is stored on the local PS3. You can't go to a person's apt if they aren't online.

Vehn, maybe try the Home forums on the playstation.com forums. It does sound a bit like the install bug that a few games have had, like Ratchet & Clank. For this you had to have an amount free that you could round to a certain number or something. Sometimes this meant you had to install and/or remove something. Maybe try deleting something and then try again, and if that doesn't work, see if you can find the instructions of what to do for the Ratchet & Clank bug, and if that doesn't help, again, try the Home forums.

They just need to make it easier to select what you're trying to focus your camera on. It's kind of a pain to have to press right up against a vending machine because you can't stop targeting the guy standing near it.

I wish I could work for Home and fix these things. It seems like they are really disconnected from logical thinking in a lot of ways.

If you don't have any luck with this, try rebuilding the system database.

1. Put the system in standby.
2. Hold the power button on the front of the console until the third beep. The system will return to standby mode.
3. Hold the power button again until the system beeps twice fast (beep-beep).
4. Connect a controller via USB and press the PS button
5. Select "Rebuild System Database" from the Recovery Menu.

It sounds to me like that's part of v1.3, but I might be wrong.

the trophy room will be useless now since there's really not many reasons to visit eachother's apartment

i really think they should display everyone's trophy level next to the names though

Sounds like SONY needs to take Home more serious and get good people on it(or pay them to do it fulltime), because that's an easy problem to solve.

You let people make temporary 'keys' to their homespace that includes all of the coordinate and item ID data.

Then you let them give these keys to whomever they want via HOME messages like a club invite/registration. If they send it to a friend who already has a key then HOME would talk to the XMB to replace the old data with the new one the next time they logged in. Otherwise, the player would get notified that they received a key.

Keys would last for a certain period of time before expiring; like renting a movie from the PSN. So, if you wanted to take your keys back, then you just update the room and/or don't send them a key after the expiration date.

Still: Homes are pointless since you can't do anything other than... uh... sit and dance (or play 1 to 100 after this new patch) in them?

Wake me when I can play Poker/Chess/Mankala/Bowling in my own Home with friends without a stupid queue crap. Oh, wait, people have been BEGGING for this for months now and nothing has turned out other than items to look at in your Home or free Tees.

Home needs to be more convenient... first of all - Home needs to have background / offline downloading.. so that you don't have to download parts of Home while you're in Home.

Secondly, I think that when you cut on your PS3 you should start off in home, and make your Home (living room) space act as the PS3 menu.

By implementing these two factors, you make home easier to use and access. Right now its just not very convenient. By making it more convenient you'll get more people to use it. you start off in the apartment, more of a chance that you will venture outside and interact with others .

Over 100 New Pieces of Content Releasing This Thursday in PlayStation Home

Attn: Killzone 2 fans. We’ve seen you in Central Plaza all decked out in your Helghan wares. We’ve seen you in the Bowling Alley showing your love for the ISA. We’ve heard you proudly boasting your Warzone rank in the Gamer’s Lounge. So we know that this Thursday, August 27th, you’ll be rushing into PlayStation Home to grab the new KZ2 content we’ll have waiting for you – specifically, the Killzone 2 Visari Throne Room.

This special personal space is based on the final stage of Killzone 2 in Scolar Visari’s Palace and is the absolute ideal gathering space for you and your KZ2-obsessed friends. Releasing in tandem with the Visari Throne Room will be a variety of virtual items that you can use to customize your area (including the Helghan Defense Painting – my personal fave). Check out the video below for a sneak peek of this space and other Killzone 2 items available in PlayStation Home.

We know that you guys and gals love collecting personal spaces, furniture, and gear for your avatar, which is why we’ve been working night and day to make this publish the biggest ever virtual items content release in PlayStation Home. In addition to the Killzone 2 Visari Throne Room, we’re also dropping an all-new, all-original personal space on you. The new Post-Apocalyptic Apartment is sure to appeal to your inner Road Warrior, and to celebrate its unveiling we’re offering a value bundle of furniture that runs the gamut from chairs to couches to tables to flooring to storage to assorted décor all at a special introductory price that just can’t be beat. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We have approximately 70 items total being released just for this personal space, so the customization options for this area alone are virtually endless.

But that’s not all. No siree. Come this Thursday, you’ll also be able to rep your favorite big cities with the release of some new animated t-shirts that broadcast your hometown pride. And are those animated glow sticks I see too? Watch the video down there and let me know that my mind ain’t playing tricks on me.

As always, this week is jam-packed with events – and we’re counting on seeing you at all of them. Head on over to the official Home Clubs and Events sub-forum at www.us.playstation.com for more details about our daily game launching parties…and a special celebrity look-a-like event planned for this Thursday in PlayStation Home where you can win some of the rarest items ever to appear in our world.

See you in Home!
2 videos on blog too.

Absolutely not. That has nothing to do with convenience... It's right on the XMB, ain't hard to find. Leave it there... IF they go your route I want a system option to choose whether or not my PS3 launches in to home, cause I'll be turning that off.

Your first part about offline downloading I don't have a problem with... but that make it the default stuff? Heck no.

100 new items and couple new spaces and shit? This is how you do a Home update. =]

Well they have to be ready for an influx of new customers with as much stuff as possible. This should hopefully fill up some of the emptier categories in the store.

I want a video of the post apocalyptic space. And some of the items.

I hope 1.3 improved the loading (yet again). Can't wait for game launching! I still remember 1UPYours talking about how "Sony has to shut it (Home) down by January, I mean they have to." not 1 month after it was out, or so. Not enough people actually know that Home is pretty profitable.

Howard Stringer said "If Home is still the same as it is now one year from now then I'd consider that a bit of a failure." It seems to be making the right steps imo.

Apparently one feature is the option of how much local storage to allocate. The more you allocate for cache, the quicker it loads and the quicker transitions between spaces will be. I presume because we will no longer have to download items/spaces on the fly every time.

There will probably still be a similar length initial login process, but the transitions should be quicker, as will store loads and items.

I am definitely looking forward to the cache options. I think it will get me to login to Home more often with a 12GB cache. :D

Are those items free or you have to pay for them? I have been a few months without touching Home, so I have absolutely 0 items... I thought the KZ2 area and the items looked fine, but then again I would have nobody to play with :/ (most of my contacts don't get around Home at all)

Cutting something implies that it is being severed or ceased; basically turned off. You don't cut something ON.

It's an apartment. Expect to pay $5-$6 dollars.

A few may be free, but mostly pay.
If you go on regularly you can accumulate quite a collection of freebies. A number of items are free for a week or a few days when they first come out.

I'll have to test out various levels of cache, but this feature sounds awesome. :D

One time there was some guy trying to take over the Burn Zombie Burn space because he wanted to start a mafia, and people who wanted to join had to pay $20. They were having meetings in the trailer room :lol He told one of his friends to watch the door so no one could get in.

People take Home very serious, especially some of the people who buy ghostbuster outfits.

You dare enter our secret meeting? Jonsey, bubble machine this guy!

I'd log into home if they actually started making arcades and other games you could put into your home. I have no idea what is taking them so long to implement such an idea. Put some nice virtual emulation in there, and we'd be great. I'd love to play contra in home. It'd give konami, capcom, and some of these other developers a lot of easy money.

Has anyone else recieved the free voucher from Sony for a Killzone 2 T-shirt because they downloaded 1 of the DLC packs. Pretty cool of them.

That sound cool. No, I haven't...

I got it, I quite like the t-shirt. I like all the Killzone t-shirts actually but I've never bought them because they cost too much (read: they cost money) so it's nice to have one for free.

I thought today would be a pretty cool update, didn't realize they were going to try charging for nearly all the new stuff. Good luck with that.

That would be awesome, but the gods of SCEE wont even let Europe have photo frames. I can't imagine them giving us TVs which we could stream teh pr0nz over.

And by the way, i was just joking about eBay. I actually use Home quite a bit ;)

Not really. Launching an arcade game in Home now just takes you out of Home and the loads the game. It takes a fair amount of time to from a game and then back again. You may as well just quit Home and return the normal way.
