PS3 Home Official Thread

Synced playback is something I've wanted on all the video screens in home, so this might be a sign that they're listening.
From my experiences (from the beta since may 07) they're generally always listening, it's just that they're kinda slow and don't attempt to add features they can't/would take too much time or resources.

Synced playback may be something neat in our spaces. That way it will give a reason to having people over.

Also, isnt there a big update coming soon? Any details?

Home has been growing on me quite a bit. Awesome update today.

I hated Home when it came out. I thought it was pretty stupid. I only thought it was okay because you could actually meet people to play games with... but now I spend more time in Home than I do in any games.

When is 1.3 releasing again?

Don't know exactly. They only said this month so possibly the 10th, 17th or 24th :D

Watched the Gunslinger Girl in the movie theater last night. All I got was a pedo feel, and I think I even saw pedo bear...maybe not, it was still weird.

Probably old news :(, but I have seen streaming support for Theatrics videos (finally also a real full-screen option too) enabled in EU Home (inside each "room", not on the large screen in the Theater's main hall yet).
Now it only "buffers" for a bit and then starts the playback... nice :).

Hope springs eternal. Synched multimedia playback would hark back to that original Home vision some of us were hoping for. Hopefully this would open the door to playback of your own content also, I get the impression the Bravia playing commercials was just for demo purposes... (hope so anyway!)

edit - also that robot has a great style to it :D hope they bring it out.

i made a Japanese account and i was wondering if there was a way to change the lang. to English so I can read the menus in home? and when i type on my keyboard it comes out in Japanese any way to make come out in English as well? thanks

I actually spent some time in HOME this morning. Background downloads are much faster than before and videos seem to buffer in the theater and play almost immediately. Video features wherever they are featured seem to load much faster now than ever before. I liked the Infamous HOME space. There are a lot of good ads in there (a lot of things I never saw) and there are good viral videos that give you some details that flesh out the game fiction. I think Insomniac and Guerilla Games missed some very big opportunities to develop HOME spaces that expand on the mythos for their respective games. Imagine a KZ HOME space where you can watch some kind of animated backstory that gives you a glimpse into the history behind the Killzone conflict. That would have been very cool. I still find the central plaza where everyone gathers to dance one of the cheesiest things I've seen in gaming.

I'm sure this is also an old feature but I discovered today that in order to create a 'Club' for HOME that you have to pay a $5.00 initiation fee and possibly a montly subscription fee down the road. That's a great way to keep people from establishing communities within HOME, Sony. Jesus.

Also, the Motorstorm HOME space is the biggest waste of time ever.

My SOCOM clan has a HOME club. :lol

The clan leader was kind enough to pay the initial fee. :lol

That $5 club fee is going towards server space since it's not generated locally like your apartment.

I really wish you could full screen the movie theater screens when you're sitting in the seats.

EU Home has quite a few free items of clothing uploaded today. Also for any Arsenal fans that use Home they can purchase an official replica kit for their avatar, the shorts and boots are free the shirts cost £1.59 I think. You can have a blank one of one with a player name on.

Hopefully they will bring more football/soccer shirts into Home, I would love a Barcelona one.

People use Playstation Home clubs? I thought Home was nothing more than dancing avatars doing the running man with virtual lines for digital games + terrible content updates?!

I'm still waiting for them to give free shoes to people that weren't in the closed beta.

So far the free items have been lackluster compared to the pay-for items. It's bizzare, it's like they don't really want to put in effort to give me a reason to go on Home. I think the only free item that I've been given was the mindfreak couch. At least that looked like someone spent some time on it.

Game wise, the virtual lines are bullshit. You can call me a "troll" or whatever but to defend that shit is bullshit. And the fact that I still can't play Chess/Mankala/Poker/Bowling in my personal space (hell, charge for it if you want) is bullshit. EA's Poker space had numerous glitches the months I tried it out.

Overall, I keep going to Home, so I'm not trolling when I say I find Home to be nothing more than a glorified chatroom, but hey if you want to find me a troll for making a sarcastic comment about the state of it, go ahead. I just laugh at you and the Home defenders on the PS boards that can't see that some people want it to be more than it currently is (and no, adding Singstar/other ad spaces does not expand Home, maybe 1.3 will with a few new gestures/dance moves, but eh...)

I'm waiting for:

TV
Personal game spaces so I can avoid the shitty lines and play with friends
an... actual reason to go to my personal space, reward items are nice and all but to sit there and chat and decorate my space isn't enough.

Also while I'm at it: Home events need to be better done, the contests that have been done so far is a crapshoot and not worth logging in for. (Even though I won one on random chance). The Home community managers need to think these out a bit better and have more SCEA/whoever is in charge of Home people on it.

Club spaces are going to be useless if they start charging people for upkeep at $5 a month. There is currently no reason to go to a clubspace unless people really are into Home (which, for the most part of the reason for clubs, aren't). It's like Personal spaces, just always on. There has to be a reason (for more than maybe checking for events) to go there.

just went on home in ages, had to download 2 updates,..

wow that was fucking hellish. framerate is pure dogshit wherever you go it seems. it's literally chugging constantly. not fun at all.

It's one of the reasons I haven't been on in ages (despite some cool sounding stuff being in there).

I guess if you're on there regularly you might not notice it as much. Maybe.

That's because you are still downloading content (probably video). Let it finish and the frame rate will "settle".

Anyone know when 1.3 is coming out? I'm waiting to see what universal game launching will be like. Hopefully it's more than just starting the game up like you normally would from the XMB.

I can almost guarantee that it will just be launching the game like you normally would from the XMB.

So every time I enter a room I have to stand still for 10 mins for everything to download... something is not right there at all. What if I have limited time. poor. Even the redbull space has a shit framerate, no matter how long you're in it. Try panning around anywhere..it's scary.

general performance needs a serious update IMO ... it's embarrassing.

Its funny, I totally forgot home existed. I remember I walked around in it for like 20 minutes when it first went live, then I deleted it because I thought it was a poor rip off of second life but without the porn and craziness.

It seems to me that all it has become is one giant advertising space, which is to bad because when the first announced it, it seemed like they were gonna do so much with it.

For me, I just don't feel like going into there when I have a PC that I can watch trailers on and if I want to play dress up I'll just use some of my daughters barbies.

No, not every time you go into a room, just when you go into a room and haven't been logged on in a minute. The videos do change you know, and you have to download them when they change. With a Cable connection, shouldn't be too much longer than a minute and the videos don't change for 3-4 weeks, so the first time you log into a scene and you haven't in 3-4 weeks then yes, you will have to wait 60 seconds for something to load.

I mean, can you do that with anything? Don't turn your computer on for 3-4 weeks, then turn it on, I bet you have to wait much longer than one minute to download all of the updates you've missed.

People like you kill me, you know absolutely nothing about something, yet completely bitch and moan about problems that don't exist. The only reason you had to wade through 2 updates and it took a long time for the scene to load is because you haven't logged on since (at least) June 2nd (Date of 1.22) since the last two updates were .22 and .23 Please get a grip, and understand that things update, and spaces have to download videos as they have the highest priority over everything, so it's not a bunch of blank screens sitting around not displaying content.

Myself, I'm not so much concerned with the changes to spaces and the content within, but having to constantly redownload clothing, store icons, even world map icons, is pretty excessive in my opinion. The more things other than that downloading in the background compound the problem, for instance background downloads of new space and/or buffering videos.

That's been my experience, anyway. I'm not shitting on Home or anything, just stating what I've seen.

Oh yeah, that's terrible, the store icons, World Map Icons, and the clothing should all be saved locally because they take forever to DL, I do hope that it was a memory issue, and with the 1.3 update where you can reserve space on your HDD that will be sped up because it's so stupid that you have to wait each time you go into a store, or to the world map.

So what you're saying is you don't understand the point of Home at all...right? Because it seems like you never did, even from the start.

I agree. I don't see the point of choosing the cache size if it won't let us cache spaces and store items and stuff. The store should be instant on and it often is when the servers are free, but at peak evening times they are dreadfully slow and a deterrent from browsing or buying anything.

In spite of all that, the end user experience to me is still poor. And it's not just the crap framerate, but that's one of the main reasons. If I want to hook up with a friend in a new space I can't be dealing with prolonged lag and load times. that's just not my idea of fun. i'd rather have the option to turn off the video feeds in that case (if it's the main culprit)
