PS3 Home Official Thread

Ok. So I'm new to the ps3 online thing. First of all I tried out their 'Home' game, or whatever. The Second Life thing. The only thing I wanted to see, was the Siren-lounge 'Ward of despair', which either is deleted, or isn't available in Europe.

Secondly I browsed Siren's DVD-cover, and find a cardboard from Sony luring me to sign up to their warranty service. This is what I got:

http://continuousplay.co.uk/

Dear Continuous Players, we set up this service ultimately to provide a fast, efficient and cost effective way to ensure that your experience with PlayStation 3 & PSP was as seamless and hassle free as possible. Unfortunately, some individuals have chosen to abuse this service and as a consequence we feel that we have no option but to suspend Continuous Play and postpone acceptance of new Continuous Play plans until further notice. We will of course honour existing customer's policies and look to amend the existing provision so that it is less vulnerable to exploitation. Sincere apologies

PlayStation Team

GREAT online experience...

But seriously, is the Siren lounge still around?

When I insert the disc, during the Sony Second Life game, I get the option to invite players to a game of sorts. What is all that about? I know the game is singleplayer only, so it is a sorta chatroom?

Mysteries... Dear god. Microsoft sure did it better.

EDIT: Acc. to Kotaku, the Siren - Ward of Despair launched in USA. It was later to be released in Europe, which it obviously never did. Excuse my rant.

Well the Siren space and the warranty have nothing to do with each other... so I am not sure that has anything to do with your online experience.

And looks like you found the answer as to the why the Siren space is not in Home. Some spaces are exclusive to some areas. Europe has a number of spaces that are not in NA, same with Japan and others. It seems they try to tailor each region to the cultures and important/popular games in that particular region.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I found the Siren lounge, with my USA/PS3 login. So I'm content again. :)

Yeah, their version of Home rocks!

though seriously if you want to check out the (actually kinda nice) Siren Space right now, you can just log into Home with e.g. your US account, this will lead you to the US Home servers (but you can't earn rewards for your primary account, only for this US account).
Edit: ok you know already :P

I'm on top of it, thanks. Looks very interesting. I'm a HUGE fan of the Siren-series.

The Heavy Rain space is pretty fun. You get Norman Jayden's ARI glasses and glove for solving the puzzle:

Nah mate. Awful prizes. I was expecting much more they way they hyped them up on the blogs. They should start giving custom animations to items, like bouncing a holoraphic ball on the ground, as en example, for these two items.

Hai thar.

I would've taken a screen of the big tv-screen with the origami and the rain, but screenshots on the tv-screens don't work for some reason.

The new personal space made by nDreams is launching this Thursday in the EU, looks quite good and a bit different from your usual personal space.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGSn--yBDlM

Press release:
nDreams announce Musicality, a live music venue within PlayStation®Home

nDreams are delighted to announce the imminent launch of “Musicality”, a unique
PlayStation®Home apartment that allows people to play in their own virtual live performance
venue. Up to four players can participate and perform music live in front of their friends, taking
control of keyboards, drums, guitar and a DJ console. With over 370 different loops available
and multiple ways to play, Musicality offers a unique online music experience.

The Musicality venue also features two floors, seating areas, animated screens, a shop and a
mixing desk that allows players to play background music whilst using the venue as their own
personal apartment. The space comes complete with a range of Dance loops, and additional
Rock and R&B music packs will be available from the Musicality shop.

Patrick O'Luanaigh said," We're very proud of Musicality, and we believe it will be a great
space to simply mess around in with friends. As well as a relaxed 'jam' mode, you can play
competitively, with each musician trying to outscore the others. Musicality will launch initially
in Europe, and we hope to bring it to North America and Japan soon afterwards."

BTW, Star Ocean 4 is being advertised through Home. :lol

Crap. I like the idea, but personal space? ;(

Well, the DJ EA space sort of has something similar in a basic form for free. This seems a lot more complex so I guess its a pay thing.

One thing That i've been wondering about for a while is. Why dosen't PSHome have trophies? For all of the complants about Home's UI and Bootup/ login times i find it no worst then any other MMO I've tried. Hell It took me longer to login to Everyquest back in the day. But Home dosen't have any sense of accomplishment to it. I played around with and enjoyed the Free Realms beta which was a collection of minigames wrapped in a MMO much like Home. But the playing the minigames and activities gave me a feeling a reward and progression. Home needs a "carrot on a stick" phenomena built into it. Trophies or a very simple leveling, progression system could go a long way in brining people back to home.

This is so going to be mine :D I can then invite all my friends to come to my aparment and we can play music games and they can listen to my creations. Home has so much potentials, it is unbelievable. They really need to market it right and it will bring so many casual users to the platform and specially to home.

Is there a new BETA for home going on? I've been a member of the EU beta team since the original home private beta and I just got an email inviting me to a new private beta for home.

I was just a bit suspicious. I can't see how a beta invite code could be malicious, but these days I just don't trust the internet and I haven't used home since it went public pretty much, I didn't realise they were still pushing it so much.

I actually like Home. When it first came out, I hated it. Now it's kinda growing on me :D I played bowling, explored the mall, and tried to make my room a little more presentable. Good fun when you find a cool group of people to chat with.

Would actually consider buying stuff for it if it were a bit cheaper (~$25 for a furniture set?!!).

Yes there is one.(I'm an original beta-tester too)

Ah ok thank you. I probably shouldn't be so suspicious, but I was sort of surprised by it all to be honest.

Is it worth getting back into it you think?

Its Event night only. My issue, i probably would not be able to make it for the events. :(

I normally get excited at the prospect of the word 'beta', but knowing PS Home, it's probably something stupid BS. Also who beta tests a beta? Why not get the 'full client' up, and then beta?

I can see that they are going to use the name 'beta' to excuse them from ever fixing this. :/

improvements in animation/running/loading? :>
please?

We (yeah, I'm in) don't know yet. Will know in about 3 hrs when servers are switched on.

One thing I can tell you (actually, I shouldn't, but I hope Sony considers this so minor they wont send ninjas to my house) is that the start up process has been streamlined by removing some of those "press X to continue". It basically goes from the black loading screen with white PlayStation Home logo to the "message of the day" screen without asking to press anything. This minor tweak alone is a godsend :lol

Is there something I'm missing? My Home has had the beta logo next to it for as long as I can remember.

yea, this is a second round of beta, probably testing new features. The original beta was closed at first too. This one will likely open up to the public eventually.

MEGATON! :D

There was one thing i was wonderng about. IF There ever is a HOME2.0 with a new/better engine, artstyle, animation and net code, whether things that were bought/won in HOME can be kept? At this point there are Hundreds( thousand?) items in Home. Would all art assets for all of those things need to be remodeled for a new improved HOME 2.0?

A welcome thing, but amazed it took them this long. And really it should just drop you straight into home, maybe with the message of the day overlayed on the screen when you log in. But like, you shouldn't have to press anything to load it, just go straight in.

I thought the same thing. It should be doable to just improve the animations though.

A new system that would allow for layered clothing would be cool as well. Then they can sell you a shirt, a tie and a coat, all separately.

They put a beta in our beta. Interesting.

yo dawg...

The thing TTP listed is gonna make me start it up again when it gets updated. :P

Last time I tried it it was OK... but just OK. Meaningless, but still kind of a fun for 15 minutes.

Hot damn, I guess I'll be logging back into Home here and there once the update hits, hopefully Planetspace has some merits beyond looking incredible.

Are there still the same 5 items you can choose to customize your space with?

This was one of the cooler features I thought Home would provide, but it turns out all I have are the stupid white cube, one sofa, one lamp, and a table.

Honestly? How hard is it to add a few more objects? This software has been out for so long...
