PS3 Home Official Thread

PlayStation Home update 1.5:

Today, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, we lifted the veil on PlayStation Home’s version 1.5, which will be coming to your PS3s in early spring. The update will introduce a suite of new technology with tools that will enhance your experience with real-time multiplayer, improved physics, as well as more realistic graphics and animations. PlayStation Home v1.5 was developed with one singular goal in mind: high-quality games. Developers will utilize the improved network mechanics to bolster the multiplayer experience with the fastest action available. With the revamped physics engine, developers will carry more control over physics elements, graphics, rendering and animations, which will translate to more realistic and more intricate game experiences.

This update is significantly different from what you, the PlayStation Home community, have come to expect from past core client updates. While versions 1.3 and 1.4 brought user-facing features like Voice Chat, Cross Game Invites, Navigation Improvements, In-Store Previews, New Item Types (such as Active Items and Companions), Optimized Load Times and Universal Game Launching, PlayStation Home v1.5 is packed with tools and features that will enable developers to expand the types of games possible on the platform – from first-person shooters with real-time, peer-to-peer multiplayer to kart racers and more. These new developer tools also allow for richer graphics and an overall improvement to frame-rate, which is something on top of everyone’s wish list.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding – which is why we want to take this opportunity to show you how PlayStation Home v1.5 will impact your in-world experience. Behold SodiumTwo, the follow up to Lockwood Publishing’s massively successful tank combat game, Sodium One. The game, which is scheduled for release in conjunction with the 1.5 update, takes advantage of v1.5 and features heavily customizable jets squaring off in fast action multiplayer races at supersonic speeds. Check it out!

SCEE content update:

While yesterday’s announcement of PlayStation Home Version 1.50 leaves us wondering at what gaming possibilities the future holds, today we are back to the present day and this week’s content update.

After last week’s PixelJunk Monsters furniture items and today’s release of PixelJunk Shooter 2, we have more love from Q-Games in the form of five race car suits for the men and five pieces of track side attire for the ladies.

While we’re catering for any petrol heads, anyone that enters Home Square will receive a MotorStorm Apocalypse T-Shirt directing them to an online promotion where they can claim yet another T-Shirt.

Additionally, you can grab surfer clothes including board shorts and jackets in Billabong; two new dartboards, a standalone English pool table and some 50s and 60s appliances from the Vstore; St. Patrick’s Day hats and Mesmo Clothing at Codeglue; and a selection of translucent, chrome and faux leather furniture from the Furniture Store.

I'm having a bit of trouble accessing some of the content in stores at the Mall. For some reason a big part of the clothing items and costumes appear to be locked out or restricted. I've asked around but nobody else seems to be having this issue. They've advised me to contact Sony about this, but I'm sure I'm missing something else... like having to unlock them somehow. Are they supposed to be unlocked by playing the games? Downloading the demos perhaps? Any help would be much appreciated.

What's the MO then? I can't make a thread, and even if I could my question doesn't warrant I thread I don't think... I also posted the question hours ago, it's not like I bumped it only minutes later.

BTW, thanks. Let's see if that works.

Haven't seen anything yet, or haven't noticed. Maybe it'll come more into play with the upcoming update.

No bumping period I think is the rule. Whether its your thread or not.

As to Plus, I think we just get a few items. At least I have a few Plus related items. Not sure if they were given out at a certain time or what.

Some ver. 1.5 details from Andriasang, some stuff we already knew though.

Latest on PlayStation Home Version 1.5

Famitsu has a report on PlayStation Home's upcoming Version 1.5 update. Here's some of the info that has leaked out. I'm not totally sure what's new and what was previously revealed:

-The response speed will increase (this is presumably just the improved framerates, responsiveness, etc. that was announced previously).
-You'll be able to play competitive and cooperative FPS games.
-Sony is working with a variety of publishers on projects.
-Home online games can be made faster and at lower cost that standard online games. For instance, even if you had a game in the planning phases now, it could be released between summer and fall.
-Sony is considering connectivity with the NGP system.
-Sony is also considering having games be made in cooperation with players.

EU update

nDreams now has an official HQ in the form of Aurora, a beautiful floating archipelago. It will be constantly evolving with new games and attractions and, at launch, you can help power the islands by taking part in OrbRunner, or check out the Aurora Defence preview for some stunning views.

Players can gain experience every day and climb from level to level, with secret rewards and bonus items given out along the way. Also available is the Aurora Island apartment which includes an action-packed playable combat game (which also provides experience points) as players help defend the skies of Aurora from a range of lethal enemies.
Meanwhile, there’s a bumper update from Lockwood this week, starting with the Iron Fusion and Cucumber ranges, following the success of Fool Throttle and Figment. Cucumber is as cool as its typically refrigerated namesake and seeks to take the stress out of interior design with a range of furniture to suit all tastes, from the modern to the traditional.

The Bayonne sofas and armchairs come in bright and dark shades. Or, perhaps for a little touch of French elegance, pick up a Chaise Longue, available in a wacky cow print or a sunny shade of yellow.
In contrast, Iron Fusion provides the latest in cybernetic fashion, melding man with machine with The Menace, Fractal and Rosko Full Body Suits which include a powerful back flip.

Two pets from Dragon’s Lair have found their way from the mysterious wizard’s castle to PlayStation Home. Singe, the villainous dragon, will now follow you around as your loyal friend and protector. He might still have a nasty habit of kidnapping princesses, but that is mostly kept in check. You can also take a giddy goon with you on your travels through PlayStation Home. Domesticated giddy goons will bounce around and practice their swordsmanship when you’re not looking.

Everyone’s favourite Blob is now available IN SHIRT FORM. Stand strong while displaying a “Can of Awesum Sauce” on your chest. Proudly wear our take on your favourite internet memes including the Double Rainbow, and Ceiling Cat. Or, simply go with the classic Blob himself. Be the life of the party with this knock out collection of great About a Blob T-shirts, available from Threads.
Elsewhere, we have some tennis clothing and a companion from Top Spin 4; Hard Corps Uprising items, including Bahamut and Krystal costumes; and, Last but not least, be sure to stop by Home Square and paparazzi the PlayStation Move Heroes. Enter your favourite photos on the forums and the best heroes and villains will be uploaded to our facebook page, with a prize for the winner.

PlayStation Home will be updated at the usual time on Thursday.

Sounds like a pretty good update. Aurora sounds quite cool.

Not that anyone but maybe me and two people will care, but there is a LBP2/Prius event up in the Central Plaza. Gives you a Sackboy mask/headpiece where Sackboy has "ate" your head. Kinda neat for free and goes with my free Slurpee LBP2 tee. :D

(I still need 2 Slurpee points for the Slurpee sticker pack in LBP. Woe.)

Are they ever going to make a version that doesn't run like complete ass?

Like, the thing chugs for me.

Also, why is it that everytime I start it up, there are ghost people for a good 2 minutes? This a technical hurdle that they just cannot fix, or is it poor programming?

It's worked really well for me after the MLAA patch. It used to be really choppy but I haven't had any perfomance issues lately.

Ghost people is propably a memory limitation of the system. Dunno.

As far as I know there's no way around 'ghosting' since all the avatars are unique and user content driven. Never tried Second Life?

Here was an odd assembly of 'Homelings' sighted today, I have no idea what was going on here.. http://twitpic.com/4fk6mx

This week, Lockwood has updated the Sodium Hub and they sent over the following introduction to the changes:

It’s time for a brand new look at the Sodium Hub. While the Test Pilots have been hard at work getting Project Velocity compliant with Transonic Racing regulations, a separate team has been preparing the Sodium Hub for the next Reality Shift.
With the growing popularity of trans-dimensional extreme sports, and real-time multiplayer action coming to Home in Project Velocity, Scorpios has been expanded with all new seating and a dedicated Teleportal, giving pilots the opportunity to socialise before a race, or to throw down a challenge to anyone who thinks their reflexes are fast enough.
Access to the Salt Shooter training facility has also been made easier for those of you who feel you need a little seasoning before taking on the challenges of Salt Shooter or Project Velocity.

With Easter around the corner, Lockwood is also gearing up for some egg-shaped fun and they sent over the following to whet your appetite:

Villainy is afoot in PlayStation Home this week! Poor Lucy the Goose has been robbed and she needs your help and the thief is still at large. Baron von Eggenschtealer, the wily lop eared villain has made off will Lucy’s eggs, the Blaggard!
But hope remains, dear friend, if you will come to dear Lucy’s aid. The butter-pawed fiend in his rush to make off with the goods is carelessly dropping eggs everywhere he goes.

5592159245_c0acf2ee21.jpg

To help bring the cad to justice and rescue Lucy the Goose’s eggs get the Baron’s Eggcellent Plan Active Object and let the egg hunt begin.
For the keen eyed among you there is a rumour that some friendly swans have been answering Lucy’s call with a couple of items to help would-be egg-rescuers in their quest.
And just in case all that egg and rabbit mayhem isn’t quite enough to put you in a bright Spring mood, some brilliant sunny yellow raingear will be hitting the Lockwood Catalogue this week, just in time for any April Showers.

Tomorrow also sees the launch of the brand new multiplayer Audi Sledge. Up to 6 people can now race against each other at any one time down a new course with a new leader board. Oh, and we’ve thrown in a free brand new apartment for everyone.

5595555356_2b57c728d0_m.jpg

Just pick up the free Audi Sled apartment from Home Square, Audi Home Terminal or Audi Alpine Lodge, invite your mates to the apartment for a race, and off you go.
Bronze, silver and the ultimate gold race suit rewards are there to be be won by the best of the best.

5595555230_d59dc332e3.jpg

Let the (all new multi-player) games begin!
Elsewhere, you can now buy a chess table to lock intellects with your friends in your personal space and there’s a set of Futuristic Soldier costumes available in Alter Ego These include the R.E.B.E.L. freedom fighter, the heavy-handed D.E.M.O. trooper and the ubiquitous G.R.U.N.T. soldier.

We also have six Home front full-body suits as well as Conner, Hopper, Boone, KPA, and Rianna full body costumes.
Home will update at the regular time on Thursday.

You can get into the Sodium 2 beta by downloading the teleport pad from the commerce point. Looks cool and doesn't cost anything. I don't think it'll be up forever so grab it while you can.

Got a code for participating in the GT Academy for a "GT Academy Racing Suit" in HOME. (It says it's available only to U.S. residents.)

I don't even have HOME installed, so first person to quote this can have it.

eBay? I've seen Home skins for a decent amount of cash.

Do you guys think Home will transition to the next Sony systems, NGP and PS4?

Considering how far it has come since it's oft-mocked days (and many still have that image in their heads), it'll be a pretty interesting road-tested 3D framework for them to leverage going forward.

Hmm i downloaded it......visited it two times.....and stoped. Its slow, and it needs to download a lot. If they can change that I will be in

There are some diehard Home fans out there spending more on virtual clothes than psn games and I'm sure they would spend ~$300 on an NGP to have a portable version of home that can be booted up anytime from anywhere.

If Sony doesn't release Home(out of beta ver, maybe?) on NGP, they will miss some extra revenue.

PS4 should continue with an improved engine and importing their avatar. Since it will hopefully use PSN, all their purchases should work. If they do something like LBP>LBP2 dlc importing, that would be good.

Patch Note

Application of the patch

If you are upgrading from any version of Home other than the latest one (1.41) then when you attempt to apply the 1.5 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process.

New features
Wardrobe

We have increased the number of wardrobe save slots to 24.
There is a new facial structure under “Character -> Structure” in the wardrobe.
We have added a download progress bar and speed indicator to the Navigator when downloading a space.
There have been various graphical tweaks to the Navigator.
We have added a new option to let you more easily manage furniture that has been placed in your Personal Space or Clubhouse.
When you are in one of those spaces you can access the new management screen from the Menu Pad under “Personal -> Redecorate -> Furniture”.
The screen lists thumbnail images and names of all of the items of furniture currently placed in the space. You can alter what is displayed on this list:

Navigator

Furniture management

o By pressing [L1] and limiting it to only one category of furniture (for example just “Actives”, “Seating” or “Lighting”).
o By pressing [R1] and changing the order in which the list is sorted (for example by “Recently placed” or “Closest” to your character).
The list changes dynamically so if you choose to order it by furniture that is “Closest” to your character it will update as you move around the space.
The currently selected furniture item is highlighted with a blue box around it.
If you hover over an item on the list your camera will turn to face it.
You can temporarily fade out most of the interface by pressing and holding [L2] to get a better view of the space. The effect is analogue so the more you press the button the more the interface will fade.
Pressing [CROSS] with an item selected will take you to the standard furniture movement menu for that item.
It is possible to “tag” one or more furniture items on the list for removal by selecting it and pressing [TRIANGLE].
o Items tagged like this have a grey border around them.
o You can un-tag an item by pressing [TRIANGLE] on it again.
When you exit the management menu any items tagged for removal will be removed from the space.
o You are still given the option to confirm the mass removal once it has been applied or undo it.

Chat log

We have added a new symbol for slash commands “@”. So “/Local” and “@Local” will both do the same thing.
You can quickly access the channel switching option menu by pressing d-pad
on the text tab or d-pad
on the voice tab.
There is a new option to find another user in your space. You can access it by highlighting a line of text in the chat log, pressing [CROSS] and choosing “Locate”. This will make their name label flash until you get near to them.
There are several new customisation options for the chat log. These can be found in the Menu Pad under “Settings -> Personal -> Chat Log”:
o There is a new chat log text size “small” for people with large, HD TVs.
o You can adjust the channel prefix attached to each line of text.
o You can add a time stamp to each line of text.
o For each channel you can change:
§ Whether text from this channel is visible in the chat log.
§ How the pop-up colour of other users is displayed.
§ Whether chat bubbles are displayed.
When you attempt to enter text from the VKB or a USB keyboard the chat log will automatically switch to the text tab.
If the chat log is minimised it will automatically open when you receive a Private Message.
There is a new “None” option for voice channels which will take you out of voice communication.
We have added some more keyboard controls so that when maximised the chat log can be controlled with the arrow keys, Enter and Escape.
We have reduced the stuttering (sometimes interpreted as “lag”) that could occur when you receive a reward.
The loading of high “level of detail” characters has been improved. [Thank da lord]
There is a new “game” icon to indicate when you have a game targeted before you interact with it.

General

Wardrobe

We have added 13 new character presets to the wardrobe under “Presets”.

maximum success.

The latest PS Blog post revealed that SCEA might try to stream the E3 conference to Home.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/29/playstation-fans-watch-e3-online-try-to-win-your-way-in/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=WinIntoE3_052811

While I’ve no problem with tuning it at the blog, is there a chance we could watch the live stream in Playstation Home, like perhaps the Sunset Yacht space or Mansion? Just curious.

The team is working to make this a possibility! Look for more details here soon.

There's some room for interpretation in the question as we've been able to watch conferences in Home in the past but they've been put up the day after the conference. An actual stream could be really cool, definitely worth a gaf meetup.

Would have been awesome if your private place in Home could have a tv where Sony can stream stuff to so you and your friends could get together at someones place and watch E3 without a hundred other people spamming the chat.

So what regions/countries does Home not work in?
I was hoping that with this reason update to PS3 and PSN that Home would work with my PS3 account =/

More info on the whole Home E3 stream shebang.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/31/experience-e3-live-from-your-ps3-with-streaming-keynote-virtual-playstation-booth/

With the E3 Expo just around the corner, the PlayStation Home team is happy to announce that you’ll be able to be part of the convention excitement — right from your PS3!
For the first time ever, PlayStation Home will host a live public video stream of the Sony E3 press conference on Monday, June 6 at 5pm Pacific Time in a special screening room. You can watch SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton reveal all of the big E3 announcements and watch never-before-seen footage of tons of upcoming PS3 and NGP titles.

We’re also happy to confirm that the PlayStation Home E3 Virtual Booth is making a triumphant return! The virtual booth was visited by a lot of people last year (five times more people than physically attended E3 2010!), making it huge success for us and hopefully for you as well. If you visited the booth last year, you’ll remember that we enabled you to explore a virtual recreation of PlayStation’s E3 booth. Expect the same this year, with a few new surprises — including a 3D-rendered NGP to inspect from every angle.

Be sure to visit the E3 Booth in Home at the start of the show on Tuesday, June 7 at 12pm Pacific Time and earn exclusive virtual items as you visit the different areas in the virtual E3 booth. Once you unlock all the virtual items, you’ll be able to check out Home content in the VIP area and play the first level of Scribble Shooter – an upcoming top-down, shoot-em up game featuring hand-drawn enemies that is being designed to look as if you’re playing on a notepad — as well as a Heavy Water package with active virtual items. Why spend money on a plane ticket to LA when you can attend E3 right from your PS3?
Additionally, the PlayStation.Blog team will be streaming live game demonstrations straight from the show floor into PlayStation Home, so you won’t miss a single beat of all the excitement of E3. They’ll be scouring the show for any exciting new titles to show off, and you can watch it all within PlayStation Home. LIVE!
We hope you come visit. See you, virtually, at E3!

tldr: Virtual E3 booth, games, LIVE stream of the conference as well as live game demos. Sounds great to me if they can pull it off without any hitches(lol)

Sounds pretty awesome, I hope the stream will be good (hopefully this specific feed will be Home-exclusive as this should limit the traffic).

But weren't the last years' presentations a bit earlier?
5pm pacific time is 2am in the morning here, I remember watching Sony live last year around 10/11 pm... that means I probably won't watch it live in Home now...

..UNLESS we will make a Home GAF meeting to watch the show together :D

btw how many people can be in the same room at once, 32 or 64? Also, we would need to either split into different regions to use our real accounts or all meet up in one Home region with fake/foreign accounts.
