Trying to figure out to do the quests in the game. Stuck on the Ferris wheel one. Does it have to be a friend you know in the ferris wheel car with you?

There's a new post on PlayStation.Blog announcing that they will soon be offering "hundreds of full-length Hollywood movies and thousands of television shows" that you can watch in Home with your friends.

If I recall correctly, this was something that was discussed quite some time back, but the idea seemed to fade from the limelight as time passed (most of us probably assumed it would never actually happen). It will be interesting to see how well this works, if there's a good selection of movies, and if there are any strange technical issues or restrictions.

Wow, US Home is officially dead.
(and EU too, not like that was ever good).
JP is the only real reputable Home now.

They completely removed Central Plaza, the Mall and some other key memorable spaces in return for cramped, soulless "hub" space that obviously caters to the direction US Home was heading in for awhile...catering to children/young teens spending money like crazy on digital items. All of it is slapped in your face in an already cramped space.

JP Home still has soul and is pumping out very detailed and interesting spaces. Check out the two Granzella spaces (the ancient Japan town and tropical island one). The main Square is still the same for a reason, it's architectural digital masterpiece. That place is PS Home to me. And the JP Mall? Retains how it looked originally with the original iconic Mall theme.

Moving on...I had hundreds of JP/US Home photos since the photo feature game out, but lost them all in July due to a HDD crash. Are there any fan sites with pictures of all the old spaces (JP Spelunker winter, JP Square Christmas 2009, US Central Square 2010 Christmas, etc)?

^I dunno, but man I just remembered how much fun I had in Home. It was four fucking years ago I think, maybe more? The closed private beta. I remember meeting Phil Harrison INSIDE home once with a group of home-friends. We knew it was him (his PSN ID had a SPACE in it) and he chatted how we liked it etc. Some great times, hilarious stuff too. I think I was actually regular friends with Gregg or someone from IGN's beyond podcast, he had a ridiculous looking avatar, but at the time I was only like 15 or 16 and didn't know who he was. I remember this video I had released leaking Home (tour basically of the features, more than 100k views from veoh alone) since it was still closed beta, and it circulated everywhere but was taken down almost everywhere as well. However, I got this email from Veoh a while ago about my account, and I was like 'I have an account there?' and lowandbehold all that leaked Home stuff from the first beta is there. It's come a long way, but I don't care what anyone says, those who were with me in the original tight closed beta know how awesome and fun those times were, just chatting and exploring and discovering. Anyway, just though I would add some input.

I realize now I violated the terms and shit by leaking that way back, but I was a fucking kid.

Turbo bump activate.

Three new exclusive games for Home. Cutthroats, No Man’s Land, Mercia.

Bah...let me know if they play well. The only game I liked in PS Home is Scribble Shooter (or was it called something else ?)

All the 3D ones sucked.

EDIT: Oh yes, I liked Salt Shooter too, even though it's a 3D vehicle shooting game. But the 3D human character games were bad.

Hm, seems worth a look. I just hope that they don't have the janky animation, animation transitions, and movement that seems to be a trademark of Home games. Maybe the technology has advanced.

Last night, I accidentally clicked on the Home app for the first time in a few months. I've actually enjoyed many hours of Home, before. There was an update, so I said "What the hell..." and proceeded to see what was new. It looks like there's been quite a lot of changes, and new content to check out, one of them being the casino that I don't remember seeing before. So, I decided to "briefly" check out some of the new stuff. I was quickly reminded what I grew tired of, before. THE LOADING! *sigh* If it wasn't for the frequent loading inhibiting my desire to freely roam about its vast world of content, I would have spent far more time in Home than I already have. If the horrible loading times have turned off someone like me, who genuinely wants to enjoy the content in Home, the number of potential casual gamers that it's turned off must be staggering.

Too little too late if you ask me. Nice for the 70 people who occasionally still use the service though.

How do you still operate under this massive misconception? Seriously, GAF =/= Home user base. Maybe log in and see for yourself, lots of people use it, just not lots of people that align with your tastes.

A massive amount of people use it

I was being sardonic. Why hasn't any of the trophy stuff happened that they talked about? And why hasn't there been more of an effort to integrate Home into other aspects of the PlayStation ecosystem if it's that profitable? I'd still like to use the service if the core experience wasn't so completely terrible.

edit:
Come on do we really need this same tired argument after all these years?

Yes we do, in my opinion.

We need to argue that only 70 people use it, when it is clearly not the case? Being Sardonic or not, if you browse GAF you should know better than to suggest it isn't successful (unless you're one of the new Juniors recently graduated from GamFAQs, which you clearly aren't).

Also, all of the above didn't happen because it simply wasn't important to what Home was becoming, as was evident through the closed beta process. It is profitable, and the people that use it enjoy it a lot. I don't really see what else they need to do besides focus on THAT user base that is funneling money to them for virtual goods.

Clearly you aren't the consumer they should chase, since you can't even bring yourself to believe people enjoy using it and that it is a profitable endeavor for Sony.

What's the userbase like in HOME nowadays? Populated? Always curious how this is doing for some reason.

It's populated with people who spend way too much money on things they absolutely don't need. The user base tends to migrate to the newer areas, and older areas eventually become desolate waste lands (depending on the game, of course). Area's with games tend to remain populated for longer periods of time.

I contemplated starting a new thread to ask this, but hopefully I can get some answers.

for those who use Home, how often do you find yourselves there, what do you do while in it and what are some of your favorite things/places in it?

i just downloaded it to see what it was like and i am fairly lost about the whole thing and why people use it, what they get out of it, etc.

i'd love to hear from the bigger segment of users here.

I don't personally use it, though I have in the past for live streams of events, etc. It's a good and "easily accessible" social tool for people who don't want to venture out into the world of Forums, etc. That, and it's basically second life lite.

so did anyone ever attended the E3 Theater? They were giving out some items there. The stream was crappy for me so I got off fast and watched on my PC.

I went through all of it yesterday. Tons of items, from clothes to companion pets. Pretty well done and informative quest to get everything too. And a Dust 514 beta invite. This game looks like it might be fun.

The biggest thing they can change though is play local files instead of streaming if available. For example, I downloaded to E3 presentation, so it should play it off the hard drive instead of streaming it.

Everyone seen the Home Tycoon trailer? Made by Hellfire games who made Novus Prime (one of my favourite games in Home)

The trailer was on the upper floor of the E3 space. Can't find it online. Looked good though. Kinda like SimCity

Home Tycoon looks great.

I was in the beta for the shooter game coming out. It wasn't too bad. Never anyone online to try a multiplayer game though. The new jungle/ruins RPG thing is horrid. It just doesn't flow, and is pretty confusing.

Still rocking my closed beta summer 08 shirt. I don't get on much, and neither do very many of my friends. Most of us just play games all the time. The ones on Home rarely play regular games, at least from what I see on my list and random viewing of folks trophy lists there.

Yeah i've found that too. Still, if they enjoy games on Home fair play to them. I went on last weekend for the first time in a month or two (Home kept throwing up errors, but it seems to finally be sorted) and was impressed by how many people were around still.

There's still a ton of folks, but I don't think it's going to be how it used to be. I miss the days when I'd stay up til 6am for Home maintenance to end so I could do the next day's Xi mission, or hanging out in a place and accidentally happening upon a group of people you already knew. Now it's all segmented and I feel so much more disconnected to it. Especially after they added that horrible new central plaza.

No Man's Land

It does look interesting. Their games run very well compared to the actual spaces.

It did look pretty nice. I could not tell how extensive it was though, they never did show a large city. Although I do like that you can drive around in your city with other players. That looked like fun.

The jungle game could be interesting if it allowed groups to play together, but it has poor hit detection and a confusing UI so you dont really know what you're doing.

The topless guy with a Sly head just makes that picture 100x better

He was there almost non stop during E3, just wandering around. At one point he got people to put on their Sly heads so there were about 30 Sly people running around the E3 space in a big circle.

Yeah that's a good point. Still looks pretty fun though.

Wow that just sounds scary. Now that you mention it, i think i did walk into him when i was checking out the E3 space. One was freaky enough, let alone 30 of them.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I've been trying to download Home for awhile now. It's been about a year or so since I last played (maybe even as far back as 2010). It keeps stopping on the "Message of the Day" page with two figures standing around the box. Lights keep flashing like mad, but nothing happens.

Should I just delete the install and start from fresh or wait it out?

If both lights keep flashing (green and orange) just wait. How fast is ur internet connection?

I left it alone and it's good to go now. :)

For some reason it thought my camera was Player 1 so I was unable to hit X to continue even if I really wanted to. Once I figured that out, I was good to go.

Granzella made another Home space (they must be making a lot of money off of this)

The studio will soon open a new lounge called "Another Beach" in commemoration of its one year anniversary on PlayStation Home.

The beach will be free for all, but will only be accessible by those 15 and up. Granzella will also sell a personal space called "Hot Beach Just For Two." This will be priced ¥700, discounted to ¥500 through July 31.

I didn't even know that certain Home spaces had an age restriction.

PlayStation Home: Blueprint announced. Build your own house.

Blueprint: Home from nDreams will allow you, for the very first time, to create and build your own apartment. With a variety of different style packs you can craft your perfect pad. Want one huge warehouse with ten doors and no windows? That’s fine. How about a house with twenty-five rooms and a courtyard in the middle? No problem. Fancy moving it instantly from a country field to the top of a skyscraper? Easy.

Rooms, doors, windows, wallpaper, flooring, ceilings, feature objects, exteriors, skies and environments. Let your imagination run wild and create and store multiple apartments exactly how you want them – machinima makers, this is perfect for you too. You are the architect with Blueprint: Home.

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/07/03/playstation-home-blueprint-for-the-future/

I think it looks pretty cool. Should've had something like this from the beginning.

I was in the beta as well. Quite fun. I think they are getting better and better with the Home games. They just need to make the hubs as high quality as the games in terms of performance.

PlayStation Home: Update to v1.7
New Features

Camera
The camera has been added as an Action to the Emotes menu. This means you can now take pictures in Home while you are using a companion or other portable item.

Select the Emote menu by pressing R1.
Select the Camera option.
The camera is activated and works in the same way as the portable version.
The camera can be put away by pressing [Circle].

Changes to Commerce

We have made changes to the commerce process to speed it up and make it easier to browse and shop.

Item thumbnails and object details are now displayed on the same screen.
A Buy Now function has been added. Simply highlight the thumbnail of an item and press [SQUARE]. You will then be taken directly to the checkout screen where you can confirm if you wish to make the purchase.
Items can quickly be added to the basket by highlighting the thumbnail and pressing the [TRIANGLE] button.
Pressing [R1] has also been added as a shortcut to view the basket.

Animating Items
New functionality has been added that allows developers to create a new type of animating portable item.

These items allow for an animating object to be used or worn by your avatar.
These item types can also increase the movement speed of your avatar by 50% when applicable.

Improvements

Ignore and Block
We have added some small features to the Ignore or Block function.

If you ignore or block a player you will no longer see any emotes they perform.
The ignored or blocked avatar is kept a bit further away from your avatar. (Yay! Personal space!)
The ignored or blocked avatar will be faced away from you when they are close.
“Ignored” or “Blocked” will be displayed under the name label of a player that you have ignored or blocked.

Private Message

A Sound Effect now plays when you receive a new Personal Message (PM).

General

A number of general stability improvements have been made.

As if that wasn’t enough, here’s the list of what’s new and happening in PlayStation Home.
