PS3 launch delayed until fall?

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060103-5890.html

Just a snippet :

If Sony wanted to stoke the rumor mill, they've done their job well. Rumor sites are now buzzing with speculation that the PS3 launch is delayed due to bugs. Kotaku now claims to have some of the inside information that we all love so much. They assert that the PS3's problems are severe enough that the launch has to be postponed because it's impossible to get the games running well. It's certainly no secret that the asynchronous and highly multithreaded nature of the console is making games harder to develop and that the learning curve is fairly steep, but if things really are this bad, Sony could be in some hot water with developers.

Also Kotaku is reporting some stuff:

Sad news if true for gamers. You just know Bill Gates is calling his spy network to see if this is legit.lol

Sony should just say that Next Gen doesn't start without us and postpone the thing to 2007 while cutting the PS2 price to $99.99 at E3 in May.

Wasn't it Kotaku that jumped on that comment Fishie made about no way it's going to make it out in Fall? Is that what this "rumor" is about?

Yep, Kotaku is eeevillll

I'm guessing that Fishie gets his info from third party developers rather than Sony themselves, though. So even though the devs might not think it's ready, SCE may launch it ;)

Still, if it's delayed, I wouldn't be at all surprised. The "Spring 2006" date has always been a placeholder to try and thwart MS's plans (IMO)

i know some of you don't like Fishie, but you at least have to accept that this is the sort of stuff he _COULD_ know about. What you have to be careful of is whether he's feeding you bull or truth.

Whether this is from Fishie, i have no idea. But Fishie certainly isn't the first OR the only person to talk about delays of the PS3.

Yeah, I don't understand Fishie. He has the ability to "knowingly" feed you bull or truth.

But didn't someone post that Fishie would update more info later on and apparently never did (atleast according to people here)? It seemed like more of something to try to get fanboys going.

That Kotaku story was pulled from Fishie, and the merits of that are dubious at best. Mostly, the bugs part. The system is months away, what bugs could they find when they probably haven't even started production yet. This isn't like the PS2 bug rumors which cropped up like a month or two before the system launched. Then again, it could be the reason final dev kits haven't shipped yet. But whatever. If Mark Rein is being coy about the PS3 launch, I have a hard time believing something more concrete is going around the press mill. PEACE.

nothign like speculations on a rumor of a rumor! hahah :)

and Kotaku as a real source ? come on now, they lost all credibility when they went so blatently anti-xbox360

man, now after i played the warriors i'm hoping someone makes a parody movie feature Kutaragi, Miyamoto and Bill Gates

Sony doesn't have to say anything. Why give up any information when the speculation is mostly in their favor.

You're in a thread where the speculation is that their system is about to be delayted due to bugs, and you're saying that?

I'm just saying Sony doesn't have to respond to things like this because they will not stick. Even if this was true without a press release by Sony themselves most would choose not to believe it.

Not delayed at all...I told all of GAF long ago it wouldnt be in the states till 4th qtr 2006....at the earliest. But nooooooooo, many laughed and said no way they would let ms have that much time on the market alone. Any one keep those threads? Plenty of crow will be served this fall. =)

QFT. Anyone who believes otherwise is either a Sony Kool-Aid drinker or has not learned from the history of this industry or Sony's past talk\actions.

Yeah...this is about as big a story as the sun rising in the east for the upteenth time.

The only question is when it'll come out in Japan...a first quarter/spring launch puts it between April and June, and the latter part of that timeframe still sounds pretty feasible.

Europe might be 2007.

Sony are focused on Ps2.

PS2 UK sales in december alone exceeded total 360 sales to date.

Sony must simply not be ready for launch in Spring, like Microsoft wasn't ready for last November. I prefer a delayed PS3 than a rushed launch, defective machine and half-baked games.

I think this is simply false, if they had suggested PS3 was delayed due to RSX hold backs I'd be cautious but give it a fair shake. The fact they use bugs in the hardware, which would suggest IMMENSELY HUGE issues, as the reason for a delay when we've already seen MGS4 running on betas not to mention the fact IBM has had working CELLs since the begining of 2005 and yadda yadda seems pretty weak to me. Maybe bugs with RSX, but again if RSX was where the problem was occuring they'd probably have said something, especially considering how little news we have regarding it.

Im just curious to know why people actually want a delay. Instead of bitching about it like they do about everything else they sit back and applaud sony for not having their shit together. Its funny to watch really. If I had to wait another year for HD gaming I would go insane.

With Xbox 360 selling like shit in Japan, Sony should just release the thing in 2007 where they can drop the price $100, get a faster BD drive and build up a AAA launch lineup.

This would show the public that Microsoft and the Xbox 360 is merely a tick on their balls and Sony does what Sony wants whenever the fuck they want to do it.

If the games aren't ready for launch, why the hell should they force it out? That's why people would be ok with it if it were to be delayed. If that's what it takes to get stable framerates, somewhat smooth animation ect, then delay it. As much as I want the PS3, I have no problem waiting a little longer if that's what it takes to have launch amazing looking (and playing) launch titles. The PS2 lineup will easily hold me over.

If they went anti-Xbox 360, this should make them a worthy ally in the eyes of many GAFFERS.
