I think it's funny that anyone here knows how good the launch line up will be. Can I borrow your crystal ball?
heh

Damn... I had a blast with those games within the first two or three weeks of PS2's release. It was probably the most fun I'd had, collectively, since SNES' first US Christmas in 1991. @_@

Im with you man. Price drops for the fuckin win.Amir0x said:I still think every launch ever was shitty.
But if the hypothetically shitty PS3 and Rev launches don't at least have Warhawk and Mario PLATFORMER respectively, they're getting waited on too. Yeah, the waiting game. Price drops for all. In my hypothetical future.
And the only truly great title on that list is SSX.TheJollyCorner said:did people really think the US PS2 launch was bad?

Also, how could a PS2 launch game be GOTY '01?

Just like I did for the PSP and the 360.![]()
Amir0x said:I'm pretty sure you won't be defending it, since PS3 launch is going to be horrible.
vantastic said:so where's the proof that ps3's launch will suck? besides "ps2's launch sucked so ps3's will too" :lol
Jewbacca said:The Ps2 launch itself was quite bad if I remember correctly... the only thing that really wowed me. Was... SSX and Tekken Tag... otherwise it was all mediocre or crap... everything else released had a counterpart that was looking pretty damn good on the current rival system... the PS2 didnt really pick up gaming wise till 2 or 3 months after launch..
360's launch is quite nice if you actually go to a store and see how many titles are available... I was like holy poopysex.
Doa4
Condemned
Nba2k6
Live 06
Madden 06
Fifa 06
Amped 3
Gun
KingKong
PGR
Perfect Dark
Kameo
Call of Duty
Need for speed Most wanted
Ridge Racer 6
I may have missed a few but that looks like a pretty damn solid launch... Almost as solid as the Dreamcast launch. (Dreamcast had more gems)

SolidSnakex said:The PS2 launch was nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be. The bad part of early on in the PS2 was the short time after the long which was really slow and then it picked up mid 2001 and hasn't let up since.
Ryudo said:As far as the PS2 goes it was awful, i guess the saving grace was that the machine was also a DVD player which was extremely expensive at the time.
Kleegamefan said:PS3 will probably have a good launch line up followed up by nothing that special for the next 9 months after launch.....
Year 2 and 3 of PLAYSTATION 3 is when things will *really* pick up though.....PlayStation products always start out slow, gamewise, and then get big sales boosts from great 2nd and 3rd generation games...
It happened to the PS1 and PS2....it is happing to the PSP now and it will happen to PS3...
I expect 2007 will be the first knockout year for PS3 games![]()
No, because it's first and foremost a gaming console, if it does not have games it has no need to exist. Sony would save themselves a lot of money by putting out standalone Blu Ray players instead (assuming your scenario of the PS3 being worthless for games potential was actually true.)monkeymagic said:But will the fact that it will be one of the first (if not the only) sub $400 HD movie players be its saving grace?
Back then, not many people had DVD players (I was among them) - so it was worth mentioning from a marketing standpoint. The XBox has DVD playback too, but you have to actually buy a playback package to make it work... but at the end of the day they can both be used as DVD players. It's just that the PS2 did it out of the box.I'm looking at the PS2 launches (Japan and US) which were pretty sparse but the DVD playback was a big feature which got mentioned a lot in the press as a reason to buy.
Ooh wow. And with the PS3 launch there will be a lot of games too. You realize PS3 is at least a year away for a US and European market. Now looking at the X360 launch, there is nothing but the games to focus on (since DVD players are ubiquitous now) and there seems to be a mixed reaction in the press which I wasn't expecting for a next gen piece of hardware especially considering MS' marketing muscle.
No. Blu-Ray isn't going to take off like DVD did, not right away. It'll be a selling point, but not a major reason to buy the console IMO. And even if it is, so what? There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Are we going to be seeing more mentions of Blu-Ray than games when the PS3 launches? I'm beginning to think so.
