The most worthless major FW Update I've ever seen from Sony. Why even bother with a shit update like this full of features I never heard anyone ask for?
What about universal downsampling option for Pro owners? What about webVR for their shitty browser? What about an improved media player that gives us the option to play side by side stereoscopic VR videos? What about a fix for the drifting issue in cinema mode for PSVR? What about the ability to change our usernames? These are features people asked for, not this crap lol.

I got into the US beta. Time to download and see.
Several of those GTA updates have been out for awhile I believe.
I know where you getting at, I'm just saying those things aren't in the majorities lists of things they want. But the more things the merrier no?
People talk about the free space when downloading thing all the time. A few examples from this very forum:
PS4 keeps telling me I don't have enough space for downloads, yet I do.
PS4 "Cannot Download" error due to storage; have 20GB free
PS4 "cannot download" glitch?
Has this PS4 "not enough free space" been addressed?
The PS4 needs to be more upfront about download size
PS4 low system storage error when installing games?

There must be some stealth goodness in this update or maybe in a future beta of 5.0. No way they would make this a 5.0 with the current features. Otherwise this sounds more like a .5 update.

Yes. If you haven't played those in awhile it hadn't checked for updates. Betas always triggered those downloads for games I hadn't touched in awhile.
So I downloaded and installed the update, and when it turned back on and said beta firmware 5.0 and then and error. It restarts to the same error and I can't get out of this loop.
Is there any way to revert back or can I do anything in safe mode? I don't want to fuck anything up here.

Just to echo what everyone is saying it indeed does not feel substantial. Sure I appreciate additions to the quick menu, ability to finally create/group friend lists without notifying friends and of coure the return of black notification but come on there's gotta be something Sony is hiding. This is a 5.0 update but barely feels it.

My PS4 got stuck during the install of the beta, had to do a hard reset. Now it's taking its sweet time rebooting.

None of those are new, either you hadn't played them in a while or you had the usual glitch of games not updating automatically like they should all the time. It's probably the later, or possible that those "automatic updates" are now more automatic lol.

Stuck again. I can't speak on how this will work for anyone else, but I can't install the beta! I've got a US launch-era PS4. It says it's trying to install beta 3.
Looks like I didn't get in the beta and they only sent 1 code to US users...
lol. But it's possible they addded some caching so it doesn't have to load the whole info of every icon when you navigate the menu

easy to cherry pick one video. but there are random hitches now and then makes me think of when i have a slightly outdated phone and update the OS and you start noticing random lag. also you can't tell me that it doesn't often run like ass when a game is running. although that may be a game specific issue. i often experience it with COD games
I recall others saying Infinite Warfare would bog the OS down, but I don't have it so can't say. Of all the games I have on the system at the moment, none of them have any impact on the OS speed.
The only issue I encountered was the quick menu appearing slowly when the Share button was set to "easy screenshots mode".
Maybe having an SSD helps in my case.

My trophies seemed to sync a little faster. I had a bunch from the PS3 that had synced yet. The icons old a lot faster as well.

Have US codes gone out yet? I got a Twitter notification from PlayStation talking about the beta.
Yeah, I got a fucking Samsung Pro 1TB SSD in my Pro and there is no way in hell I am using a beta of the firmware lol.
Supersampling is not boring in any way possible.
I don't see how many of the features people actually request are as boring as notification's color change or the clock in the quick menu

How about PiP oovoo video chat.
A discord system integrated app.
Some stuff that can actually elevate the system. Idk maybe it's just me but y'all just seem nitpicky af.

OH MY GOD, THEY FINALLY ADDED A CLOCK TO THE QUICK MENU!
Speak for yourself, the notification color change is something I've wanted since they switched it to white. I hated the white notifications.
