My PS4, ordered from amazon, has arrived at my house, but it's technically my birthday present so I won't get it until mid December. Hearing all of these reports about defective consoles, should I test out my console briefly just to make sure it works properly? What do you guys think?

test now
Quick question sorry if it has been answered but where do I check the manufactured date?

I'd ask that everyone having issues getting video from the PS4 please try multiple HDMI cables, I have a feeling the one that came with the PS4 is going to be pretty hit-or-miss...
I believe I have a finicky PS button. It seems to trigger even when I'm nowhere near it. For some reason it happens more when not in game, just in the main OS. Moving around and it'll go back to the main game tile automatically. Started weird, got annoying.
Hmm.

Bricked PS4 owners post the location your PS4 was manufactured and the month. I want to see if we could pin this down to just a bad batch. You could find the information on the back.
Yes. Don't think twice. Test it. You'll regret it if you don't and end up with a defective one.
hongfujin yantai china september 2013. Shipped from Amazon. I see a lot of people with that batch having problems.
I know that's what I'm thinking. So what should I test specifically? Just connect it and make sure it turns on properly and runs normally?

Well first I'd plug in the power and HDMI make sure you're getting signal. Then from there I'd update it because those two things are the big issues. Either they don't get signal or people update and bam it dies.
I was downloading an update for warframe, hit the PS button to try to go to friends list. My screen froze, sound went silent and the power button refuses to work..... What should I do?

You need to let it update without going to the UI, reset and try again it's not a real issue.
But how do I reset if the power button isn't working? Just unplug the AC cord?
Try holding the power button for ~10 seconds. It takes a bit.

Possible solution to getting a new replacement ps4 fast.

Choose standard refund, since you cant replace.
Order a PS4 with free shipping option.
Go to Help, contact support chat.
Tell them how your ps4 is defective and that you purchased a replacement.
Give them the order numbers.

This worked for me. Monday Delivery 4 free.
Mine was extremely loud for the first few hours of play (not even continuous play) but for some reason after that it settled down. I can still hear it, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was.I'm reading a lot of posters in other threads saying they are happy with how quiet the system is. Mine is silent for about an hour of play, but once the fan kicks in, it is really loud - louder than the ps3 slim by a good margin. I've had no other issues (other than the network issues everyone is having) and just assumed it was normal, but hearing everyone post how quiet the system is has me wondering... Anyone else have a really loud fan?

That could be PSN dropping. For some reason mine does the exact same thing and it's usually followed by a PSN maintenance message.

See, that's not what I experienced. It was just as loud with no game in the drive.I thought the same thing but now think it was actually the blue ray drive. It makes a higher pitched sound than my PS3's one and if it is accessing the disk during a game, you hear a very fan like sound. The moment I quit the game (killzone), the noise just stopped suddenly.
GUYS I FOUND A POSSIBLE FIX
My ps4 went into standby mode once or twice with trial and error after 15x of trial and error. But I could not get back into it. So what I did was take out the harddrive turn on the ps4 turn it off put the harddrive back in and turn it on into safe mode and it worked.
Edit: I did the initialize ps4 and it worked and then 5 secs later when i was setting it up it blinked and now im back to the same problem.
Text looks like garbage on my PS4 in 1080p so much so I'm convinced its not actually set in 1080 like it says in the settings. Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Wow, 17 pages.
This makes me really nervous. I'm still a month away from getting my console here in Taiwan, so that gives them a bit more time to sort this shit out, but geez.
What's the perceived failure rate, thus far? How many people here have borked consoles that are completely dead?
Is this looking to be RRoD bad, or is it being blown out of proportion?

Do you have a Bravia TV by any chance?Text looks like garbage on my PS4 in 1080p so much so I'm convinced its not actually set in 1080 like it says in the settings. Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Im using HDMI to DVI and it doesn't let me choose resolution. ONLY 480p. WTF!
Yea, I've had no problems with my PS4 today. I've been using my own Amazon branded HDMI-to-DVI cable and it's working great.
Also using an Amazon branded Optical Digital cable for the audio and that works great too.
I highly recommend Amazon's branded A/V cables. My PS4 has been working non-stop since 1pm Est this afternoon. No issues on my end.
PSN was running fine earlier today. Of course night came and now millions of people are crashing their servers.
....................Every time I think of my broken PS4 I just wanna punch the nearest thing....I could be playing BF4 right now..
