I don't know if I am the only one but I am quite baffled Sony decided to go with "This is for the players" tagline for PS4. Players and gamers have 2 very different meanings. If it's not obvious players is already defined as someone who manipulates women for pleasure so it is quite disrespectful and I feel it will alienate female gamers. If I were Sony I'd change it to "This is for the gamers" to appeal to everyone and not just guys, and you know because it makes sense to say gamers.

Playstation. Players. Playing videogames.

I'm pretty sure 99% of female gamers didn't even think of that idea before you brought it up. I understand white knighting up to a point, but that's pretty ridiculous.

Instead of 'gaming', they like to use the word 'play' in all of their press conferences lately, so I imagine it had something to do with that. I don't think anyone thought much of it, tbh.

I know it makes sense to say players because we understand it but there will be people who don't and it's almost certainly going to be brought up by Kotaku or someone to capitalizee on the hype.

I get around 11mb/s when I am supposed to be getting 60. I don't know how some people are maxing out their connection.
The PSN speedtest shows 60d/10up. When I download direct from PSN store it seems pretty fast, but this background play as you download thing is extremely slow.

I'm pretty sure you're over-thinking this, I don't know anyone who has made this connection

Does PS4 support 4G/LTE?

Does DLC bought with US PS+ account crossover to UK PS+ account? More accurately - If I buy BF4 Premium with US PS+ account, will it work when I play it on my UK PS+?

Yeah, all my downloads were slow as hell until I gave up on the wireless and went with the cable. FIFA was going to take about 6-7 hours when I started it but shot right down, Killzone took 2 for all 39GB.

Yeah, just go into settings when logged into your US profile and make sure that your PS4 is set as your primary PS4. Then all profiles can access all that US content.

No. What would the point be, out of curiosity? I guess you could hotspot your phone if this was a need.
I don't have a real internet connection... I connect to Hotspot at all times... Sucks ass that PS4 can't handle handle 4g :( my 3g 10mbit connection disconnects all the time... My 4g never disconnects and it has a 100mbit connection.

Say I get a PS4 game from the web store and start downloading it to my PS4, do I need to keep myself signed in for it to continue/complete?

You can use your device as a mobile hotspot as long as the PS4 sees it as a Wi-Fi connection.

Yep l noticed that too, the air is cool.

Wonder how much power it's using. I just leave it on standby to charge the controller.

I don't really think much of the design of the console, the shape doesn't look good to me and the plastic makes it seam cheap and it isn't as small as people made out. Now it is in my TV stand though I don't really look at it, the X1 gives the impression of being more solid and I like the understated look of the front with the soft glowing white logo.

Yeh the look of it doesnt really 'bother me'. I have enough big black boxes of av gear that just sort of blend into my av shelving that the over all look doesnt factor into any buying decision, I just remember people saying how awesome it looked, when to me it kind of looks like a rectangular box some one stood on.

The plastics looked pretty cheap too, the whole thing was just pretty underwhelming to me from a quality stand point. The phat PS3 was really something with its chrome trim, touch panels and design, it looked and felt special, this thing just looks and feels like it isnt even in the same league. But again the looks arent what caught my attention, its just the over all feel of it.

Its the gaps between the chasis and ports that really caught me off, it just doesnt seem cohesive. You could easily bend any port there with a cable plugged in due to the gaps between the output port and the chasis itself. Like I mentioned, there was actually enough room there for the HDMI port to not only be seated at a fair angle but you would have still moved it about left and right up and down. That just seemed off to me.

Hesyney Im not sure where this console was built, it was actually a customers that had come back DOA. I dont know why or what error, it just happen to be the first time I had seen one out of the box so I was curious to have a look at it. The fact the HDMI port was on an angle might have been because maybe he was having HDMI issue with it and was being a bit heavy handed wriggling it about, but I honestly dont know.

I actually didnt mind the original Xbox because it was such a brick of a thing, it just felt sturdy. I thought it was quite ugly personally, I actually only liked the cune that gen, I thought the PS2 was pretty odd looking too. It just seems odd that after the PS3 being such a svelte looking machine that actually looked like an expensive bit of tech this one just seems so 'eh' to look at and feel.

Yeah I know, but will it recognize it as a 3g connection or 4g? My hotspot does both, but goes with 3g when the machine can't handle anything above it.

I am finding the network speeds to be pretty poor on the PS4.

The test is showing 35 \ 6mbit over wired ethernet.

I have a 75Mbit \ 18Mbit line and these are the speeds I achieve on PC without issue.

Seems an awful waste of bandwidth to me.

Anyone know what settings might effect this?

Not bad at all, considering you live in hysteria Sweden! The PS4 hype here has been fucking insane.

The PS4 will recognize it as a WiFi hotspot. It's up to your phone whether it's on 3G or 4G. The PS4 should have no trouble with a 100mbit connection.

It pings SEN for the speed. I'm assuming it hasn't settled down from the launches yet

A lot of UK retailers have been holding back stock purely to sell the big mega bundles and increase their margins. If the big bundles are still available in Sweden, I'm assuming they're doing the same.

This makes me laugh. I get 7 mb/s here in Australia. If I'm lucky. Be happy with what you got. :(

I'm not sure how to do quote to reveal, but Amazon gave me two £7 off codes for Knack and Killzone Shadowfall. Amazon UK so I don't know if they'll work on other stores

Killzone: Shadow Fall: RD46-ZS2HLR-292SY9
Knack: QVN9-34LHYA-TTCFJM

I already have Killzone and I'm not interested in Knack so first come first serve I guess

edit; Also, does anyone know if you can pause a download? I was downloading two things last night and they were both going simultaneously rather than one at a time, which mean it was really slow

Tried outputting game audio through the headphone jack on the controller first the first time last night, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I expected it to sound like crap, as my impression was that it was mostly intended for voice chat with game audio output as a bonus that probably wouldn't sound very good, but it turned out to be perfectly decent. Probably not audiophile quality (not sure what the audio bitrate actually is), but defintely acceptable. And it's really convenient to just plug your headphones into the controller instead of having to go through a receiver which might be some distance away.

Hey, does anyone know what kind of power cable the PS4 uses? I need to replace mine, but I don't know what replacement cable I can use without repercussions.

It uses the same exact one as the PS3...

...Slim. The plug is shaped like an "8". A power cable for a PS3 Phat won't work.

But what I'm really curious about is, if any of YOU guys have a "clicking" noise, which probably stems from the fan? It's only there, when the fan is at the medium level and not while loading a disc. It's mostly noticeable in the OS menu right when you have started the device - and no, I'm not talking about the "beep" sound while turning it on and off.

Mine clicks when turning on and off, like a relay switching. Haven't noticed any clicking while it's on.

The fan spins at standby (yellow light) too which was odd, is it the same for everyone else? Maybe I have too much features active for standby use, internet access and controller charhing etc?

Yeah, the fan keeps spinning in standby, there's a constant soft whirring coming from the console.

Ughhhhhhhh.

Went to turn on my PS4 and the light was shining on the glossy part, I noticed quite a few micro scratches on the top towards the front.

I haven't touched the gloss side with anything since opening so I'm guessing it's come out of the box like that.

oh.then ps3 can't even enjoy what vita and ps4 owners get. ps4 you can see them playing ps3 or vita games. vita you can see them playing ps3, ps4, or vita titles.
I was listening to Bombcast and neither console notifies you of friends' statuses. It seemed weird to me also until I remembered that the friend limit is 2000. I'm guessing the thought is that with 2000 friends your notifications would constantly be going off and getting annoying. Wonder if they'll add a setting for it back in for people who want to enable it.

  • How to pause downloads? No option. Did they just leave it out for now?
  • When you are playing games, should your PS4 light be white or blue? Mine is white.
  • How do you know if your chat is working? I put in my ear bud headset for chat but I don't get any indication of whether my chat is going through when playing COD. Also, you can't push the jack in all the way as it won't connect the headset properly, which is annoying.

Or give us folders to toss names in so we can sort it. And then give us option to allow it. Tbh right now I have like 200 or so friends but only around 60 online. Give me the option Sony. I don't care unless it crashes the system

1. Don't think you can, no.
2. Blue when booting, white when on, orange when in standby.
3. Not sure about COD, but with party chat you get an icon clearly indicating it. About the jack, have you tried pushing a bit harder? Mine easily goes in about 3/4 of the way, but then I have to use a bit more force to make it "snap" in the last bit. Then the connection is very tight and secure.

You are right about the snap, it does click in when you push harder.

Will see how it works now.

So I'm considering swapping out my Samsung 40' 3DTV for a LG 42'. Should I sacrifice the 3D for a TV thats 2' bigger or not? :)

I say depends on the model. If I had to guess, you're swapping out a 40fh6030 for a 42ln5400. I usually don't love LG picture quality (worse blacks than most competing brands), but the savings and the extra size (though minimal) would be great if you're not a picture quality nazi.
