I don't really think much of the design of the console, the shape doesn't look good to me and the plastic makes it seam cheap and it isn't as small as people made out. Now it is in my TV stand though I don't really look at it, the X1 gives the impression of being more solid and I like the understated look of the front with the soft glowing white logo.
Yeh the look of it doesnt really 'bother me'. I have enough big black boxes of av gear that just sort of blend into my av shelving that the over all look doesnt factor into any buying decision, I just remember people saying how awesome it looked, when to me it kind of looks like a rectangular box some one stood on.
The plastics looked pretty cheap too, the whole thing was just pretty underwhelming to me from a quality stand point. The phat PS3 was really something with its chrome trim, touch panels and design, it looked and felt special, this thing just looks and feels like it isnt even in the same league. But again the looks arent what caught my attention, its just the over all feel of it.
Its the gaps between the chasis and ports that really caught me off, it just doesnt seem cohesive. You could easily bend any port there with a cable plugged in due to the gaps between the output port and the chasis itself. Like I mentioned, there was actually enough room there for the HDMI port to not only be seated at a fair angle but you would have still moved it about left and right up and down. That just seemed off to me.
Hesyney Im not sure where this console was built, it was actually a customers that had come back DOA. I dont know why or what error, it just happen to be the first time I had seen one out of the box so I was curious to have a look at it. The fact the HDMI port was on an angle might have been because maybe he was having HDMI issue with it and was being a bit heavy handed wriggling it about, but I honestly dont know.
I actually didnt mind the original Xbox because it was such a brick of a thing, it just felt sturdy. I thought it was quite ugly personally, I actually only liked the cune that gen, I thought the PS2 was pretty odd looking too. It just seems odd that after the PS3 being such a svelte looking machine that actually looked like an expensive bit of tech this one just seems so 'eh' to look at and feel.
