Is it worth it getting a extended warranty in BestBuy? is very expensive and will probably be a waste, Sony offers 1 year right?

Can't link it due to firewall

But Sony offers 3 year accidental (read: drop it on the floor and they will replace) for $60 for 3 years

It seems like everywhere else in the country have these in stock except Saskatoon. I need one bad, the cat keeps chewing the USB cable if I accidentally leave it hanging off my tv stand.

Same, it was sold out at every Futureshop near me for weeks. Finally went in stock on monday so I pounced

US and Canada only :(

Oh well.

I will have to pay a lot of money to be covered, and Bestbuy dont even give you a new one on the spot anymore, they send it and after a few days give you a refurb or something.

So I received my ps4 today and i'm really happy about its performance. But after starting KZ, my ps4 (probably the BR drive) made some "cracking" noises. It was just for 10-20 seconds (it just began installation I think), but is that normal?
Played for 30 minutes now and it didn't come back, but i'm still worried and want to know if it's normal when the PS4 starts installation from BR. Don't have an other game on BR yet, so I can't test it.

Yeah, they're looking into it apparently - should be there - especially for PS+ users.

I've got the feeling that we're never going to see it happen. Changing psn names was one of the biggest blog posts back when that was relevant and they ignored it. A few months ago they said it was a very complex process which doesn't inspire any confidence.

Wow I just figured why the fuck my saves weren't auto uploading to PS+..

They ONLY upload when you manually LOG OUT your user, this does not include putting the system into standby or turning the system off if you have "Log In PS4 Automatically" enabled!!

Any tips on censoring the Twitch/live video application? I noticed you can parental control with numbers, but I don't know what number level this application is rated.

I have relatives getting ps4's for kids, and I would like to be able to give them a way to avoid late night playroom clowns.

Reposting this in here for people with HDCP issues:

Holy crap!! I think I've just solved my monitor issue! I haven't been able to play in HD on my 1050p monitor since launch because I've been having some sort of HDCP issue. I could play on my plasma but the ghosting is nauseating. So what I did was get an HDMI splitter from Amazon, plug my PS4 into my 1080i LED display at 1080i, disconnect the PS4 from the LED and then plug it directly into the splitter which is already connected to the monitor, then simply change the resolution to 720p! If this works every time then maybe I can go through the process again but with my 1080p plasma so I can get full HD support! But the monitor is only 1050p so I'm not sure if it'll downscale or not.

Either way, I'm happy as heck. I'll take 720p and no ghosting over a sloppy 1080p experience any day.

This isn't true. They do upload when I log out, but even when I don't, they upload at 4am every night while the PS4 is in standby with no previous logging out done.

Yea PSN is down or something
The wild and wacky thing about when PSN is down is that Remote Play is down, too. I get why they are interconnected, but I'd rather be able to connect to my PS4 without Sony sitting in the middle of that connection.
fyi,

Picked this charger up tonight and it is fantastic (er as fantastic as a charger can be,,,,,)

Put the controller on, simple push and it automatically clicks into place. Can't comment verses the official one as I have yet to see it but well worth the $30 I paid
I second this charger. I picked it up last week and it's already paid for itself. As Dunlop says, the charging mechanism is spring-loaded. Which is also nice for when the controller is done charging, as you can press down on it and it pops off the charging port.

I said I figured out why my saves weren't auto-uploading, this issue isn't affecting everyone.

I have finally played a PS4 twice now, with fifa 14 and cod ghosts

  • I like the controller, obviously it feels different because i have been using the DS3 but I can already tell after a few play sessions it will be far better than the DS3 and nearly up there with the 360 pad.
  • Graphics are really nice, not a jaggie in sight on both games
  • interface is fast and nice

You do realize that remote play is tied to a PSN account and not a system right?

Not sure how else you make remote access access across multitudes of firewalls, routers and NATs without using PSN to initiate the connection (Vita pings PSN, PSN sends wake up packet to PS4 to turn on and ready remote access, PS4/PSN relays public IP address to Vita, Vita tries connecting to PS4 using the given IP address.

I don't see any alternative the the Vita would have for finding the PS4 via Internet without using PSN? It's not gonna ping every public ip address and it can't rely on storing the last known public address the PS4 was connected on as +90% of consumer-level Internet is dynamically assigned a public ip address that can switch at any time.

This is really annoying and in the future Sony should allow us to do manual update. But IIRC, you have to turn on auto-update then go to notifications > download and you should see the add-ons in there.

Yea that didn't work. Auto update was already turned on, and nothing was there. I had to re enter all the codes, and it let me download it that way. I don't know if that's because the codes are not expiring correctly(heads up people!) or the code is now attached to my account. Obviously this could be tested with someone else.

Supposedly the "library" is supposed to act like a download list. But when I went to that, it showed my addons, but when I tried to select them if said "content cannot be accessed at this time." If I had thrown away my codes I don't know what I would of done

Got a PS4 today! The Wal-Mart about an hour away got a large shipment and I was able to snag one. It looks like this was the big push before Christmas. Loving Resogun so far, looking forward to hopping into Contrast and Assassin's Creed 4 later this week.

A friend of mine got his PS4 Killzone bundle yesterday. It didn't work.
Doesn't boot up, you just hear the drive running and see the blue light flashing, but he gets not picture - at all. We already checked the HDMI Pins, they look alright. Anything else we can do? Or was it delivered broken?

Edit: We'll try to change the HDD, but I guess that won't help..

Finally got my KZ megabundle 1 1/2 hours ago and the user experience sucks so far.
The initial setup took some loading and waiting and the firmware update took two tries to download.. After that, I wanted to play KZ but there is an update which I don't want to skip so I download it.
I think to myself that I can do something while I download the patch and visit the PSN store to queue up all my other games in the download list. Now why the fuck does the PS4 download 4 items at the same time slowing down my KZ patch? Why can't I pause certain downloads? Also, the KZ patch download already got aborted once.

I know I can still just play right away but in times of day 1 patches with big performance gains I want to start a game in its best state.

I found the setup of the ps4 way easier and consumer friendly than either the wii u or the xboxone. It took soooooooo long at the launch of the wii u to update and the xboxone is a game of nerves as you dont know if its updating or not as it just sits there on a screen.

We've come a long way baby.

I remember when realtime 'target' and CG Ghost Recon stuff like this and this really impressed me back in '05.

Battlefield 4 literally blows that away, no pun intended.

So I am looking for an HDMI switch which has an ir remote and will work for a PS4, TV and Xbox One. I picked up ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B46XUQU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It does not seem to work. Cable does nothing, my Xbox One screen is all screwd up and green, and my PS4 is messed up and flickers! I do not have a power adapter, so I do not know if that is it.

Rather than mucking with it, unless we think the power adapter will work, does anyone have a suggestion on a product?

I am so mad my crappy old receiver has no HDMI passthrough!

[/SPOILER]

It sounds like it's not switching at all - a similar thing happened to me but with a SCART joiner when I had a DVD and Wii both switched on.

Random question, the $10 redeem code that comes with every PS4 will automatically go to the region of your account right?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a US account but I bought my PS4 in Canada.

I use the same one. You need a 3.5mm DC 5 adapter to get it to work with the PS4, though the thing should work just fine with only the Xbox. Make sure the PS4 HDMI cable isn't connected to the switcher when testing it out. If not, you may just have to replace it.

Checked out the local Sony store earlier today. There was like literally nothing to indicate the PS4 was for sale. You had to go in and either ask, or notice the new controllers and games in their display case.

We have the blue and red controllers, but I didn't see the stand nor the charging dock.

If you pre-ordered though, if you were the first 30 in line, you get a PSVita TV free. If you were the next 30, you get 10 years of PS+ free. Next 100 got something too but i forgot.

Still waiting for feedback on local servers though. Got burned by Blops 2 so bad.

Edit: Live in Singapore

10 years PS+?? Holy shit, I'd have traded my place in line to get this instead of a VitaTV ;)

Killzone monster pack is finally on its way, YES!
please don't be a dud

Absolutely. As I stated, I do understand the interconnection. As an IT Professional, there's more efficient ways of handling the remote experience than having Sony sit in the middle of the connection.

*smh* just found out that UPS left my kz:sf bundle in front of my apartment. tracking site says "received and signed for by: V D T", which presumably stands for "at the door". pretty shitty service imo...

I'm not sure this is the place to ask, but how does NBA 2K14 treat new players? After finishing Black Flag and completing a lot of the side quests along the way, I find very little to do in that game that keeps my interest. The DLC that just came out doesn't really interest me either.
Trading-in the game for 2K14 would lower the price of admission by a hefty sum of 43€. I've never actually followed the sport, and I don't really have much prior experience with any basketball games, though I got 2K13 for PS3 through PS+.

I really wish 2K14 had a demo.

As an IT professional it should be obvious that Sony uses your PSN ID for discovery and security. They don't actually act as a relay during gameplay.

How am I not being clear? Sony is still acting as a middle man to initiate the connection. Give me the ability to handle the gory technical details, if need be, so I can bypass Sony's servers for any purposes.
