PS4/Xbox One Features that still need clarification?

I don't want to have to hunt down the free playstation plus games each month and download them before they are added to my account. They should automatically be added with no effort on my part.

You can do that from the Sony store through your browser, just put the free games in your basket, and go through the checkout. they are then in your download list ready for when you want to download them.

When the PSN companion app is released for phones and tablets I'm assuming you will be able to do the same.

The only question I really need answered is whether or not I can change my PSN name.

It's ridiculous we don't have an answer on that yet.

Xbox One

  • Can I use Xbox Music for custom soundtracks like I can with Music Unlimited?

They've confirmed you can use it in Snap Mode, no reason why it shouldn't also be able to run in the background while playing a game fullscreen.

I would also like to know if the existing apps for PS3, chrunchyroll especially, are coming.
Crunchyroll was announced during the initial reveal event.

What is the lag like on XB1 HDMI passthrough?
Anything about DLNA support (though I'm holding no hope for MKV ):
How effective is the HDMI-CEC? Can I change inputs on both my amp and TV's HDMI ports with Kinect?

See, I don't want to have to manually add them and that is what you suggest I do. I don't want to have to do anything to have them added to my account.

My tv doesnt support 1080p. Just 720p or 1080i.

So either the ps4 downscales the 1080p game to my tvs resolution or I will have to play native 720p with all the extra aliasing till I save enoough for a new tv.

Really? Ouch. How old/cheap is it?

Anyway, I doubt the PS4 will output 1080p only. If the PS3 did it, I don't see why the PS4 shouldn't.

I hope you're right, but there have been indications, such as the Polygon article, that it won't work in background mode, at least at launch.

I want a thorough rundown on all of the new features of PSN on the connectivity/playing with friends side of it.

I'd specifically like to know more about...

- download speeds
- number of party chat members
- channel switching in party chat
- party invites within games and across other games
- voice quality of the packed in headset

PS4 - Everything about the optional camera. It's almost as if before it's even released it's been sent out to die. Not that I mind as I'm not sure if I would actually get one or not but damn. Not a shred of info on it other than a tech demo.

Initially the paid-only service will have limited use. Music won't, for instance, be able to play in the background while a person is playing a game. Instead, if someone wants to listen to songs from Xbox Music they will have to run it in snap mode, which takes up some of the side of the screen, and manually turn down a game's audio in the game's options.

Wow it sounds like they're really rushing both these systems out before the OS/software side is fully baked. PS4 with post-launch updates for accessories and Xbox One missing things you'd figure would be there from the start like custom soundtrack support.

I'd like to know if music playback on PS4 will have a visualizer feature, where it will render animated graphics that react according to the music being played.

2 big ones for Sony:

Gaikai - Pretty much everything about it

PSN I.Ds - Can we fucking change them this time or not??

I guess my biggest questions are,

What will be the most widely used resolution and graphical settings?
Will PSN still have slow downloads and not work as well as XBL?
How will the interface work on both consoles?

For all of the hype that Sony has managed to generate about the PS4 it's remarkable how little we know.

I'm not really interested in the XB1 right now, some good questions raised in this thread. Great idea OP.

I do agree that it would be more user friendly if the IGC just automatically added to your download list every month, I guess the only problem with that is the user may end up having a list a mile long with a bunch of games the user has no interest in.

Maybe the option to add IGC games to ones download list automatically would be a good call.

Thanks. While I do like having a surprise, it's bothering me how little we know about these systems.

I remember before I got my PS3, I would watch videos of people going through the XMB for hours. Little things like that are so fascinating to me.

If someone can help me search Twitter, I can find the post where I asked Shuhei Yoshida about linking PSN accounts to our controllers.

I'm also wondering about playing your own music in your PS4 games.
Its a feature that I used often when I played X360. So I was sad when so few developers included the option in PS3 games.

* I want to see how voice controls work on PS4 and will they work at launch. I'm not all that interested, but Sony said you could use voice controls and that's all we've heard.

* What's the launch date for colored PS4 controllers in the US? All we know is before the end of the year.

* What's the PS4 store look like?

They've talked plenty about how the PS4 is always recording 15 minutes of gameplay, but I'm wondering if we can just completely disable that.

I'm assuming it's constantly writing to the HDD, but I doubt I'll ever even hit that Share button, and this would be terrible for an SSD if I decided to stick one in there.

Xbox One TV Guide info for Canada, or just greater detail about what features are actually available, and what I can do with it... I fully intend to plug my bell receiver into the thing but have no idea if it'll actually be worth doing so.

i wanted to know about this too. how intuitive it is and if it rivals the current setup on 360. I would really love some lengthy UI videos of the PS4. when are news outlets and gaming sites getting their hand on the systems? seeing as Sony isn't putting out the videos themselves

Same here. It's a feature I use all the time on the 360.

Yeah, I want clarification on whether I'll be able to change my PSN ID or adopt a screen name. One of the demo videos I saw showed a field called "screen name" which would SEEM to indicate this ability but then again, Japanese PSN users can do this NOW while no one else can, so that's not a given. I sure hope it's at least on par with how Xbox Live handles such things now!

Custom soundtracks

+1. I know a handful of PS3 games supported this (GT5). I hope it becomes a standard next gen. MS knew what was up when it came to this feature, but the 360 did have more RAM so I guess i kinda understand why.

They confirmed that you can use Music Unlimited in-game so custom soundtracks wouldn't surprise me.

this is something I want to know as well. you would think someone would have asked sony by now especially considering a number of editors have complained about the lack of the feature this gen on podcasts.

Xbox One - Music CD playback
Made a thread about it and searched the net for info but nobody seem to know anything about it, we know WiiU and PS4 won't manage but XB1 is still a mystery, the silence makes me worried though.

You need to upgrade. But either way, you'll have the option to send a 1080p, 1080i, 720p, or 480p signal to your TV. So it doesn't matter.
