No, they wont go that far. They'd say something like, 'we were undecided but ultimately the outcry from the gamer community convinced us to do what's in the interest of gamers' or whatever.
They aren't mentioning the campaign but Mortimer does get a mention:

It is a great thing, but again people keep thinking that it completely is in their hands.
The tweet today could be a good sign, but if it is up to third parties I think people are really forgetting what it was like in the early life cycle of the PS3 when the third parties were not coming on board.
Some people keep thinking that it is black and white, and Sony says no DRM and the sky will sing and the the devs will flock and all will be happy. People need to set realistic expectations.
There would be wildfire of bad PR for Sony if they did this and then announced similar-to-the-Xbone anti-consumer systems for PS4. "Leave it up to the developers/publishers" is basically the same thing because who is gonna turn down more money?

I wouldn't say it's the same thing, leaving it up to the developers means you can boycott specific developers.
As I said before, I don't see some of the smaller niche devs doing any of this. Bigger ones like EA probably would.
So I just wouldn't buy their games (and this my AAA purchases would go down) but I am perfectly fine with.

No, that wouldn't be smart. That would imply you could buy used games at stores although you need PS Plus to play them, that's stupid.
You can bet that the medium-size dev/pub houses (Capcom, Sega, etc.) are going the DRM route. They already couldn't give a fuck about their fans.

I said earlier that leaving it to publishers is the best we can hope for and if that's the alternative to what MS is doing then i'm ok with it because I doubt the majority of publishers will do it. I can see EA and Ubisoft do it but if they do I'll just put the money I would have put on their games on someone else game.
They said 'leave it up to publishers' this gen when it came down to region locking games and every other console was doing it natively. Surprisingly 99% of games are region free.

I honestly feel them leaving it up to publishers would be the ultimate cop out from Sony. They have nothing to lose by going DRM free , not one single publisher would pull games from their system , so explain to me why we should give them a free pass to just shrug and give it " not my fault".
Boycotting publishers using it is not the answer when Sony have the power to not put owners of their system in the position of having to choose between missing out on potential big games or putting up with shitty DRM.

I would think this would be the case. For example Activision doesn't even have online passes so I doubt they'd try to work out some sort of a system for blocking used games. EA might, sure, but then they have to go and try to get the shops to carry their games. Basically the power to negotiate is diminished as the publishers would all be fighting their own battles as opposed to getting the platform holder to do that for them.
Haha maybe go ask in the Sony E3 conference thread. Those guys there are pretty talented.

While I agree it's not the ideal outcome, it's certainly the most plausible one at this juncture. We know that used game DRM has been considered and probably a topic that's been brought up before with third party publishers.
If Sony does go this route, I honestly think that some of the smaller publishers and possibly Activision (given their stance on online passes) will decide to not employ the DRM, in an effort of good will.
now, this is what I was warning against: People expecting the PS4 to go completely DRM free.
This will not happen. It will have something similar to the PS3, it will be up to the developers how they want to implement THEIR DRM (not Sonys) on physical products. Digital content will ALL have DRM since it will be bound to the user account.
I sure hope people will not act like children expecting an iPhone 5 for Christmas and then not getting it when this will be revealed.
