Can some kind Japan-gaf make a message for this also so we can spread the word to our Japanese peers!![]()
Steam pricing is cheaper. Come on.Steam is completely comparable, all major releases can be anywhere from $50-$60...$40 for games released months after console release. $5 to $10 only happens during sales.
Many many PC games are steamworks or origin based even physical copies require you to enter a Steam key.
I dunno this whole thing seems a little blown out of proportion, but whatever. Im a minority when it comes to this. I think given Sony's track record with Greatest Hits titles, mega collections, and PS+ prices, steam level sales could be a very real thing. Why buy a used game when PSN sale has it for cheaper?
EDIT: Im fairly certain XB1 and Sony are just trying to copy Steam.... prerelease piracy drops, devs get a cut of every sale without middlemen, games are cheaper for consumers... everyone is happy

Except the lack of modding.
And the lack of communities that thrive on modding.
And the lack of low prices.
And the lack of control choices.
And the lack of customizable graphics.
And the lack of free online gaming.
And the lack of being able to download demos day one if you don't pay for online gaming.
But other than all of that IT'S JUST LIKE STEAM so why y'all actin' like y'all got a shaft in the aft?
I do not understand why some people assume that used games are bad for the industry. It's totally mind boggling.
It's not that used games are inherently bad for the industry. It's that major game publishers have made such poor financial decisions in the past 8 years, based on an unsustainable business model, that they have now painted themselves into a corner.
After most publishers suffered record losses, instead of owning up to the blame and changing their business models, they petitioned the console manufacturers to help them stay afloat by implementing technology to lock down used games. It's a desperate response that isn't even a solution to the real problem; that being severely bloated game budgets. Those publishers need to all be supporting a paradigm shift in game development, instead of betraying their customers good will.
I have a lot of problems with the Xbox One. However, the one that seriously seems to be overlooked, is the hard drive space. I have a ton of games for my 360. If I had to install all of them on a hard drive, I would have to have a fuckton on hard drive space. 500 GB is going to fill up real fast. Couple that with the always on Kinect and the used game debacle; I am just out of this generation. Sony might be able to convince me if they don't pull the bullshit that Microsoft pulled but either way, I am sticking to PC gaming only. I trade my console games with my friends; I don't do the same with my PC games.

By far the bigger issue in the 'it's just like Steam' debate, is that of expectations.
Steam was the way Steam was from the very beginning with regard to DRM.
Expectations around how physical discs will behave have been established over 15+ years on Playstation, and further back on Nintendo/Sega etc.
Why change the game in the Autumn of the physical disc's life? It looks extremely conservative if not slightly desperate from whatever stakeholders are pushing for this. Transition consumers to digital and new models gracefully, with carrots like PS+, not with sticks. Let it be voluntary and natural. Don't try to apply digital rules to physical after the fact.

Spot on, in a closed system I expect the media to be my authentication. Anything else is unacceptable. I felt the same way about PC digital until prices came down and Steam had competition.Expectations around how physical discs will behave have been established over 15+ years on Playstation, and further back on Nintendo/Sega etc.
