PS5 price to rise in Europe, Australia and New Zealand

So in 2025, PS5 Digital costs 100€ more than it did in 2020, or the same the PS5 with disc drive on it's release.

Lol and people mostly only talk about PC gaming prices lately, but things seem way better vs consoles than 4-5 years ago.

Considering very strange choices with SKUs and regions I think Sony is trying to offset the tariffs as mildly as possible on a global scale.

And mark my words, they are just the front runners here.
My money is on this.

This is also why I think if you want a piece of hardware you should get it today because the price will never get cheaper.

To be fair there was massive inflation between 2020 and now. I'm not justifying the full increase, just that some type of increase was inevitable.

You'd think inflation increases would be offset by the decrease of the manufacturing costs considering the PS5's hardware is from 2018.
If modern hardware costs are really that impossible to bring down compared to how it was in previous gens then Sony and Microsoft better completely rethink how they'll go about the next gen.

Ps6 is going to cost a minimum of 599 but my bet is 699... same price as the pro
The PS5's APU is from 2018 and they're increasing prices in 2025, unless there's some kind of breakthrough that makes manufacturing costs fall off a cliff at this point I'll be surprised if they manage to have a PS6 cost just 700$.
Unless they simply keep the TFLOPs the same but go all in on AI tech to give them the necessary generational leap that they can't get by fully upgrading the hardware without costs jumping through the roof.
Kinda like they did with the Pro, CPU is the same, GPU is mostly the same just a bit more juiced up and with AI cores injected into it. But I don't even want to think about such a scenario tbh, it sounds lame as fuck...

Honestly I don't care how they get there, I don't care if it's the Keebler elves under the hood giving me 4k/120fps w/path tracing, if it looks good and it works it's all good.

Likely a GTA6 tax targeting regions where there is no alternative in the retail pipeline with Xbox.

The tax could potentially cover some of the tariff costs in the US and/or it could be used to eat the cost of price reductions on a Japanese region-locked SKU matching Nintendo.

It's very odd that Sony is still selling the Astro Bot PS5 Digital bundle in the US at 400 while increasing the price of the PS5 in regions across the world. I wonder how long that will continue for.

It's also possible that the price increase was in response to the Switch 2 pricing.

It seems with the decrease in pricing of the PS5 disc drive that they're probably looking to make the PS5 Pro a more enticing purchase and in turn probably increase the sales margins across the board and push games that support PS5 Pro enhancements more to further encourage more developers to support it.

If I had to guess that's probably the primary reason, lagging PS5 Pro sales in Europe.

Digital only for EU while decreasing the drive price? Interesting, huh.

For most of the world except Kiwis and Ozzies the hike is for DE only. All while reducing the bd drive price.

Very odd to say the least.

I think this means Sony was making an ample profit on the drive but decided to be nice to help offset the price increase.

It may seem silly because why not just arrive at the same total sale, but not everyone who buys a DE will get a drive for it.

So, the euro gets even strong than the dollar, and Sony decides that our prices should be raised? What the fuck????
Playstation completely dominates in Europe whereas in the US Xbox still has a bit of marketshare although we know it has gone terribly wrong this gen. So Sony probably thinks it's safer to increase EU prices where people are less likely to buy an Xbox and the stronger euro also further helps them in eating the money they'll lose in the US due to the tariffs.
