On a more series note, though. Anyone have any good theories as to why Series X is not up to par on average with PS5? I seriously thought Series X would have the slight edge overall, but so far PS5 is killing it.

I mean, outside of the "tools" argument, what's potential reasoning? PS5 have some form of infinity cache?

Probably multiple factors, I think everybody is searching for every reason apart from maybe PS5 is more performant in real world scenarios.

Can be a lot of things. Of course the tools meme is funny, but honestly, imagine the current situation. New console launches, all development projects are fucked up because of covid-19, everything is late and comes in hot.
When a dev team needs to develop a game for:
PS4
PS4 Pro
Xbox Ones +S
One X
Series X
Series S
PS5
AND all PC configurations

There's no time to learn new ways to get the most out of every hardware at hand. When one console is easier to work with, it will show.
But there will be a lot of other hardware relates reasons as well. It all adds up.

True, but it does seem really bizarre for developers not being on the same level as PS5 on the "tools and understanding" front. It really seemed everything was going smoothly for Xbox considering how Microsoft was showing off Series X so early with all the improvements to games like Gears 5. I do expect the kinks to be ironed out in terms of visuals but still...

I get all this stuff for sure. I'm just surprised considering Series X extra shaders are not not making the impact at higher resolutions as I expected. Granted, DMC seems to be the outlier. I guess higher GPU clocks are having a greater impact overall? Looking forward to the next round of multi-platforms.

Also, devs may be looking at market share. If you have limited time, best to spend more time on the platform more people will be playing your game on.

It will always depend on where games run into their bottlenecks. like if a dev made a game that reach PS5 compute limits & it keep making PS5 slow down Xbox Series X is going to have the advantage. But most games do not over use compute so you will see more games hitting the pixel , triangle & cache walls more.

I’m telling they whole year PS5 has less bottlenecks and the first years games will have better performance on PS5.

Maybe late generation games can have a Xbox advantage.

It is like iPhone and Android.
Android has way more hardware in CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.
iPhone perform better.

It has a smaller fillrate, when you need to draw 4k 120a second it probably matters.
