PS5 will support all kind of Nvme M.2 SSDs from type 2230 to 2280 ( maybe 22110?? )

This is getting silly, its no different than the OG PS4.

1. Pop off the plastic cover.

2. Unscrew the screw to access the expandable storage bay.

3. Put in expandable storage.

4. Close bay with screw.

5. Place the cover back on.

If anything it's easier since it's adding storage rather than replacing storage. With the PS4 you need to replace the system software and everything else as part of the process. The PS5 process is arguably a far easier process for the average idiot.

What electronic device has a NVME M.2 slot on the outside of a system? *Roll eyes*.
Its about as "Outside" as it possibly can be since all you do is snap the cover off and its right there.

Imagine how difficult it would have been to mould some plastic to house a nvme... Jesus wept 😂

This is not an "SD," this is a SSD. SDs pale in speed compared to an SSD. Most who add storage, do it once in a lifetime of the machine. I think MS is banking on whales purchasing multiple, personally.

You can use external drives on both for BC or 1.5 minute transfers.

Stick it in a piece of plastic, then slot it in. Devices have been doing it since forever. The second you have to take something apart it becomes a ball ache and won't get used by the vast majority.

Bingo, hence we need not any proprietary with that method ;)

I'm gonna ask a really stupid question.

OK. I do not know how and I also do not want to open up my ps5 myself to plug in the extra ssd.

I'm hoping that there's some external ssd available that I can just plug into the ps5 without having to open it up. Does such a thing exist?

no.
USB3.1 isn't fast enough. you need to insert an internal SSD in order to play PS5 games.
you also should wait until Sony has a list of tested drives before buying one.

you can however play PS4 games off of an external USB drive (at least that's what it seems like)

Thanks. I'll probably have to lug the ps5 to a shop and get someone to install the ssd for me.

I might grow some muscles after that.

The same can be said about memory RAM, GPU, etc in any PC.
That is not the goal of the DDR, GPU, etc format.
Neither the M.2.

It is suppose to be inside the case like any other PC component.

Or transfer back and forth if you don't mind a 1.5 minute or so wait time.

well, going by transfer speeds on the Series X, which also uses USB3.1, from an external SSD to the internal SSD will take you about 3min for big games (60+GB)
using an HDD this will at least triple, so closer to 9min to 10min.

still faster than downloading the games or reinstalling them from the Disc. so it is an alternative
