PS5/XsX lineup seems like what we were gonna get late-gen PS4/X1 anyway

Some Squeenix stuff. Some new moba-fighting stuff. Some Rocket League spinoff. Some Sackboy game. Some Halo game.

It all looks cool, but none of it looks next-gen beyond the texture and particle fidelity. Seems like instead of giving us another solid year or two of games on these existing systems, both Sony and Microsoft are pushing into next-gen because.... the hardware is just too weak to show off our creative visions.

Yeah, well, those creative visions looks like standard 2018 games in 4k with better LoD.

In my opinion, this is doubly true when you consider we got a mid-gen refresh to "keep up" with technological advances.

Lest we forget:

- God of War 1 and 2 were in 2005 and 2007 respectively
- Persona 3 and 4 were at the end of the PS2's life, too
- Guilty Gear Xrd, Persona 5, Titanfall, and Metal Gear Solid V all had PS3/360 versions (where applicable). Persona 5 launched nine years after the PS3 first launched.

Blessings and hi-scores to all you folks thrilled to be there Day One, but I can't help but feel that my hopes for a solid outro this generation are going to be dashed.

Unless there's some real game changer in the next few months, I'm pretty sure I'll enter next-gen rather later than sooner.

U5 tech demo was impressive, and while there were one or two titles that can be compared to it, most of the stuff didn't have that truly next-gen feeling.

Yesterday's show showed me, above all, that my PS4 will be alive and kicking for more than a year and a half at least.

True, but PS5 line-up was way better than Xbox Series X

That's amazing considering we know of 1 game from each first party hitting their machines day 1.

Halo Infinite(a cross gen game) VS Spiderman : Miles Morales (a remaster with new content.)

But hey, keep trying.

What line up? They only showed some third party so far and nothing from first party studios. The lineups can't really be compared until XSX does their first party show.

Several of the PS5 show games are also coming to XSX.

I'm day one for both. Exclusives only for PlayStation 5. Exclusives and multi-platform games for Xbox Series X. As of now, im expecting the following at launch combined -

- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Cyberpunk 2077 (update patch, could be 2021 but whatever, I'll be waiting)
- Gears Tactics
- Halo Infinite
- Outriders
- Spider Man: Miles Morales
- Watch Dogs Legion

Godfall is a one year timed exclusive so I'll wait until it gets ported to Xbox Series X. If was a full PS5 console exclusive, it would be on the above list. Overall, 7 games as of now. Doesn't include possible games like The Ascent, Bright Memory Infinite, The Medium and Second Extinction. When it's said and done, im expecting at least 10 games at launch.

Is it November yet???

Godfall for me was the one game that didn't do itself any favors during that reveal. I had a mild curiosity, but that reveal made me less interested.

Of course, if it ends up being a legit good game, I will certainly reconsider.

I'm pretty sure that the new Arkane game will be avaible at launch together with some of the indies announced yesterday.
Not sure about Legion, it's already announced that it will be out together with Valhalla this year?

What exclusives are available for PS5 at launch?
Only the robot game? Everything else (from sony) had no release date, which means those will release 2021-2022

Well the xbox has "no exlusives" in this demand, because everything will be available for xbox one, but I don't have a problem with this. I really hope that MS will show some good 1st party games available at launch, else it will get a boring end of the year.

Visuals were downgraded but I liked the combat and gameplay in yesterday's trailer. Plus, it's a looter slasher which im very interest in. Granted, it will be 18 months or so before I play it but barring it being a disaster, im all in.

Wasn't Death Loop confirmed for 2021? Of course, the list I posted is for me specifically not in general. There will be a bunch of other games that as of now, I have zero interest in. Watch Dogs Legion and AC Valhalla will be Fall 2020 titles. Ubisoft hasn't released an AAA title since Breakpoint which did bad for them so im fully expecting both Legion and Valhalla. My guess for Valhalla is October 30th for current gen and launch title for next gen. Legion being November 20th for everything.

In terms of game design there's nothing that's been shown from MS or Sony that couldn't really be done on current-gen. Even stuff in games like The Medium and Ratchet & Clank 2, you could possibly do that on current gen if you scaled it down a lot (though by that metric, we could use that excuse for any console generation so dunno how well it floats).

However I've personally seen some stuff so far that visually feels next-gen. Hellblade 2 and Project Mara in terms of in-engine trailer stuff (not gameplay though), and more recently Bright Memory Infinite, Ratchet & Clank 2, and HZD2. Most of the other games I feel look quite good, some might not offer the visual fidelity and IQ they've shown on next-gen like in current-gen (like The Ascent and Kera), but BMI/R&C2/HZD2 seem the most "next-gen" looking of games we've seen currently.

We'll probably need to wait a little longer before seeing stuff that "feels" next-gen in terms of game design paradigm shifts. Ironically I feel something like this...

...might be some of that type of next-gen stuff I would be looking for. In this case though it's probably unrealistic as a home console.

I'm being half-serious with the Atari Pong table. Really cool concept tho if you read up on it.

Yes, Deathloop trailer says Holyday 2020 for PS5/PC.
Cool for Legion!

It's so weird how two people can look at the same game and it elicit such different reactions in people. That gameplay trailer took God fall from a game that wasn't even on my radar as something I would be interested in, to a game that will be purchased day one if and when I decide to pick up a PS5. That rhythmic combat and looting just looks up my alley.

It always takes 2+ years after launch for a new generation to get games that truly show off their capabilities. That being said, I'm not using that as a reason to stay stuck on this gen any longer. I've been on a base PS4 since November 2013 and I would like to move the fuck on, so PS5 is day one for me.

True. But the XSX is appealing to me due to Game Pass, and the fact that the last XB game that I had played was a XB 360 game. I was going to get the PS5 at launch, but not anymore after yesterday's event. I saw nothing that would convince me to buy the PS5 at launch. Now if Sony manages to launch with GT7, then that's a different story all together.

Outro to this gen is looking pretty dang solid to me with TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima (still a tad on the fence there tbh though), Cyberpunk etc.

I'm definitely not sold on a PS5 at launch though. I need a true must play to buy a new console as someone that's not that picky about graphics anymore. A Spider-man spinoff or Ratchet and Clank are games I'd play, but not system sellers. GT7 is moot for me as I don't like racers, and especially racing sims. Horizon 2 is probably the most likely game to get me to buy and I'm guessing that's spring 2021 at the earliest.

The sad reality is that in a given console generation (usually 7 years), a studio wanting to put out AAA games usually only put out 1 to 2 games max. Look at CD Projeck Red. They had The Witcher 3 out so far for the PS4, with Cyperpunk 2077 scheduled to be released a mere 2 months before the PS5 comes out.

I feel like some of you are too focused on YouTube videos to not see the other benefits of next gen. If Sony is to be believed, it will come with a quicker, better UI. Faster loading, superior sound stage, and hopefully higher resolution and framerates, and a quieter system.

Did you see some of thaf stuff shown? Just because there werent games that displayed hyper-realism per se people think these machines arent a real leap in processing power but did you see ratchet and clank? If youre not a fan of the series thats fine and you want to be dismissive because its a pixar esq light hearted game but did you see how much was happening on screen ? And the fluidity of it all. Particle effects , enemies all doing different things . Animations more varied than ive ever seen them. The lighting ? A lot of the stuff show was very brief gameplay or cinematic but i could see the leap for sure and the games shown were only the first year and a half's roster. This generation i believe will really surprise people. I thought i wouldnt have to upgrade my 2080ti right away but after that conference im convinced i will have to upgrade to a 3000 series sooner than expected.

I guess i'm weird... i thought Godfall looked WAY better than the initial reveal and something i'll keep an eye on unless PS5 reviews tank.

The music didn't do it any favors though... i'm like wait is this Godfall of CODfall? haha

What is the Series X line-up by the way ? Did you see the Series X show that will take place in a month ?

Yeah they really need a strong game showing there with some big surprises. What was shown in the prior event plus Halo Infinite isn't going to move the needle for people who aren't already fans of the Xbox game line up.

This should be expected. It will take 2 years to see games truly made for these systems.

What was shown in the prior event
Prior event was third parties only and games that were not too far away for the most part.

In the PS5 show, way too many games did not even have dates. Right now, I want to know what I will play at launch and the few following months.

Agreed. That's why I said I need to see a lot more than just Halo Infinite and the stuff from that event to have any interest. Also agreed on the PS4 event. It's looking more like I will just end up not buying at launch. PS4 and X1 exclusives were pretty worthless for my tastes the first year to 18 months last time. I don't want to pay a premium for launch hardware that's the most at risk of having defects and have little to play again.

Horizon 2 will probably get me off the fence though as I loved the first and will want to play day 1 to avoid spoilers. MS will have to have some huge suprises that are very different from the Xbox 1 exclusives to get my interest.

Did I miss something? It's a whole new game, set in a parallel universe than the last Spiderman game.

I'm pretty sure that this is a case of diminishing returns. I was looking at the reveal--as well as the games revealed for the series X so far--and while I saw a lot of extra details in many of them, nothing appeared to me as striking as the difference we had going from PS360 to the PS4. I certainly hope most of these games are 60+fps, people will notice they are smoother when they play (as we have had both more stable 30fps and more stable 60fps this gen as well)... and we may just get used to that level of details:

Without any LoD pop-ins.

The story this morning was that it was the first game plus new content from a Sony rep but insomniac later today said that's not true.

Day one for both, but damn that PS5 is going to ruin my whole media center. I might have to mount that behemoth behind my TV on the wall because it won't fit in my closed door cabinet and I don't want it ontop being seen.
