PSN connection problems (12/24)

Weird, I was able to connect to PSN and get a party chat going but Dragon Age was telling me I was signed out of PSN and was therefore unable to connect to the DA servers.

Yeah...kind of the same now on my end. I can connect to the store, but not to the FFXIV servers...

Oh good it's not just me. Maybe they're getting servers ready to drop The Interview on PSN?

For those who don't know how ddos mitigation works, or at least, one way of dealing with it, this video explains it nicely: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x14r6yg_prolexic-in-action-mitigating-a-160-gbps-ddos-attack_news

The current ddos attack against PSN looks to be about 400Gbps or higher.

For those reporting: "no issues", it's likely all of PSN doesn't sit on a single server cluster, there's a lot of distributed management going on, so while the cluster you randomly got put on is fine (for now), others might end up with ones that are down, or going down. It's like if there was a coordinated effort by a thousand people to go rob every McDonalds in the city - they're not going to be able to do them all at once, so the one you walk into might be fine now, or was robbed 10 minutes ago and is now fine, etc.

I suppose I can use the opportunity to knock out the last few chapters of The Evil Within. Store is fine, but recent activities and Destiny are out. Haven't bought or streamed anything from the store to see if the store is functional beyond browsing.

North Carolina.

Still down.

I thought these baboons were gunning for Xbox Live as well? So why is that still up? Kinda fuming right.

everything is literally fine on my PSN. PS4 here, Philadelphia.
The denial of service attacks don't mean everyone won't have access. Some people will already have been on and made appropriate connections or they connect to servers that are for a smaller region. I have friends online playing games though half my friends list is doing nothing. So I can sign into PSN but I cant jump on AW, GTA, or Driveclub online modes.

On a positive note, this has forced me not to play destiny and now I'm playing Transistor, and it is phenomenal!

NYC PSN working here now, well except the 2k servers are down so I can't play 2k15 anyway ._.

Yay for physical disks,at least I can play some of my games offline...down here in Canada also...going to be a long weekend folks.

Houston Texas, just got done logging into the web store and bought some stuff. Everything was super quick and smooth.

Still can't get remote play to work but I think it's the router here at my in laws place.

what the fuck is going on.

this is unacceptable.

PsN has been down more times when we've had to pay for than when it's been free.

Well, some shithead is spamming the servers, so that's what's going on.

Someone already explained why this is a thing - and why it's not a simple issue to correct.

Doubt it. Last year psn was down on xmas. Sucked not being able to play during the holidays.

The poster has a point you know. Maybe he can articulate better but you shouldn't be so dismissive. It's a shitty service

It's a DDoS attack tho. It's not the servers shitting themselves because a ton of people are flooding it, it's because some kids are being scriptbabies and are overflooding the servers with dummies.

You know there is no protection against DDoS right? Xbox, Steam and anything else on the internet are just as susceptible as Sony right.

It's literally the same thing that happens when GAF goes down.

Well... there is. Think of how much traffic Google receives on daily basis. Aside from how huge a search engine it is, the fact that many people have it set to their desktop, programs ping it to see if the internet is working, etc. It's almost like they are getting DDoS'd all the time. They just have servers than can handle the load.

I get everyone is pissed but its been covered already there is not much of anything you can do to stop a DDOS attack we just have to ride it out thanks to a bunch of shitheads that want to be a scrooge this year

Live just outside Houston and most of PSN is down for me. I can watch Netflix, WWE Network, Amazon, etc, but I cant log into PS store, friends list is down, cant talk to or play with people on my friends list, and cant play multiplayer on the few games I tried. It is like this during Christmas time most years, so Im use to it now.
