PSN connection problems (12/24)

I expected them to not divert and to just focus on their own problems. Sure, other networks have been affected, but right now it is just PSN that is down.

If iTunes would have been down for 4 days, Apple's CEO would have written an open letter to apologize for the continued outage.

I do not see any of that rhetoric in the post. This is no longer a DDOS issue, it is a Sony issue.

Lol... Apple's network is superior though. /s They would've blamed the users.

Getting annoyed now. I understand the DDOS problems but this is now beginning to seem more like a Sony issue.

*/edit/*
Just checked again and I can access the store now and trophies synced. Party chat still dead. So semi functioning?

SONY INSIDER: 'The Security Team Has No F---ing Clue'

Our source told us that Sony's security was "outdated and ineffective." The person described Sony's security policies as "idiotic" and expected more from a company with more than 100,000 employees worldwide.

The employee who works with the Sony network said the company's internal IT team was "terrible," consisting of "incompetent people."

We saw evidence of just how poor Sony's security was in the files that hackers posted online. A series of documents stored in a folder named "Password" contained login information for administration accounts, social media accounts, and even SSL certificates.

The source close to Sony also said the company hadn't learned from previous hacks.

In June 2011 the hacker group LulzSec, an offshoot from Anonymous, hacked into Sony Pictures. They said they obtained "usernames, passwords, email addresses, and dates of birth for thousands of people." The group used a common tactic against Sony Pictures, using an SQL injection attack to gain access to the company's computer network.

To our source's knowledge, none of the security people in contact with the source were fired over previous hacks, and it's unclear whether Sony terminated anyone for those security lapses. That could mean that the same people who were meant to defend the company's servers in 2011 are still presiding over its security.

How is fucking PSN still not up yet?

Ive been PS4 online ~7h now. Cant play online game tho (Destiny PS4, kicked me out ~3h ago). I can access to PS store by PS4. Just took these screen caps from PS4 store.

Apple wouldn't go down for 4 days...just like ms hasn't been down for 4 days. I have no hope for sony.
I was on Psn about 11 hours ago also. :(

At this point it's downright laughable.
Several networks receive a simple ddos attack and surprise surprise it is Sony's network who is having troubles getting back up.

I would love to see what percentage of PSPlus revenue was actually applied towards expanding and upgrading Sony's servers and online functionality. I suspect if we knew the numbers they would be pretty appallingly low, and Sony has basically treated Plus as more of a free cash grab than an actual attempt to improve their infrastructure and compete with Xbox Live.

I was going to leave a comment on the official message on the PS blog.

Couldn't even log in.

It is a poor showing for all the people who came across to Sony from Xbox. It just is.

"Oh hey, yeah sorry about the network. Follow us on Twitter!"

Just fix the dang network already

Man i thought the store was fixed earlier today because they did let me in. And they did manage to charge my visa card for the game i bought. But they did not manage to add the game to my downloads/library. And the game doesn't show "purchased" on PSN like it usually does.

I'm sure it will get sorted out once i contact customer services. But their phone is completely dead and the contact form on the web doesn't work at all.

So yeah, be careful if you decide to order anything from the store. :/

Really curious to the level of security that Sony really has.
I mean, the 2011 hack, the sony pictures hack, etc.

Are they really working with prehistoric security measures?
Man, I would love to be an employee in IT for a week to get an inside look.

Bought a three month PS Plus + GTA V today so I could play it with my gf after she got done with work tonight. Figured it at least be up by then. Pfffft that's looking unlikely now.

Ddos is hard to defend against. Only one I know that somewhat can do it is akamai.

I honestly don't know why anyone would but a Sony system who wants to play online. Who gives a shit about 1080 vs 900p if you can't actually play the games? It was this same crap when I was trying to play Destiny, this is nothing new, Sony has learned absolutely nothing.

Same here. Someone made a joke here like "Oh we should give them $5 extra per month so they can beef up security!" If that were true, I'd do it but I bet you guys that extra $5 would still go to try to buy 3rd party games to add to their "Instant Game Collection".

Fuck that. Wish we could vote where the $50 goes to. 90% would go to servers/maintenance/up keep/security and I could give less shits about rental games.

Yes, people who own Sony systems can never play online, like ever, and they were the only one badly affected by this attack, no-one else.

At all.

At this point I just wish PSN would come up long enough for me to sync my trophies. It's pretty messed up that I can't check my trophy list offline.

The age of Sony is done!

I was able to sign into my account and log onto the ps3 store. I haven't tried to buy anything yet though. My brother was able to sign into his ps4 and saw some people live streaming on their ps4s. I'm in central California btw.

Yeah it is a stupid and backwards decision. PS3 and Vita is able to show the lists offline, why couldn't PS4? Same for Youtube.

Working whole time, finally got some time to play and what I get for a paid service? "Unfortunately we experience problems with our network". I don't care! I paid for it, I can accept one day delay but 4 days? Come on, get real!!!

Jesus Christ, so dramatic.

PSN is fine for the vast, vast majority of the time. You're acting as if PS4 owners never get to play online.

Few local friends on PS3 have been playing online without problem for the past hour or so.

Meanwhile I still can't login on PS4 haha :(

Finally in once again in NYC. Here's hoping it stays that way
Edit: not letting me play GTA Online though. Files required to play cannot be downloaded bs

Breathe....

I really wanted to buy Ground Zeroes but I was waiting until after Christmas so I could use a PSN card. When this stuff happens will they ever extend the sales that were up during the downtime?

The Sony Pictures incident is fascinating. Some security experts suggest the hackers gained access to internal systems months ago. The stayed quiet and copied a lot of data. Finally, when they were finished, they unleashed a wiper virus (Trojan Destover) which is a variant of a virus the Iranian government are suspected of deploying against Saudi Arabia. This virus (Shamoon) bears similarities to a virus that devastated computers in a top Iranian nuclear facility which, it is suspected, was developed by Israel and US security experts. Iran might have reverse engineered the virus before later sharing it with North Korea. Nobody knows for sure. If the FBI (and NSA) are certain that North Korea is responsible for the attack, this may be the reason why.

Oh I looked farther up. I guess I can get on the store. Gotta do it via PC though as I'm not home. Couldn't get it to load earlier but I'll try again.
