Guess I'll just buy games off PSN when they are on sale for like under $20 from now on. Fuck em, every decision they made this gen is pushing me away and I've got like over 500 digital purchases going back to PS3 and even psp.

Some anecdotal evidence but, if anything, I've noticed the prices being quite a bit lower than expected during sales. Just yesterday I saw Doom TDA was on sale and it was cheap af so I bought it without a second thought.

Edit: For context I buy games often, bought DMC5:SE, SMTV Vengeance just in the last week or two.

Anyone want to compare?

EU Ireland:
Star wars outlaws gold edition €36 -70%
Doom Dark Ages premium €36 -67%
Mafia old country - €40 -20%
Ireland. My prices on Doom and Mafia are the same but I do not have any discount on Outlaws Gold edition,.just on the standard edition.

I have no idea what is the objective of this pricing execution ?
Most likely: Encourage those who buy little to purchase, and spit in the face of big spenders. That's similar to how it works at most companies; New customers are gold, existing customers are trash.

Imagine defending that. There is really an defense force for everything.
So discounts shouldn't be offered?
People loyal to a service shouldn't get discounts? Guess id better phone up my internet service provider and tell them to increase my monthly pricing as I got a discount for being with them for so long, same with my mobile provider. Guess I should stop all my supermarket loyalty cards also.

I could turn that around on you, imagine being salty because someone got a discount and you didn't. Go ahead, complain then, no one gets discounts.

(If prices go up after logging in as some suggest then obviously I wouldn't defend that and I am talking purely from a discount point of view which I believe this is what it's supposed to be, that has happened before though and it was a bug they fixed)

Edit: and seems I was wrong? The discounts are for people who don't buy much? I mean if that's the case then yeh, get pissed at them, I get why they would do this to encourage purchases but they should be rewarding loyalty.

This should be illegal.

Why? I mean, complain about it if you like and no one gets discounts. There are loads of industries that give discounts for loyal customers, they aren't increasing the prices for anyone merely offering discounts for some.

Imagine defending that. There is really an defense force for everything.

It ISN'T illegal.
Pretty standard ecommerce practices.

All e-commerce sellers are doing it, doesn't mean, it isn't bullshit.

Who would have thought that the leader in selling consoles always ends up turning into the worst until they get bitch slapped back to lower sales etc, then they become the good guy again.

This is really sickening stuff, and I gotta think that governments are not going to accept this. Especially when there is 0 competition for PSN on playstation.

I hope this forces Sony to provide digital keys to retailers. I'll be buying 100% second hand disk games until this improves.

EU France
Star wars outlaws gold edition €119,99 -0% :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The 70% discount is on the standard edition. I never bought any special edition of a game, always standard. What do you see?
Star wars outlaws standard edition €23,99 -70%

Doom Dark Ages premium €36 -67%
Mafia old country - €40 -20%

This is just targeted coupons. Should we ban coupons then?
You seriously think a corporation that's all about making money would implement a system like this to HELP people as opposed to try to use it to harvest more money off people the algorithm seems unworthy of the same discount?

This isn't good guy Sony here. People need to stop trying to make it act like this is an altruistic feature. It isn't.

Of course it isn't, and I don't think that's what the guy you're quoting was advocating for. He was saying that there's no need to create a fuss, that companies have been targeting people with "personalised" coupons for a while now.

I think that clothing shop apps like BestSecret, Zalando and others do something similar.

But there is a need to make a fuss because the switch can be flipped from "targeted coupons" to "discount restrictions" at any moment.
