I hope you get home by Thursday night.

Per Ookie's request and a few others, I'll call for another game Thursday night at 10:30pm EST/7:30pm PST.

Anyone else up for a game then? I'll post details tomorrow afternoon and PM the usual suspects.

This game is corrupted after today's update.
I downloaded again but still the game downloaded the update automatically so I don't know what's going on now.

Does this have offline play? I've always wanted to learn how to play card games but never have. Is it noob friendly?

Wow, that sucks wow. I haven't logged in since our game Monday night.

Please post back here if there is any resolution.

Yeah, it does, and it seems solid but I only played one game. In addition to Texas Hold'em, there are 4-5 other poker game types (Super Hold'em, Tahoe, Billabong, Shanghai), and there is a career and single-game modes, but I haven't done much exploration. There is also a decent amount of stat tracking. I bought it for online GAF games only.

Calder, myself, and a few others are basically learning poker online with this game. However, judging from wowfactor's information above, I would remove the Ethernet cable from your PS3 (or take it off WiFi) before you launch the game right now. The game automatically checks for an update as you launch the title.

Read wowfactor's post above; it might be nuked right now. I don't think you should jump on or right now and anyone considering buying this should wait.

*** Update:
According to the genius community at the Official PS Forums, a patch accidentally got pushed from QA to the wrong server. Well, at least they are working on it in some capacity.

It's been removed. If your game was improperly patched, delete it and re-download/install. I never had the patch downloaded, but I can start the game now and jump online without a problem.

If I get what I need done tonight, I'm flying back tomorrow morning.

That said, the last Thursday in the Square is happening, and Dropkick Murphy's are headlining ... so I probably can't commit to 10:30 anyway.

I was playing offline an hour ago, it was fine. It checked for an update but didn't find one.

The advisor panel has a lot more info than I realized at first, full stats, full summaries of the hands, basic tips etc. And the Penthouse venue is nicer than the casino floor, kinda of a cool kitschy 70s look.

Man, for a game that costs ten bucks you'd hope the actual poker would work nearly as well as free online poker. Table got completely stuck once and we sat around chatting for five minutes. Hands always got hung up whenever people left and the PS3's TI-85 was calculating who the blinds were on apparently. Etc.

Oh well, made $13k and I'll definitely jump in with you guys if I'm around when you're playing.

Maybe your host had a poor connection or they are having more server problems. Our GAF game haven't had any issues except for a 2-5 second pause when people leave/join.

What was the TI-85 reference about? Don't knock the Motorola 68000 series processor in that calculator. I worked with them heavily in various projects as an undergraduate and they rock. Or, was this an underhanded comment about Cell "power" and I missed it?

It was a joke, don't worry about it. Vegas Strip Poker is awesome, the whole post was an elaborate ruse.

So strange, it didn't save any of my HSO points or winnings from the couple of hours I played earlier. Maybe this game and I just don't get along.

Another GAF person reported their points not getting saved, but I haven't seen winnings not getting recorded (perhaps their winnings didn't get recorded along with points and they didn't notice). Other people have had slow, buggy games online too. There are definitely issues online. With my very small number of games, I seemed to have missed them; all my points/$$$ from online were saved (wow, I can wear a plaid shirt) and our GAF games have been smooth for the most part.

At least we know they are working on a patch - I expect it before 2008.

Well the system isn't saving my stats correctly. I'll make 20k and a bunch of points then the next day when log in it's back to where I started. It's been like this for me since last weekend.

Yeah, it's strange that it seems to affect random people. The worst part of it all is that I can't wear plaid pants. Hopefully they fix it soon, either way I'm always up for GAF games with my unchanging $2,000.

EDIT: Hold 'Em is the only game in this right? Bit of a bummer, would be fun to at least have some Omaha and other variations. $10 is neither cheap nor expensive, but I have to echo the reviews that it's a pretty barebones package. Oh well, as long as they fix the online I should get 5-10 bucks of enjoyment out of it.

This is a feature from Sony - Stat Amnesty for all the noobs currently learning to play.

Actually, they must be having server connection issues similar to Warhawk. You probably have to register with the main server(s) when you join/leave games (which randomly may generate locks or long pauses). This is probably when stats are communicated. If you're experiencing a lot of "lag" when joining/leaving, it might just be timing out. Who knows. At least they're working on a patch.

GAF High Stakes on the Vegas Strip POKER NIGHT TONIGHT - Thursday 9/20 @ 10:30pm Eastern

I could start the room unless someone else wants to do it. PM or post here if you are going to play.

10:30pm Eastern
9:30pm Central
8:30pm Mountain
7:30pm Pacific
TONIGHT, Thursday, Sept. 20th

- My PSN and the Room Name: Garrick
- Game: Texas Hold-em w/ No betting Limit
- Game Type: Open Table (or Sit & Go - which one do you prefer?)
- Password: believe
- The starting limit will be $1000. If your new character has $5000, you'll only be risking at most $1000 a game.
- Small/Big Blinds will be $5/$10. Smaller bets for less money. We don't want people to go broke too quickly.
- Voice chat on. It works well and is quite clear. There are no icons to tell you who is speaking, but it's a small room.

I played the offline for a while last night. There's a bit of depth to the SP career. Sadly I finished just under the cutoff on a few tourneys and now I think I'm too broke for even the cheap-o satellite buy in.

I'll be on tonight depending.

hmmm I'm NOT a good poker player, but this keeps calling to me. It would be nice to play against some people online. If I snag this ill let you know.

Actually how does this work? Do you have a constant online character that keep a running money total from one game to the next? what happens then if you run out of green?

You can make up to 4 different avatars at any one time - it doesn't take long to make one because the options are so few. Each avatar starts with $5000. If you lose all $5000, the game gives you back $22. You could join or create an open table room with a $1/2 blinds and a $20 minimum and start back up...ugh.

You can delete the avatar and create a new one with another $5000 at any time, however, the stats for that avatar are reset.

Our games have a starting limit of $1000 - so you'll have $4000 even if you lose everything. You could exit the room at any time and come back with another $1000 out of your pot however. You build/lose money from the pot of the avatar you are playing, as well as statistics.

There are global statistics as well for your PSN ID - like your global amount won/lost.

Also, the connection to the stat server seems to be glitching occasionally, so your winnings/losings may not be counted right now.

Really dumb question about the voice chat..
Is there a push to talk button or do you just mute from the headset when you are snacking :lol

It's always on.

Make sure you can connect to your headset in the XMB before launching the game. I never had a problem connecting with my old Logitech Mobile Traveler headset, but I got the Jabra that came with Warhawk and it occasionally has issues when switching between my cellphone and PS3.

Belfast had a bunch of issues the other night with his headset. What were your problems and how did you fix it?

Of course, we're all led to believe that firmware 2.0 with its XMB access in games will solve all problems. Sure.

Okay! It looks like you guys are starting up quick, but I'm going to be in for the game, even though I'll have to puzzle it out as I go. Hrm. I don't think I have a headset, though...

EDIT: well, I do, but sadly not USB or bluetooth. >_>

I am seriously getting pissed off, my PS3 is connected directly to my router and my pc is also and it can connect and my laptop is fine via wifi

The only way I fixed it was to just keep going back into the XMB and reconnecting until it decided it was going to work. It would connect in the XMB and would detect voice, but I'd go into the game itself and couldn't hear/say anything. I'm not really sure what causes the problem.

Strange. I don't know why this would work, but I've read of people who CLAIM they have had to completely turn off their PS3 to fix connection issues - meaning they had to flip the physical power switch in the back. I don't know how this could help - is there some resident memory that stores network data even in standby that becomes corrupt or out of sync? Very strange. Good luck.

FWIW, I used to have a lot of trouble connecting and I just went into Network Settings and turned off the Media Extender and haven't had problems since.

wow, crazy times. If there's a next game I'll buy a headset.
There will be game(s) on Monday. Maybe Sunday if anyone is interested.

5 hours of poker. I feel bad for Ookie - he made 6K and it didn't record. He lost voice connection after a host switch and exited to restore his voice, and lost his winnings for the effort. Then he loses 6K, then wins back 3K. Did the 3K record at least?

All my stats recorded. I lost 1K midway through, and then my 6K of winnings recorded at the end.

So, a list of glitches that surfaced in the 5 hour match:

1. Stats didn't record at certain points for a few people (who left and came back when they were busted). Known issue. Par for the course with PSN games.
2. We had one hand where it "froze" at the end of Master Z's turn. He exited the game, the hand unfroze then continued without problem, and then he rejoined. Of course he had to start back over in the round with $1000.
3. There were very small pauses when people exited/joined but they were minor I felt and none longer than 2-5 seconds.
4. We had a hand where Oooki and Crazy went head-to-head, Ookie won, but the winnings/losings weren't recorded. Oooki had gone all in with a small amount of $$$ but wasn't able to double-up. That was bad.

I guess I'll submit these on the Official Forum's problem/complaint form. I don't really know where else to send them and since they are at least working on a patch, perhaps they'll field some user feedback.

OokieSpookie said:
Yeah the wiinnings from the last one saved, the 6k I will chalk up to learning (mainly learning how to log back in quickly :lol )

Which is why I played tight on a lot of hands. I was the only guy not to rebuy, and after I saw how familiar you were at logging back in, I figured you'd blow bankroll to call me on some of those cards. :lol

My stats reset; I am impervious to the ramifications of horrible plays, which works out quite well. The major downside is that I still have no plaid in my wardrobe.

AND he got us to accept a three way ALL-IN blind wager on the last hand of the night. Why do we give in to peer pressure? But it was fun - we had a lot more money to gamble with thanks to all of Ookie's buy-ins. :lol

GAF High Stakes on the Vegas Strip POKER NIGHT TONIGHT - Monday 9/24 @ 10:30pm Eastern. *record the 4th quarter of MNF...

I am going to try a Sit & Go Tournament to start off the night. If it's full, create an Open Table room, post your PSN Name here, and people can join your game as they bust out of the Sit & Go.

*** PM or post here if you are going to play.

10:30pm Eastern
9:30pm Central
8:30pm Mountain
7:30pm Pacific
TONIGHT, Monday, Sept. 24th

- My PSN and the Room Name: Garrick
- Game: Texas Hold-em w/ No betting Limit
- Game Type: Sit & Go - to start out the night. We will migrate then to Open Table.
- Password: believe
- The buy in will be small - $200 + $15. $200 goes into the pot. 1st place will win $600, 2nd place $360, and 3rd place $240 I believe.
- Small/Big Blinds and Ante will start small but increase every 10 minutes (or should this be 5 minutes?)
- Voice chat on. It works well and is quite clear. There are no icons to tell you who is speaking, but it's a small room. We played for 5 hours on Thursday night and my Jabra BT125 never beeped at me.

If you do not see room Garrick, you might have to look through the other rooms for GAF people. If/when I bust out, someone else will become host automatically and the room name changes to their PSN ID. I got a PM from 2 people who wanted to play on Thursday and didn't see my room. It was AstroLad for a while, then OokieSpookie, etc. I think host changed 4 times. Annoying.

I'm going to start the game in 15 minutes - I'll just make an Open Table game. If we want to later, we can exit out and try a Sit & Go.
