PSN sale week! $5 PSN games

I already had PAIN since day one. Wonderful time waster. Don't buy the characters unless you have money to blow. Do spend on the Amusement Park pack when it does arrive.

I just might grab HV Bowling and Poker.

Wow. Both PAIN and Pixel Junk Monsters are very fun games. O.o This is definitely a steal for $5 ea.

Is PAIN supposed to update everytime I run it? It's currently stuck ar 89% on the 2nd update, been that way for 3 minutes now. Suggestions?

[Edit[ Ok I forced quit using the ps button, tried running it again and it got stuck again at the same exact place. I think I'm going to have to re-download it.

ok i'm starting to think i wasted 5 bucks on PJ: Monsters. I can't beat any of the levels. I keep playing the same ones over and over. this is not that fun :P

Not even the first one?

Pain for $5 is a no-brainer for anyone drinking beer with friends at home (horse game-play).

If PJM goes on sale in Europe I will test it, I am not sure it is my cup of tea.

well yeah, i beat the tutorial, but i keep getting beat or skim by with like only 1 or 2 of those little guys at the house left.

Watch some videos on YouTube...they'll help you get the hang of it.

As a general rule, you want to start out with a few cannons near a chokepoint early on in the enemy's path. The cannons will do AoE damage and damage many enemies at once. Then put some arrows later on in the enemy's path to pick off the ones who got by.

Early on:

Cannons > blobs, golems
Arrows > spiders
Anti-Air > flying enemies

Of course, there are varying enemies later in the game (shielded, flame resistance, armored bees) but the rules I gave you should at least get you past the Easy levels.

You'll probably want at least 4-5 cannons on a level around your chokepoints. Have 1-3 anti-air guns way in the back, or where they're range will have the biggest impact. Have arrows scattered all over.

It's important to remember for all towers, that it's best to place them where they'll get to attack the enemy twice. In the first real level, for example, where enemies travel in an S pattern, place your arrows in the middle of a row. The towers will get to attack the enemies when they're above your tower, and again when they pass again below the tower.

PJM isn't rocket science. Nor can you waste $5 on it, you were given a powerful gift for that amount. Apologize to Q.

Decided not to get Pain, I could see myself not playing it after a few days.

thanks for the tips...i think i've been doing most of what you've been saying already though. It just doesn't seem to work for me.

i've played this kind of game all the time in Starcraft (all those UMS Defense games), so the concept itself isn't lost on me.

i guess i'll keep at it

Tip: If you stand up next to the tower for a certain amount of time.. they upgrade for free... This is VERY VERY useful information.

On Topic: I'm a cheap bastige and I'm wondering which game i should get bowling? or PJM? PAIN i think would be fun but I would lose interest pretty quick.

I already own nearly everything on sale, but decided to grab Poker.

It's pretty much no-frills Poker, but I can gameshare with the cheap bastards who don't want to pay, and finally (using the camera) see some EoJ buds I've played against.

I'm pretty mediocre at Tower Defense games, but holy crap does PJM make it apparent. Any tips for a noob?

edit: Grats to me on reading previous posts.

I havent bought a PSN game in ages so I'm not sure if they changed how you purchase games, but do you have to put a defined set of money in your wallet to purchase a game (e.g. $5, $10, $15, $20) or can you still pay the exact $4.99 amount for each game?

I think you can add any amount as long as it's more than $4.99, not sure though...but I just bought Siren and it told me something like that.

So PJ Monsters is getting a trophie patch right?

I was able to buy Pixel Junk Monsters by paying the exact amount required. It was a little over $5 after tax.

pretty sure 5.00 is the minimum, anything over that and you can pay the exact amount. So one penny in your wallet I guess.

I was able to just buy the game itself. It did not require me to buy a pre-set amount in my wallet. The minimum is $5, but with tax it puts it over the top.

Also, PJ Monsters is quite possible the greatest way I've ever spent $5.

Keep your wallet empty at all times. When you go to checkout a purchase, you'll have the option to refill your wallet for the exact amount every time.

i dont get charged for tax, so it was 4.99 exactly for the game. I had to put $5 into it, so now i have 1 cent left over.

Its kinda dumb, i guess. I assume the minimum transaction has to be 5 dollars.

keeping funds in the wallet is only good if you dont want to leave your cc info in the system (i thought i didnt, but it appears to have stored it) and you dont want to keep entering it every time you want to make a purchase.

Yea, it does.

I think I get charged tax, though, so I didn't have left over monies.

Weird. I have Sony retail stores in this state (TX), so maybe that's why I was charged tax?

well, that doesn't make sense, because Metreon is in San Francisco, and i believe that's a Sony-owned store, isn't it? I'm in California.

Unless California just doesn't have a law for taxing online digital goods.

I finally dove into PixelJunk Monsters last week with the sale and it is well worth it. I've got rainbows (perfects) for all the easy levels but now I'm thinking I might want to wait until trophies get patched in before continuing much further. I know I'm going to want to start over for the trophies and getting the rainbows can be extremely difficult.

PJM is a great game.

Pain should be given away for free. Not worth $5.
Make sure you play it with friends before making that judgement. Best party game on the PS3.

Is pain's dlc characters worth buying? Do they bring anything different to the game besides the lines, and voices?
Candy (or is it cookie?) plays a lot differently. She can grab onto things easier than the other characters. Probably the most fun character to play with in the game.

Stand on the towers to level them up.

The fun of this game is getting Rainbows and leaderboards. W/out that...I don't think I would enjoy it as much as I do.

Quick question: I just bought Pain/PJM but I don't want to start due to possibly needed to replay for trophies. Anyone know if these games will have retroactive trophies or will it be like SSDHD in that you need to play the game post patch to get them?

Two invaluable tips for PJM:

- Stand on towers to upgrade them faster (you see a corresponding bar).
- When you don't need a tower anymore, sell it (this is also a good trick to increase high score as you can sell the towers behind the last wave as they go by)

When does this sale end? I'm thinking of picking up Pain after tomorrow's Eden release.

I wouldn't wait until tomorrow if I really wanted it. The sale ends tomorrow, but no idea whether tomorrow will still be there, although I don't think it will.

If PJM gets Trophies (Not confirmed yet as they're still exploring that option), some will be retroactive.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/23/pixeljunk-eden-trophies-galore/

Oh, and we have been totally inundated with requests for trophies in PixelJunk Monsters via some kind of patch. As this goes to press, I can say we are definitely looking into it - you just need to badger Deborah Mars and her team in Santa Monica to get some dates set. If we release a patch, we will not only implement this but we will also implement XMB music and a couple of other things.

Then he responded to a comment from TTP regarding retroactive support.
