PSP 2.0 update... when?

ANyone have an idea as to what time we can expect the update? I'm really looking forward to it, this is just my fifth day of PSP ownership. Having a mini-web browser is going to be quite tremendous. And I know how much 1.50 firmware is reveared, but I want this 2.0. Should I look for at midnight my time (Pacific) or is it going to be just some random time through out the day? ANyone with information, gladly accepted.

dude.... I suggest you try out a homebrew browser before upgrading your firmware.

Also keep in mind the purpose of the PSP, it is a portable. Last time I was in a car or a plane or a bus or waiting in line at the DMV, there was no wifi spot for me to browse the net on.

but hey, do what you want.

I don't believe a time was announced. It won't long now anyways.

Oh btw... I'm 2.0 adopter and am already enjoying the new features. Oh and I've surfed the web on this here portable device, away from home. :P

Maybe there are people out there who have tried homebrew and don't care for it? Maybe a clean, usable browser is what they're looking for? Really, I'm not baiting here...I'm just wondering what this obsession with trying to turn people away from upgrading to 2.0 is. Most of the posts come off as though those who want to upgrade are ignorant or something.

Well, I'm interested in the homebrew stuff (I actually follow its developments daily over PSPupdates), but I'm going to wait till the scene gains a better understanding of how the PSP works and start releasing bug free osom working stuff. Till then I'll wait for a definitive firmware hack.

...

You aren't even supposed to have a WiFi device turned on while on a plane.

However, there are usually WiFi spots in most airports.

As the original poster stated in another thread he wasn't very interested in the homebrew scene so go for the official the 2.0 update. You can get the Jap 2.0 update now and i've been using it. They are pretty much going to be identical and I'll still update tomorrow. 2.0 webbrowser is pretty slick and you will like it. The wallpapers and everything are pretty cool too. I've tried a couple AVC files (the march of the penguins trailer) and it looks really good and we should be seeing some non-buggy converters supporting that soon.

pspvideo can do avc already. i'm surprsied i haven't seen much talk on it here...or i guess people haven't heard about the new version?p

It's a beta version that's filled with bugs. I do use it however.

I thought you couldn't update a PSP with JP 2.0 to the US 2.0.

Sony recommends that if you have an American PSP and you downloaded the Japanese software, that you go ahead and download the American version. Operating under the Japanese 2.00 update on your American PSP voids its' warranty.
I guess you can.

The Japanese one didn't come out until about 5 or 6pm JST, so it'll probably be the same sort of time of day for the US one, but in RandomUSTime or something.

can i switch over to the american 2.0 version if i already ahve the japanese 2.0 firmware w/o any potential harm to the psp?

That's good news. Maybe they fixed WPA for the NA release.

If you're referring to the part where Twisted Metal and other WiFi-compatible games didn't support WPA after the upgrade, well, no, that won't be fixed in the NA release.

Nah. I'm talking about that thing where even basic WPA isn't working on the 2.0 Japanese firmware / browser.

But yeah, from what I understand the games themselves have to be programmed to support WPA or have support for it patched in.

Found this on the PSP messageboards:

Firmware Upgrade Time Schedule

Augest 12, 2005

Eastern Time - 6:00 PM

Central Time - 5:00 PM

Mountain Time - 4:00 PM

Pacific Time - 3:00 PM

Hawaii Time - 12:00 PM

This is the official word. Many people have called in and aquired this information recently. Too many of you are calling the shots too early and complaining that it isn't out. It isn't out because of one reason, Hawaii has not reached noon yet, and until then we will not expect the update. When the time comes, don't expect anything to happen right away, give it at least ten minutes.

Thank you and have a nice day!

The PSP Firmware 2.0 Upgrade for the North American market will be available during the week of August 15th, instead of on August 12, as previously reported.
Designed to compliment the comprehensive entertainment experience of games, movies, music, photos and wireless connectivity provided by the revolutionary portable device, the firmware 2.0 upgrade will allow users to take advantage of the unitÂ’s built-in Wi-Fi capability and wirelessly search the Internet from Internet Access Points or hot spots. The firmware 2.0 upgrade will be available for download directly to a PSP using a Wi-Fi connection or downloaded to a PC from http://us.playstation.com/psp and transferred to a PSP through a USB cable.

well that's retarded. fuckin sony. i suppose i've only been used to huge delays, as opposed to 3 day ones, as a born and raised nintendo fan.

WTF?? The WEEK of August 15th? No specific date?
Fuck it - I'm downloading the Japanese firmware update...

Anthropic,

Care to share with me how you got it working via PM? I've tried, but it just won't accept my passkey (same one I use on my computers to access it). It's baffling.

Thanks in advance
