OK now a generic where to put homebrew apps folders tutorial would make this go well.

:D

for each homebrew program, you'll have 2 directories:

/homebrew/
/homebrew%/

you want to copy these 2 directories to PSP/GAME/ so it should be something like this:

/psp/game/homebrew/
/psp/game/homebrew%/

you need BOTH directories on the memory stick in order to run a homebrew app. go to the game section in the PSP, then memory stick and load the program. you'll see that there's a "corrupted data" icon when you browse the list. just ignore it

i think this development pretty much kills alot of the '2.00 homebrew' movement... who is gonna work on 2.0 homebrew when people can just downgrade and upgrade at will?

Having to flash a firmware isn't ideal, and certainly not something I would want to do more often than absolutely necessary.

There are those that want homebrew and AVC / Sony web browser support and will wait, whether there is enough demand to spur development of the 2.00 exploit is a good question though, but you have to admit that the ability to flash the firmware from the 2.00 exploit is a good step forward from "Hello World".

Can anyone link to the 2.0 firmware? I've got a 1.50 but I want to check out some of the 2.0 features and then revert back.

Is flashing firmware that unstable? I mean, Sony apparently expects people to do it quite often with incremental upgrades.

It's not unstable no, but any hiccup in the process will result in a "bricked" PSP (Dead dead dead.) - Same as a PC BIOS upgrade really, safe usually but not something your going to want to do daily. And there haven't been *that* many incremental updates from Sony since release, certainly not enough to warrant the term "quite often".

The interesting thing now, is what Sony can do to co-erce a 2.1 upgrade on people, have they got any more 'carrots' (AVC / Web Browser in 2.00) or are they going to rely on a 'stick' (Forced upgrade for specific title release / DNAS) ?

Can anybody rapidshare the overclocker? Yoshi's Story runs like shit.

you dont need a overclocker. the snes emulator allows you to change speed in the options

(games that uses mode7/FX run like shit)

Er... how do I change the options? I dont see it... :/

Not necesarily true if you fiddle with the options a bit, or in a worst case scenario, disable the sound. I remember Drohne complaining about R-Type 3 during those scenes, but I finished the level 1 of that the other day, and it ran pretty much perfectly smooth.

Is there any emulator that will make FFV run properly? Before I upgraded my PSP it ran slowly and I couldn't activate any buttons

Has anyone tried the Amiga emulator? How does it run with games like Paradroid 90, Carrier Command or Starglider 2?

I would definitely downgrade just to play carrier command on PSP!!! and what about FTL DUNGEON MASTER??? tricky to control with psp analog stick but worth spending a few hours with it again after soooo many years! :D

Does the SNES emulation still suck? or did it improve?

It got a lot better from when it first released to just about 2.0 release, but still wasn't that playable imo for almost any rom.

Just a QUICK question....do I need to use KXploit? I just dragged the two folders over and it seemed to work fine.

I have a Mac, so I used MaXploit or whatever and it seemed to not let me do it. Then I dragged it over manually and it worked.
if there are two folders in the zip ( Folder and Folder% ) then the EBOOT.PBP is already split properly for 1.5

if not then you need to use a splitting tool

a new snes emulator released slightly after the 2.0 update came out, and it's wayyyy better than snes9x. SMW pretty much runs at 60 FPS

Well I guess we can be open about these.

Lufia 1 and 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4, Paladin's Quest, Super Mario RPG and Earthbound were slow on either game, sound or both.

Do you need to really customize your settings to get the games to run smooth?

does that still run like crap?

My psp freezes up when i try to access the SHELL PHOTO MENU

edit:

I found PSP Update ver.150 on my memory stick folder and when I click upgrade it says
The system software on your PSP system is version 2.00. There is no need to update.

Read the directions again carefully please

the psp is supposed to freeze the first time u run the photo menu

What you do next is go into the Photo Menu on the PSP and it will show some jumbled text, which is normal. Wait about 30 seconds and then restart your PSP.

My psp freezes up when i try to access the SHELL PHOTO MENU

nevermind. I missed some parts. here is the whole procedure

Steps to use the MPH downgrader:
- Create an UPDATE folder in the /PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder
- Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your /PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
(make sure you have already changed your background to frame_buffer.png as explained in the toc2rta exploit.)
- Copy h.bin to root of your memory stick (meaning in ms0:/)
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick (meaning in ms0:/ as well)
- Plug the AC adaptor

You memory stick filesystem should look like this (where X is your memory sticks directory):

X:/h.bin
X:/index.dat
X:/PSP/PHOTO/overflow.tif (with no other pictures in there)
X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP (the 1.50 Firmware update eboot)

What you do next is go into the Photo Menu on the PSP and it will show some jumbled text, which is normal. Wait about 30 seconds and then restart your PSP.

From there you will now have a new file in your PSP’s root directory called ms0:/index.dat.bak. In the next step you will go to your Game Menu, Then Memory Stick, and then Launch “PSP Update ver 1.50.”

It will then ask you if you really want to downgrade and then lead you along to the actual installing. Here is where I got scared. It installed to 99% then errored. This is OK. Restart your PSP and turn it back on. It will come up with another error which is OK as well. Restart it again and you will have PSP firmware version 1.50, and it will lead you through setting up language and time etc. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of legal homebrew, not piracy.

Didn't work :(

Got the same msg as last time. I have two images in my photo folder, overflow and frame buffer which is my wallpaper.

re-read the readme...

edit: bah, i'm feeling nice... delete the tif, set the png as your wallpaper then delete the png and put the tif back...

and make sure the other files are in the right place too...

Some games that I've tried run fine, or at least playable:
Benefactor, Disposable Hero, Beast 2, Creatures, Lost Patrol, It Came from the Desert

Some not very playable:
Wings, Beast 3, Stardust

Can someone explain the firmware upgrade process? Do some games force you to upgrade? How? You have to d/l it via WiFi or via new game buys? Do you have to upgrade to continue to play old games or just new ones? Is the major reason to upgrade functionality?
