PSP Games Are Here!

I mentioned this in the secondary 'official psp' thread. Someone said that there's low shipments of Ridge Racers at launch or something...

i've got that bitch pre-ordered. i should be cool.

You guys could always import Ridge Racers and have it at launch. :)

Just got off the phone with EB. They got Spider-Man 2, THUG 2 Remix, World Tour Soccer, NHL, and Need For Speed Underground Rivals for sale.

My friend is stuck at a mall with a Gamestop while waiting to go to the airport. They told him they won't be sellin any PSP games until launch. I think these guys are just clueless and too lazy to open the boxes they got today, but this might explain why Gamestop.com had some of their PSP games listed as available yesterday and now delayed to next week today.

Alright, I'm back from EB where I picked up THUG 2. After firing it up, the first thing I noticed was that the free skate stage is the warehouse from TH 2 (my favorite game in the series). I was playing THUG 1 on my XBOX in high def yesterday and I couldn't help but notice how nice the character models look on the PSP. they're bigger than I thought, and the stages are big. the downside to all of this is that Activision has a deal on the console version this week and it's 29.99!! I couldn't help but feel like an ass when I paid 20 more dollars for the PSP version, but then again, to get all of that content and 4 more stages on the go is priceless. Well, if there's any specifics you guys wanna know, post them and I'll see if I can find them.

What are the controls like? How is revert mapped? How do you get off your board and walk around? Does the create-a-skater option have a lot of depth? Does it support face mapping for instance? What's the soundtrack like? The same as the console one? Is it as fast as the console game? Ifso, does this make it tough to play?

Back from EB where I picked up NFSU Rivals and Phantom Dust with trade-ins, and still had $15 credit remaining, which I used on Ape Escape. I love how EB gives you even more credit when you have more than three games. :D

THUG 2 Remix is nice; I'll definitely be spending some quality time with this one. :) I notice they added an option in the audio menu to conserve battery power by doing away with the playlist, which seems to be the default setting...I had to change it to get the playlist to come up in-game.

Need For Speed Underground Rivals feels like a waste of a trade-in right now. I hope it gets better; but Ridge Racers spanks this game in every way possible (control, graphics, music, STYLE, number of tracks, etc.)

Whoever pays $50 for a little portable game(especially tony hawk and spiderman2), is a big ol' sucker. :lol

Not when it's the same game with MORE content added. :lol :rolleyes

The controls feel similar to the DC controls to tony hawk 2, but you can do things like get off the board now. Revert says L or R when coming down from a jump. To get off your board you hit L. create a skater does have face mapping (pic). Soundtrack, according to IGN (I never played the console THUG 2) is all there. It's definitely as fast as THUG 1 so I'm sure you'll find it's fast, but you still have full control. here are the menu screen and face mapping (that's NOT my face, it's the default face in the game).

$50 for a handheld game=HELL NO!

The days of handheld games being inferior to their console counterparts are about to be over (for now, anyway). Get it straight.

I think that for THUG2:Remix, though, it should have been 39.99. I mean, the console versions are already pretty much at that price now. I know it has four extra courses and some extra characters, but eh...

...but I know what you mean. It sucks, but it makes sense. THUG2:Remix is essentially a port that loses nothing in the translation. Would it make sense to release THUG3 for PS2 and PSP for different prices, even though they both are the exact same thing with absolutely nothing (besides minor graphical details) lost in the translation? I don't think so. PSP is essentially another platform now, and although it sucks... guess it's something to get used to.

ALTHOUGH... I will say that once Xbox360/PS3 comes out, handheld games better rest at 39.99.

That's true. But there will still be a lot of people out there who don't want to spring that kind of cash for a handheld game, even if it's pretty much as good.

exactly. The bulk of my gaming is done *not* on the go. So paying $50 for a port of an ok game I can get for $20 cheaper on a console AND play on a much larger screen (with a more comfortable control set up mind you) is crazy. Maybe it's just me though. Meh.

quit bitching, go whine in a nin10do thread

relax mr. sensitive. I like the psp. I think the game prices are a little much though. :lol

also, how was I whining? I'm just calling you suckers out for essentially re-buying spiderman and tony hawk underground 2 at a hiked up price. You guys got owned.. :D

Am I the only one who is REALLY looking forward to play Untold Legends?

It's one of the games I'm thinking strongly of picking up for launch. Some times I think the game looks great and other times it kinda looks shitty. I'm sorta waiting to see how the reviews come out on it.

Oh yeah, and random dungeons are generally a red flag for me, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to seeing reviews for it, that's for sure. I definately would love to have a quality hack'n'slash on the go but something about it sets off my spidey-sense. I've just got a feeling that it's going to have some major flaws and be a disappointment. I hope I'm wrong, though. I'd love to pick it up if it's good. Definitely the game I'm most interested in hearing about.

Can't wait for it. I watches some movies on IGN and couldn't figure out why people were whining about the animations; looks like a CoN or Baldur's Gate DA game shrunk down for the PSP.

Awesome, thanks for all the info. Since I loved THUG and missed out on the sequel, I really want to pick this up. I just don't know if I can justify spending $50 on it though. $40 would probably be doable though. For some reason, that $10 means a lot.

Uhm, the couple million people or so that've bought 4, THUG, and THUG2? That's like saying "Madden got old after 94. What's this, the 10th Madden version? Who cares?" Obviously, there are a huge number of people that care about both. Thanks for the pointless comment though.

Some spells like one firespell look pretty bad. So yes the graphics are un even but I will probably still enjoy the game. I mean I enjoyed playing Baldurs Gate II wich was considerable inferior to Baldurs Gate 1. Hell I thought that Fallout game was good.
By the way, how are you supposed to control the camera? There is no right stick..

fugimax, it supports wifi up to 4 players. I think with tunnelling software it will work. Dunno how easy it will be to set it up. I have access to a laptop with wlan on it. It isnt using the wlan for internet right now. But yes official online support would be better.

Nintendo's iron grip on hand held gaing is not over, they just sold over 600,000 DS's in Europe, and when Gameboy Evolution comes to the market, Sony won't be bragging about the PSP's pretty graphics anymore. If I want to play games with good graphics, I play them on my console at home. Big TV, more comfortable controls. I'm looking at spending $250, plus money on games and accessories like memory sticks. PSP is a black hole for money, and even though I can afford it, I won't let mine get sucked in. I'll play my games on the PS2 and GC, and leave my portable gaming needs to Nintendo.

Infrastructure mode does not necessarily mean Internet-enabled. It simply means that all PSPs playing the game attach to a common access point instead of directly to each other. The internet might not even be involved.

EDIT - Maybe they're including this information for eventual tunneling use? It doesn't sound like it's an Internet multiplay game but the manual does say it "requires" an account with an ISP. Who knows?

Wow, that was a pretty terrible post. Did you wander on in from Gamefaqs or something?

By iron grip, most people would think "borderline monopoly". Surely you can see how the PSP could become the first system to seriously compete with Nintendo in the handheld market. Suggesting that the days of Nintendo's iron grip are over does not necessarily mean that Sony is going to suddenly dominate the market. I believe that both the Nintendo DS and the PSP have a place in the market and both will perform well. Of course, many people DO actually view the DS itself as a disappointment thus far. While Nintendo may indeed turn that around, it has left a gap open for Sony and should allow them to perform well in the market.

Throwing out the "Gameboy Evolution" (I'm so sick of random, pre-release name guessing) card means nothing to me. That's akin to a PS2 fan bragging about the PS3 offering more power than the original XBOX. You don't bring future products into a fight. For one thing, regardless of when it is released, Sony will have had plenty of time to judge the success of the PSP. It's position in the market will have become much more obvious by that point. Not only that, mentioning a next generation platform so early in the lifetime of the DS will only bring harm. You don't see people bringing up PSP2, do you? THe Nintendo DS and PSP are roughly the same age, yet people are talking about a new Gameboy platform and hoping for a release within the next year or so. Releasing so many different platforms in a short period of time doesn't seem wise. The DS is not a part of the Gameboy line, but parents DO view it as a new "Gameboy" for their children (heck, it plays GAMEBOY ADVANCE titles). If Nintendo were to introduce a new piece of handheld technology so quickly, what do you think that would say to consumers? Talk always proceeds a system launch, you know, and if a new GB is announced within the next few months, it won't paint a good picture for the DS.

OK, enough of that...

Yeah, I know it was a terrible post, and it's my first one too. Honestly, I don't have anything against the PSP except its price. I think it's just WAY to much for a handheld. That said I'll probably get it...very grudgingly however. That and I'm kinda tired with people treating it like the second coming of Christ. I just think the price is exploitative to consumers, especially when Nintendo can put out good hardware at an affordable price. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy, but I guess the above post did make it sound like I was, I'm just bitter at Sony for charging so much. The hardware and software is gonna be expensive...it's just a little disheartening for me, especially when I'd REALLY like to own it.

But the PSP IS the second coming...for handhelds. :) It's that much better than the competition; forget the music playback, video playback, etc. The quality of the games for the PSP is much higher compared to the DS titles. It's not as if everything released on the PSP is gold, but compared to the DS, it's a far better system in almost every way IMO.

Actually, it's the launch games that are holding me back from getting it. I'm more of a platformer/rpg kind of guy. I like all my games, including handhelds to have a good story, and be somewhat intelligent. Like Xenosaga I and II. Someone could teach a college course on those games stemming from the fact that they are all molded around the beliefs of Frederick Nietzsche, including Episode three which is titled after his book Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Those are the kind of games I like...but we'll see. Maybe I'll cave, or maybe I'll just enjoy Digital Devil Saga until the summer; then I'll get the PSP.

First post eh? Whoops, I had no idea. I wouldn't have come on so strongly if I had realized that. :P

I just think the price is exploitative to consumers, especially when Nintendo can put out good hardware at an affordable price.

This is one thing I don't really agree with. PSP offers 3D performance that has never been seen in the handheld realm along with THE best screen you'll find on any similar device. The hardware is simply more expensive to produce than others before it. DS and GBA -ARE- quality pieces of hardware, but they are generations behind the PSP in terms of actual technology. Many other handheld devices (with different uses) are actually quite a bit more expensive (including that odd looking Gizmondo). It's not really fair to compare the price of a DS to that of a PSP just as it wouldn't have been fair to compare the price of a Nintendo 64 to that of a Gamecube back in 2001. If they wanted to bring the price down to Nintendo DS levels, hardware features would have been cut.

Of course, I too would have loved a lower price point, but for the amount of technology packed in there along with the features, I really do not feel as if I am being ripped off here. The PSP is much newer hardware and offers many additional features in comparison to the DS. If you haven't actually used a PSP before, however, you may not yet see that. Seriously, seeing the unit in person for the first time is actually awe inspiring. Expect to be suprised...

yea...doesn't make sense. maybe it's just some stats tracking like some live aware games. can anyone verify?

Anyone read the thoughts on Untold Legends in the 1Up PSP Editors Roundtable? THey seemed to indicate that the game is fun, but has some problems. They didn't really elaborate beyond that but at least it's a few fleeting impressions.

can someone verify? is it just some stats tracking?

Remember back when there was this Japanese spec sheet for NFSU:R back around TGS and it stated Online play. People here quickly jumped on it as a mistranslation/error by EA.
