So it isn't $250?

And the games aren't $40+?

Because really, I didn't read...just glanced and that's what I saw. Anyways, the rest of my post shouldn't be "derailed" just 'cos of the first sentence which was BTW a question.

$250 is for the value pack which comes with the memory stick, case and extras genius.

You do know that this is not an action game right? You don't even control the mechs, you just "tune" the AI (which is just a bunch of nonsense numbers on various attributes) and then watch your mech fight by itself without being able to skip the match at all. I was almost going to get it with my JP PSP but once I found out I cried. ;_;

Yeah I know, I'm a armored core/mecha whore though. I need help!!! :lol

I think he was referring to your statement about needing a memory stick and case. For $250 you're getting the system, a pouch, a cloth, a 32meg memory stick, headphones, remote, a demo UMD and fucking Spiderman 2.

$250 is still too much for a portable and $40+ games are too much too. But having all those extra's is nice (I appologize for not reading what it comes with). Does it come with an A/C adaptor or battery recharger or would you have to buy that seperatly so that you could still play it after you're done watching Spider-Man 2?

ooooooooooooh SNAP...no he di-ent...

Seriously, is there a point to this mindless trolling?

Yes but what about those who don't find value in any of that? I want a real case, a real mem stick, and a real set of headphones and I don't want another copy of SM2.

Overpriced.

Look, here's what you get for $250:

In addition to the revolutionary PSP hardware, the PSP Value Pack contains an unprecedented added-value package of accessories and entertainment content, including 32 MB Memory Stick Duo(TM), headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adaptor, soft case and cleaning cloth, movie/music/game video sampler UMD disc including multiple non-interactive game demos, and for the first one million PSP Value Packs shipped, a special UMD video release of the feature film Spider-Man(TM) 2 from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

It's actually a pretty good deal.

I used to be a member, but now I'm a junior member...just like you!

Really, I'm just messin' 'round. My initial post I think is still valid regardless of the fact that I didn't know it came with those extra's. I guess I shoulda read what it came with and I appologize.

Yeah read it before you start trolling.
Better: also stop trolling after you've read the article!

Thanks for the info xsarien, I really didn't know. It comes with a battery pack too? Hmmm...that's nice. Not trolling, but how big is it, and how long does the battery last?

I don't see how $249 is really that bad considering what you get. Honestly, Sony's still probably taking a loss per unit at that price point.... just be happy it's not $299 and you get a free MSDuo.

I have to say, in my defence, that my initial post wasn't trolling. It was a question regarding the price (hence the three question marks) followed by why I think Sony will have a tough time selling PSP to the mainstream. I should have read what it came with and maybe I shoulda posted in a different thread, but the reason I felt I had to say something about it is 'cos of the standerd $40+ price for PSP games.

I already appologized for my not reading what the value pack came with and tried to make a joke afterwords...buddyC (of all people) called me a mindless troll, so yeah I reacted. I hope you can all get to sleep tonight unoffended by my posts knowing that I appologized for the harmful devastating things I said.

Troll a Nintendo is doomed thread get a cookie...troll an almighty PSP thread and get spankin's! For the sense of humor impared, that was a joke, not a troll.

Price as expected. It'd be nice to be pleasantly surprised. But 249.99 is still a great price for me.

Will be picking up
Lumines
Ridge Racer
Wipeout

Maybe Metal Gear Acid later.

Sony has really covered all of their bases here - I'll grab Metal Gear and Ridge Racer for sure, and wait to see what the reviews for Wayne Gretzky Hockey are like. Can't wait!

Surprise, surprise - GTA doesn't make the launch "window".

I'm not sure if too many people actually thought GTA would make it for launch. Rockstar has said that it will be released this Spring, which lead many people to hope for it at launch, but I'm guessing it'll come a month or two later. We haven't even seen any screenshots yet, nor has there been much info released about it yet.

Only dissapointed in the pricing of games. Will still buy maybe two at launch, but $39 (as low as???) competes with my console game budget. The good thing I guess is that you know that prices will drop as time goes on if they start that high, but it just means I won't be buying as many games initially as i thought I might

awesome line up

-- Lumines(TM), Ubisoft
-- Metal Gear Acid(TM), Konami
-- Ridge Racer(TM), Namco
-- Twisted Metal: Head On(TM), Sony Computer Entertainment America
-- Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, Sony Online Entertainment

for me.

How would you define launch "window"? What was it for the DS? 2 weeks? 1 month?
Strong strong line up for Sony. With such a big price gap($150-$250) they'll probably need it. Including a UMD movie is very clever on their part too. Still, gonna be an interesting battle.

I second that. The $250 psp price tag isin't really a big deal to me. It's the games that will wind up killing you in the long run. I was hoping for a MSRP of $29.99-$39.99 but it looks like thats not going to happen. Hopefully the PSP games will get the greatest hits treatment.

Knowing Sony, I'm sure they will. It's a matter of when, there should be a few GH titles around this holiday season w/ GTAPSP in order to fend off the DS/Xenon.

Not sure either what "launch window" means but it's the term Sony uses:

"Consumers can find the following titles available during the launch window at more than 18,000 retail locations (listed in alphabetical order):"

It is a nice lineup, but it is still overpriced when you know the vast majority of games will retail for $49.99.

Will the PSP get to PS2 level games? Yes. Are they there yet? No. That's why I find it funny Sony is implementing a $49.99 pricepoint for most PSP games when they aren't up to PS2 level yet. $39.99 seems a much reasonable price point for most games, with puzzle games like Lumines at $29.99. Higher than DS games ($29.99) and lower than new console games ($49.99). Part of me wants the entire software lineup in NA to bomb so Sony is forced to drop those ridiculously high prices on software.

Whoa, this was unexpected. It launches right on my birthday, so I should still be getting one. However, I'm rather glad it's not coming out of my pocket. :P

Well,

As several people mentioned, Mercury is missing from the list. A point to consider is this is what Sony said:

"Sony also announced the preliminary list of launch titles, to be released simultaneously with the handheld: " , so it's possible some might fall off or be added.

Archer M's Mercury, that's right. I'm sure there are other mini-micro-publishers who aren't being mentioned like Telegames or something...

Why are there two threads about this again?

Because Sony put out 2 separate press releases today:

One for the Hardware price/date and one for the list of Launch Games.

So I guess there are two threads now...

Whats the point of two seperate press releases that essentailly talk about the same thing?

Well, the other thread seems to be focusing on the prices of the system/value pack, and games, while this one is talking more directly about the games themselves. I was following the other thread, but it was nothing but complaints about the prices. This thread has been more civil with thoughts on the launch games.

where's Mercury btw?

This list will probably become more concrete as launch gets closer.

Interview:
http://money.cnn.com/2005/02/03/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/

regarding UMD movies:
At launch, the PSP will allow owners to watch films, view digital photos and listen to digital music. Currently, "Spider-Man 2" is the only film that has been confirmed for the product's launch. Hirai said Sony is currently finishing up discussions with other studios and expects to announce the PSP's motion picture line-up closer to launch.

-- Ape Escape(R): On the Loose, Sony Computer Entertainment America
-- Darkstalkers Chronicle(TM): The Chaos Tower, Capcom
-- Lumines(TM), Ubisoft
-- Metal Gear Acid(TM), Konami
-- Need for Speed(TM) Rivals, Electronic Arts
-- Ridge Racer(TM), Namco
-- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR(R), Electronic Arts
-- Twisted Metal: Head On(TM), Sony Computer Entertainment America
-- Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, Sony Online Entertainment
-- Wipeout(R) Pure, Sony Computer Entertainment America

Those are the ones I want, and I will probably only be able to get 2. ARGGH! Damn you Sony and your large choices for gamers!

I have a question:
Is this going to actually be available for pick up ON 24th? I need to know because whether it arrives on 24th or 25th will actually affect my schedule.

Does new system launch usually arrives on the ship date?

Also, I'm debating between getting Twisted Metal or Wipeout...

The launch date is the 24th. It'll likely ship beforehand, a la, well, every system for the past few generations. I just hope Wipeout and Twisted Metal are day-one launch titles.

I'm a pretty monogamous gamer, so I'll probably only buy 2 games at launch, with 1 being my PSP "first".

What to get first?

1) Ridge Racers seems to be the banner carrier for the systems launch
2) I loved Champions of Norrath, but I'll have already gotten the sequel in February.
3) Metal Gear Acid - Just don't know enough about how this plays
4) Lumines - The total cult hit here, but it is "sexy" enough to be my first?
5) Wipeout(R) Pure - I love the series.

Decisions, decisions. :D

I'm hoping these are day & date releases. Thank gawd for my tax return. Ch-ching.

What I want fo'sho':
Lumines
Metal Gear Ac!d
Ridge Racer

Wait and see/if I've got the scratch
Ape Escape: On the Loose
Wipeout Pure
NFL Street 2 Unleashed
THUG 2 Remix (I can go either way on the THPS games, depends on my mood around launch)

Come to think of it, this is the first major system launch without a Madden game in a while, yes? Too close to Madden 2006 release?

Yeah does seem strange with no Madden. Atleast we get hockey!?!

My launch day buys:

-- Darkstalkers Chronicle
-- Gretzky NHL
-- Lumines
-- Metal Gear Acid
-- Need for Speed Rivals
-- Ridge Racer
-- Twisted Metal: Head On
-- Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade
-- Wipeout Pure

Maybe:

-- Smartbomb (puzzle?)
-- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR

Disappointed with:

-- Hot shot golf delay (don't screw with the characters!)
-- No Nippon Ichi Makai Wars for launch
-- Where's the RPGs? (atleast announcements, waiting for E3)

It's off-season for Madden. There was an article the other that reported EA was preparing Madden 2006 for the PSP - it'll probably get released alongside the console versions.
