I AM SOLD!

Should secure PSP as THE handheld in europe. Cannot fucking wait.

This is what i've always wanted on a handheld, a good representation of ProEvo on the go. I can just imagine the fuss this is going to cause at work, lectures and travels.

I know WE is gaining ground, but is it really that big in Europe? Wouldn't FIFA being more of a killer app there?

WE sells more on PS2 than FIFa does. Fifa has the luxury of being released on all 3 platforms

Should be interesting to see WE go against Fifa on Xbox this october.

Edit: Im going to have to import the JAP version

Nope PES is a total killer application here,on PS2 it has sold more than FiFa for two years in a row.Fifa is totally bashed and trashed by every vg magazine here and so its popularity is strongly decreasing even among casual gamers.Clearly since Fifa is present on every exsisting platform the total sales still favour the Ea title, that's why Konami is trying to expand the franchise on other platforms (Xbox,PC).

It does? All over Europe or just the UK?

FIFA regularly sells 7-8m worldwide iirc (the vast majority of that being on PS2), I can't see WE doing even half that honestly.

WE is coming to the DS also :)

I've read tha Seabass told that converting WE9 to PSP was really hard.
IMO it is pretty impossible for us to see it on DS.
Graphics are too important in this game.

It'll likely be based off the the PS1 WE engine, with added design refinements from the later WE games. It's also going to have online play fwiw.

Graphics are nothing special in We series and they've never been......just go play we in a PSX, graphics are pixelated but it still has that great gameplay.

People who have DS dont play PES. People play it on PSP. Yeah stupid generalization but I think its true atleast here in EU. Dunno about japanese gamers.

How the hell to any of them play if the games arent even out.........?

This + GTA = Europe PSPOwn3D this holyday season.

Out of 25 million PS2 users how many are going to buy a PSP to play a slightly worse port than what they can buy for £30 for their PS2? GTA on the other hand...

Watered down, stripped and disected version probably. Doubt you'll see the same level of animatin and fluidity we've come to expect from Pro Evo. The screen would suck too

It would be the perfect travel game. Finally a decent football game to play anywhere. Its going to sell shitloads

I own all 3 consoles and a GBA SP. I have yet to buy the NDS or the PSP and didn't see myself buying either for the forseeable future.

BUT, I will so totally buy a PSP just for WE9 alone. It is the portability of it that is amazing........

It's keeping online play at least, unlike the PSP iteration.

I actually think DS would be better suited to a WE Tactics translation though.

Of course they'll buy it to play it when they're not at home :D :D
Moreover according to this logic portable games based on home console verions shouldn't exist when they actualy sell well.

Ummm sure if you say so. What is the last WE you've played? WE9 looks pretty damn good. And it's not just the graphics that look 1000x better than the PSX versions, it's the animations. I couldn't go back and play the old ones because the animation would suck in comparison.

I don't know how anyone could spin wanting to play WE on a DS over the PSP.

speaking of, the king of spin :p

Go ahead and play DS WE online Jarrod, and have a blast

Exactly, its all in the player movement. Thats the main part of the gameplay, adjusting your characater to take on players, get in precise passes and line up for shots. Its what sets it apart from Fifa.

Its a complete joy to watch, even if you're not playing, you can appreciate awesome set pieces and great looking runs

makes you wonder what's gonna happen when Sony removes the cap from the CPU (222MHz -> 333MHz). Cant wait for WE10 already :P

Give me a PSone version of WE with online play and a PS2 version of WE with no online play and I'll take the PS2 version. And I've been a huge fan of WE since 1994....

yeah, why on earth would you buy this version just to play at home?

Im buying both versions, PS2 and PSP.

How accessible is WE for a noob? I've always considered getting it, but most of the simulation sports games seem to have a certain curve before you actually truly enjoy them.

I'm a noob and new devotee. it has a curve in the sense that a good player can obviously use the tools at hand to be a much better player. it's very deep in that sense of control. a lot of my frustration simply comes from not having a bunch of experience with the sport itself. that said, the game is so nicely made and flows so smoothly, that it's incredibly addicting and satisfying to improve. I would recommend any sports fan to simply try it.

Musashi pretty much sumed it up. Like any sports game you would enjoy it more if you had some background knowledge on the players, team and history of the sport. But as a game its pretty easity to get into, passing the ball around, organising an attack, crossing etc You should be pulling off great looking goals after a few matches. You should learn the rules though. Whats allowed and whats not, theres not much to get you're head round

Just as I cant see the spin of playing on psp vs ps2.

I already have WE9 PS2. I'm gonna play the PSP version on my commute so I can link my rosters and leagues with the PS2 version.

Well... I've decided not to buy this game. No matter how good it might be, but I cannot risk myself trying to adjust my playing to different controls of another soccer game, when my league championship ending is at risk. ;) I'll stick with the real-deal - but.. but...

..

<breaks down.>

Oh crap, I just stopped playing PES 4 after. like, 9 months!
Looks like it's all just gonna start over when this baby arrives in Europe.
My only concern are the controls actually, I just hope the fewer buttons still allow for the amazing wealth of movement options you normally have in a WE/PES game.

If so: sold and SOLD!

Just expounding on the issues. There's no telling if WE DS will have features or anything cut, the only certainty is a visual reduction, and then only model complexity and texturing is certain (animation may not be). Meanwhile, we know multiple features are being cut from the PSP game, in addition to a slight visual reduction.

I don't play sports games... except Hot Shots/Mario Golf. :)

Bah, that video was already posted in another thread. Thought it was new.

That reminds me. WE9 PSP obviously cannot substitute for the PS2 version since it lacks certain things (ML, commentary, animation, some moves), but it is still surprisingly close and makes an EXCELLENT companion for anyone who often plays games outside of the home. But WE10 on the PS3 is obviously going to blow it out of the water and should render the PSP version, comparably, to DS WE9 type levels. Well, maybe not THAT bad. :)
