I know there's a thread for this, but I unfortunately don't have the time to wade through the entire thing. Sorry. I just need help with something really fast. I'm trying to convert some .avi files into .mp4s, obviously. I want to fit about four or five on a 512 MB stick, and their original file size is about 180 MBs per. What resolution/sound spec is a decent one to convert to, to compress space but keep it a quality presentation? Thanks in advance.

I'd need to know the length of the files in mins to be of any help
and some help in what kind of video it is (Anime, Comedy, Live Action)

Be careful. A bunch of asses will probably jump into this thread and point you to the "PSP Encoding" thread in a rude manner.

Qscale 4, 320x240, 29.97fps, 128kb Stereo Audio
That should fit 5 22 min episodes quite nicely

Feel free to change the framerate, the lower it is, the higher quality each frame will be, but it will be more choppy.

More information in what I call
"The Q Scale"

Q2 = 1 hour
Q3 = 1 hour 30mins
Q4 = 2 hours
Q5 = 2 hours 40 mins
All above with 128kb sound Stereo, and with 29.97fps and res of 320x240
Q8 = 4 hours with 96kbs sound, and 25fps

Results may vary based on media. Media tested was a sitcom. Animation compresses better.

Edit:
Message me on aim (Cross Legend) if you need more help.
I think i'll write a guide monday on PSPVideo9

What's the Qscale 4 thing?
I figured that out. It's the Variable Q thing, right? I just change those settings, hit apply, and then choose the files to convert?

It looks like it's still going to be pretty large.

Yeah, it's still 120 MB, so I'd only be able to fit four. Any idea how I can shave some more off?

If it's anime, bump the FPS down to 14.985. I didn't notice any difference when I encoded some anime this way

I have that part bolded above because apparntly the profiles in PSPVideo9 was screwed and have it as 14.935 on some profiles. This causes audio-syncing problems. Be sure to check your profiles so that it has .985 and not .935
