PSTwo=Piece of trash >:(

The only console that ever broke for me was a Dreamcast, but it lasted long enough. I would expect most people here to have problems because you guys put so many hours on the systems. I only buy one console(just a psx2, had an xbox for 2 weeks) and probably buy less than 10 games per generation. If i put the time some of you guys do into games, i'd surely buy a service plan.

And I remain the only man alive to never have a problem with a Playstation branded piece of hardware.
No, same here.
We have fucking hammered them in the office and they still all work. We have a 10000 series Jap launch unit which even survived a botched gen one modchip install. We have TEST stations - they all work - they all still totally work. The Japanese unit even takes UK power without exploding.

Can't say I agree w/ the smoking thing. My PS2 catches smoke daily. Then again, I only need the lense to kick in when I boot. ;)

This isn't some crazy statistic that I pulled out of nowhere. I've seen it and experienced it myself.
Actually, unless you have some 'crazy' statistic to show what you are claiming to be true, your account is just about as irelevant as mine (and I have never had any problems with PS2)

my old ps1 broke, then the replacement I got fucked up and overheated from maybe 5 hours of play one day, but it didn't get ruined somehow since it still works today and hasn't screwed up since then, and that was like 4 years ago. same with my n64. my snes still works, sort of, but some of the games I have fuck up like old nes games do (i.e. put them in and it won't read them) but that seems to be more of a problem with specific games than the snes. and I wound up having to get the el cheapo genesis 3 that sucks, but at least it reads my genesis games. and my original dreamcast fucked up after about 2-3 years of almost constant play (ok so it wasn't on all the time for 3 years in a row obviously, but i was playing it a lot) but the replacement i bought then (right around when sega was price dropping them down to like $80) has worked perfectly. no problems with the current systems at all.

Maybe because you use them more? I would doubt my N64 or Gamecube would ever break
:lol
I dunno, I was playing Winning Eleven 6 (import of course) with a bunch of my buddies back in res and some guy tripped over the cords (I only own one WaveBird sadly), bringing my GameCube crashing down from about 3 or 4 feet.

The fall managed to take a chip out of the bottom right hand corner of it, yet the game continued to play. That was a year ago and I've never had problems with it.

All hardware can break, but you'd have to be pretty blind not to see that Sony's breaks at a far faster rate. All things equal, my Sony systems really do break faster. This isn't some crazy statistic that I pulled out of nowhere. I've seen it and experienced it myself.
Doubtful. If failure rates were anywhere near as high as implied, you'd see a major news story on it. I'd bet dollars to donuts that PS2 failure rates are right in line with Xbox and GC failure rates, just that there are 5 times as many PS2 owners as Xbox or GC owners, so there will be a lot more complaints. Sony's sold 75M PS2s. A 2% failure rate is still 1.5M users. Basically, a 2% failure rate is still 10% of the userbase of the GC or Xbox. You'd know if it was bad, b/c it would probably be grounds for a recall or some class action lawsuit. Sony hardware failures are way blown out of proportion, but that won't change until they lose their lead. If the PS3 only earns 20% of the market next-gen, you're gonna find that Sony's quality has "suddenly improved", but only b/c fewer people have one. PEACE.

Actually, Sony did get a class action lawsuit for the DRE issues with the old model PS2s, hence why they repair that aspect for free.

Got the new one this morning. I left the console playing LOTR while working and after that I've played like two good hours of GTA:SA without a problem. I've noticed that the console gets pretty hot in minutes, but this is normal so I won't bitch about it. I'll do some stress tests playing DVD9s but looks like the previous console was one of the lemons. So far the new works OK.
