Yeah, you can use the old remotes for the PSTwo. Sony has no plans to make a new DVD remote.

The old (first remote) doesn't have the power/reset funtion on it. The second issue's power/reset function works on the PSTwo. But the eject button doesn't.

For some reason my Sony DVD remote seems to work fine with the PS2, except for the on/off and eject functions.

probably uses the same code or frequency or whatever it is that distinguishes one remote from another.
