Public Changing Room Nudity

I am a fat man with an average penis and I have no trouble with people seeing my corpulent, naked form. Got used to it at the Y and now I'm free of body privacy issues.

ugh no thanks. Old guys at my gym or any gym for that matter just ruin it. Had one 400lb guy just standing in the middle of the hallway, bending over and applying lotion to his body. You try get that image out of your head.

Basically if your under 40, EVERYONE at my gym has their towel on. Over 40-50 and they are just hanging it with pride and you almost can't even look down at the gym. Sorry if I'm not comfortable looking at dicks.

Hi all,

This is based on a discussion my girlfriend and I had at dinner last night (yup). I mentioned that I'm totally comfortable getting naked in public changing rooms - say, a swimming pool or a spa - and that I find it weird when I see grown, adult men obviously wasting time to be alone, or otherwise trying to undress under towels. My girlfriend then said that this is far more common in women's changing rooms and the only ones who just flat out get naked are old women who just don't give a fuck.

So, GAF, how do you feel? Are you comfortable getting your kit off in front of other people of the same sex? Would you if it were mixed? Since when? I know I didn't when I was a kid.

(FYI I'm a 24 year old guy and I'm slightly chubby but not physically disgusting or anything).

I've never being a public changing room.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't assume you agreed.

But I too can completely understand the Mormon institution being especially sensitive to the 0.000001% chance that two boys would somehow go at it while the rest of the room just watches. Ironically, privacy stalls seem like they would make that... "easier."

Yeah, when I'm in the changing room I tend to not notice guys as guys. I'm just there to change.

I change before I get there or use the private changing rooms they offer at the gym. I also only use the stall in public bathrooms. Don't know why people should have an issue with how others use a changing room or showers or restroom, you do what you want and I'll do what I want.

I showered once in my gym. Nobody was in there. It was morning, so it's usually slow. Anyway, there's a bench that faces the mirror. One day after putting lotion on my body, I planted one foot up on the bench and started to thrust in front of the mirror (I was originally flexing at first). So this guy walks in and I quickly pretend I'm checking out my foot. I put my clothes on as fast as I could and bailed out.

wait, nude swimming lessons in school? This is really weird

That doesn't happen today anymore. I grew up in Eastern Germany in the early-mid 90's. During that time i think much of the "body worship" that was established during the nazi era was still present in the culture. Sport and healthy bodies were political doctrine of the country and religious institutions had no influence. Also i don't remember that ever naked kids were seen as something sexual in the media or public opinion. That only changed after the reunification.

Soggy biscuit really does not happen and please do not believe the guys who are just trying to give guys who play sports a bad name. It's embarrassing to see people that gullible.

Thanks for the explanation. About the gullible part - here even playing naked leap-frog would be considered something weird, and looking/reading various movies and novels one can learn that Americans are pretty weird with their initiations at colleges, so you never know. :P

Apparently until the 1970s it was common for boys to swim naked in gym class at school. Even the gym teacher was naked, even if he wasn't swimming. This shit seems so weird.

Ew, pubes and pee drops in the swimming pool. :|

Don't know why people should have an issue with how others use a changing room or showers or restroom, you do what you want and I'll do what I want.

I agree with you when it comes to restroom or changing room, but I can't stand people showering in their underwear at swimming pools or saunas. As I said previously, it's all about hygiene. If you're gonna enter a public swimming pool you better be clean everywhere.

I don't like to get naked and I change really fast due to hardcore eczema on my leg which causes massive scabbing and scarring all over my legs.

My junk is fine thankfully.

I live in the state of hockey. I played sports from the age of 5 to now, where I play lacrosse in college.

I can comfortably say that in my 15 years of sports, playing on a dozen different teams, playing with hundreds of guys and becoming friends with hundreds of more, that soggy biscuit and similar initiations simply do not happen.

Canadian hockey? Or US hockey?
High level or low level.

Because this is "the" team bonding/gay bashing locker room activity. Prove you are not gay, and even if you are gay this is so gross you can not admit to anything outside your team or your parents.

The anti-gay sentiment in Canadian competitive hockey is off the chart compared to anything in US sports. I can see an NFL or NBA player coming out before an NHLer does.

The unwritten codes and bullying nature of hockey is just on a completely different level. Coming out would mean betraying so many of those unwritten trusts and codes between players and teams.

One time i went to the local YMCA to swim at the pool with my brother and cousin who was visiting from Africa. I was 15, my cousin and brother were both 13. As soon as we finished swimming and hit the showers, there were a few naked guys. My cousin looked at the guy's wang and was dieing of laughter the people were looking at us. We left and he asked "why were those guys taking a shower naked" and made some other comments.

As a gay man, I feel almost guilty going into locker rooms. I try to avoid it as much as possible.

When I took a tennis course last year, I would show up about 15 minutes early. After practice I would stay and practice serving for a while until everyone left. All this just to be alone in the locker room.

ah, I see. I already guessed that you might be from Eastern Germany (FKK culture), but I never thought that they enforced this in schools as well. I assume you stopped having mixed gender swimming lessons once the pupils reached a certain age?

I can't remember the last time I was in a public changing situation where nudity was involved. We never showered in HS Gym.

Old man ballsack is a public pool rite of passage, let's be honest. A horrible rite, but a rite nonetheless

Our balls will look the same when we are old. Come on people, it's just the human body, drop the childish insecurity.

We need a GAF meet up where we just sauna all night long and work those issues out.

Have no problem with it, mixed or not. It's perfectly natural, don't see why I should be disgusted (or even take notice) of other naked men and I'm not a horny teenager anymore, seeing a pair of boobs in everyday situations doesn't give me an insta-boner.

I live in Minnesota. Also known as the State of Hockey.

I have grown up around hockey players my entire life. My father played through college, my aunt played through college, alot of my best friends played or continue to play. I have met literally dozens, perhaps hundreds of people who have played hockey in this state and I have never once heard of anything or seen anything to prove the contrary.

Perhaps it is different up in Canada, but the only thing that is different from football or basketball, when it comes to hockey or lacrosse, is that it tends to be a more close knit and intimate group of people playing. Football players, in my experience, have friends on the football team but typically hang out with people both on the team and off. Hockey and lacrosse players, the former especially, pretty much only hang out with other hockey players from my experience.

I don't really see a "bullying nature of hockey" that you claim to be off the charts compared to other sports. The only thing off the charts is the commitment to time and to your team that hockey players need moreso than other players in other sports. If you want to be good at basketball, you pick up a ball and shoot until your hands blister. Work on some agility stuff that you can do in a pair of $20 shoes you get at walmart. Football? You work on your running, beef yourself up by working out, and depending on position, get someone to either catch your balls or throw them to you.

Hockey is a whole other beast. You need to work on your skating. That means either living in a cold climate where you can go outdoors, or finding ice time indoors. That costs money. You can get cheap skates for $50, but you need to have them constantly sharpened. Over a winter, that can truly add up. You need to work out and have good body conditioning. You need to work on your stick skills, which requires, at minimum, a $20 stick, along with a puck or ball. Hockey adds up more than any other sport, and when you get onto a team, you know that every other person on that team has to put in the same amount of effort, if not more. New people are hastled, yes, because you can't just "start playing hockey" at a later age. You need to get into it when you are young or you truly are screwed. That is the only thing that I could see as qualifying for a "bullying nature of hockey".

I have never noticed anything close to the apparent gay bashing that you claim, but I can't help but feel that you have some type of agenda with the way your post came across.

If you feel guilty or fear to have a boner, just turn your head and don't look. Seriously, if you don't gaze at other men's junks to the point it starts being uncomfortable for them no one will give a shit whether you're gay or not.

For you guys that feel squeamish, you would REALLY hate my gym. Almost all of us walk around the lockerroom naked, shower naked, shave/brush teeth/put on deodorant naked. And we are all mostly in the 20-40 age range. It doesn't hurt that I'm above average (I'm alot bigger than people I've seen at the gym) but for some I can see what the issue is. But I agree with another poster in this thread, if people want to look that's their issue. And if people get enjoyment out of it I'm glad I entertained. I'm doing nothing wrong/no harm by being naked in a locker room.

But those old guys...yea their on a whole nother level man. I've seen enough old cock and ball sack to last me LIFETIMES.

I used to be super body shy (being overweight has that effect) and would never expose so much as a calf in public changing areas, but after I went to Japan and was kind of pushed into trying the onsen thing (everybody is naked) I got over it pretty quickly. I love going to the Korean spas here now, and I have no problem walking around/bathing naked with other women. It's really freeing. I highly recommend it.

Being overweight as a kid and being forced to play shirts vs skins was pretty bad. Kids are cunts sometimes.

One thing I have seen which is really weird is the typical old fat guy standing on one of the benches in a pool change room so that his business is within eye level.

Anyone else with experience going to Japanese public baths/hot springs? Wasn't that bad really, the gaijin gawking was minimal. Public showers would still be somewhat awkward here in the US, but Japan broke me of feeling the need to avoid urinals next to other people.

I'm -very- body shy. I hated public changing rooms as a kid and my shirt is always with me when I go to the beach (but that's mostly because my skin is stupidly prone to sunburn even with sunscreen). I really don't know why, I'm okay with my body even if I could use some extra meat on my bones.

I don't ever have to get butt naked in a gym locker room. I come in from wherever, change into my gym clothes, work out, and go the fuck home and shower in my own shower.

Wow GAF I didn't know most of you guys were insecure. Personally for me I tend to not care. I can pee next to a guy at the urinal and I really don't towel dance either. Guys get over it we all penises and you don't have look really, but some the stuff you guys do are rediculous. You won't get taped and no one takes pictures ok. Ok.

True, which is why those people should shower right before coming to the pool.. showing with normal clothes on is just going to end up in rashes.

The last gym I went to (Kroc Center) had pretty neat setups. Rooms the size of a largeish normal house bathroom with shower, sink and toilet and a big lockable door. Perfect for changing, then taking a shower once done and changing into street clothes without having to stop at home first.
