Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition |OT| The Only Good Game in the Series, Now Better

Make note I think there's some glitches in the game:

1. Items disappear

I think what happens is if you buy an item at a shop and equip it right away, it then replaces what you were wearing. I had two items disappear this way. So if you buy stuff, make sure to unequip/remove the item you are wearing first, then buy the shop item

2. After beating the game and seeing all 90 enemies in the Choose Opponent screen, pressing the X button to Randomize opponent only flips back and forth between Lord Bane and Lord Antharg

3. Huge damage multipliers.... I've hit 176 damage.

(ballpark numbers off top of my head)
- Warrior
- Battle skill amped up to level 60 = about 100% damage boost and a 3 gem match is 7 base
- Dugog +12 club (works 20% of time)
- Thief's Cowl (double skull damage when hidden)
- Chameleon Ring (match 4/5 gems and get Hidden)

I think the math goes something like this:

- Ballpark base skull damage (pending how much is blocked by enemy) = 7
- Double to 14 due to Battle
- Double to 28 due to Cowl
- Add Dugog 24 (12 x 2 due to Battle) = 52

If you get a big gem match with a couple +5's in there, it might go:

- Ballpark base skull damage (pending how much is blocked by enemy) = 17
- Double to 34 due to Battle
- Double to 68 due to Cowl
- Add Dugog 24 (12 x 2 due to battle) = 92

There must be some kind of multiplier I'm missing because I've done 176. Like I'm missing another x2 somewhere. I've done many 100+ hits. Killed Bane no problem. I think he had about 350 health.

Almost positive I've never played this game yet it seems familiar.

Looks kind of fun, but I don't really like the flash art style

Is this the best version of this game?

It probably is since it's basically PQ1 updated to have extra content all in one package. PQ2 is shit. Way grinder where battles last forever unless you do an assassins trick I found on the net.

It's basically just gem matching to beat monsters wrapped in a basic rpg leveling and items mechanic with some story cutscenes. The company has made other games with the same mechanic like a space game and a Marvels version.

Make note most enemies level scale to your level so when you reach the end game around level 50 (assuming you're someone who likes to do all the quests) you'll notice most enemies are around the same level with similar or more hit pts. So it'll always be a grind…. Unless you can find a way to dispatch enemies fast like my post above yours.

If you don't want to pay any money, try out gems of war by the same designer. Similar kind of game but you got a party of 4. But PQ1 is skewed to a SP focus game where battles are one on one.

game is addictive

Edit: figured out my question, but are there any websites with general information/strategy? The game is light on in game info

For those having issues, here's what you do;

1.Get the storm hammer, Armor, amd helmet.(helmet is optional, of you want to use the double xp necklace, but using three of the storm items makes the game explosive!)

2.Get the Unicorn shield.

3.Get Stun, promotion, and Knight lord for three of your spells. Proceed to walk through the the game like butter. Your welcome.

If I had a lot of fun with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Queensblood and I'm looking for a similar experience, would this game appeal to me?

I loved Queensblood, but it's probably more like Thronebreaker Witcher Tales (single player strategic collectable card game) than it is Puzzle Quest.

Queensblood was about building decks, and lane presense and comboing cards, and strategy.

Puzzle Quest is like pure crack. I think you'll like it too, but it's more of an match-3 puzzle game mixed RPG and mobile trappings but w/o gacha; that is just lightning in a bottle. Campy as hell too.

Get both maybe.

Should I avoid using +xp gear if everything scales anyways? Do we run into OG oblivion like scaling issues? I'm very early on and just got a helmet that gives double XP.

XP is important if there's some high level spells you want so you can get it faster. If not, it's not that important IMO. Buying any good gear in the store has low levels of fire or water or cunning too. The highest requirement is probably level 20 of any trait.

I took warrior and didnt even bother using his highest level spells. But maybe for other classes, the highest level spells are important to get asap.

BUT, I used an item that was I think double XP gained (I forget... maybe same item you mentioned). I milked that since I didnt see any other item that was that effective. I eventually ditched it for something better.

Make note I think there is a bug in the game. If you buy an item at a shop and auto-equip it right away (a box pops up asking), it will replace whatever item you got already equipped. So first remove/unequip the item you have, and then buy the new item. I might be wrong about this, but I noticed I lost two items this way so I think it's true. I lost a +6 Liche ring and Seretine's ring.

I played a match 3 game on ds that was might and magic-themed if i remember correctly but i never played this.

Seeing the name always reminds of cgw radio.

One of the others, maybe Ryan?: its bejeweled!
Jeff: its an rpg! Im playing a paladin!
One of the others, maybe Ryan?: so youre a paladin, that just means youre trying to match yellow crystals.
Jeff: ...

I find it annoying that if you start a siege and fail you can't just completely cancel that attempt and go back to the usual town screen (quests, tavern etc.). I actually ended up lowering the difficulty for a single battle, because the AI was getting crazy combos and inflicting crazy damage on my character.

Slowly advancing with my paladin, I had forgotten you could siege cities. Abusing True Faith to see if I can finish battles faster.

Is it just me or can researching spells be hard af
Very hard, especially the ones that require 16 hammers or whatever. Literally spent hours on some and have not got one yet. There is some strategy to it, where to move to get things placed correctly, but with that high of requirements it'll always come down to luck.

lol, this AI hasn't been changed a bit since the DS version. the computer gets combos so long that I could've made a sandwich while I waited for my turn to come back around.
The game gets easier as you go and you unlock more spells and better gear.

I took over a city, but how am I supposed to get paid from them? Is it just automatic? How often do you get money and how much money for taking over a city?

Edit: nvm figured it out

Finally finished it. I had some trouble at the beginning with my paladin but once I got the Storm set (Stormhelm - Destroy a random column of gems when you receive 4 or more XP, Stormarmor - Destroy a random column of gems when you receive 4 or more Gold, Stormhammer - Destroy a random column of gems when you match 4- or 5-of-a-kind and Stormshield - Destroy a random column of gems when you gain 6 or more Yellow Mana) along mounting a L25 Spider (using its Web skill to make opponent miss up to 5 turns) I breezed through the game winning every match. Lost the first one against the Golem Master but beat him still in hard mode the second time, and then lost against Lord Bane in such a way that I just rematched him in normal and beat him then. Had forgotten how insane was Bane himself. I did the postgame quest to restore the sword too.

Since I had my perfect equipment set I didn't buy anything from the shop (might have bought one item at the beginning while naked, but then didn't buy anything) and spent everything at the temple improving the mana I wasn't using.

The touch screen controls were pretty good, I liked it almost as much as using the stylus for the DS version (and it was a better conversion for touch control than the Etrian ones). And when comparing with the DS version, I finished at level 66 whereas with my red mana-based wizard I had finished the game at level 50. Spent 67 hours and a half and really enjoyed it. I don't think I found that many bugs, game saves after every battle so you can't lose much progress as in other games but the only crash I had was yesterday, I was scrolling the beaten foes where you choose one to fight and when I choose to capture one it crashed.
