Quantum Break PC performance thread

"Wait for the games to release before judging"... Gears releases and has a lot of problems.

"Wait for Build so that Phil Spencer can bless you with his kind words of PR wisdom"... Build comes and goes and nothing changes.

"Wait for Quantum Break to release, Remedy know what they are doing!"... Quantum Break is a shitshow.

And now we have "Wait for Forza to judge the platform"? Seriously?

Get outta here, we've seen enough. It's shit.

Wait for the May update

Don't jinx it. Let MS keep going with this trainwreck and keep letting their insane cheerleaders encourage them.

With any luck this will mean that UWA/Windows 10 store games will be another Microsoft strategy we can file under: "hey, remember that pile of shit? I'm sure glad it's dead and buried!"

I do know about GFWL and all that stuff, but the Windows 10 and UWP initiative is something different. It clearly is a long term strategy, of which we are witnessing the first steps. We haven't even seen the first true UWP games. Wait for Forza to judge the platform, QB just happens to be a sub average port.

"Wait for x" has been the standard response to all of Microsoft's subpar efforts with Windows 10. No thanks, I will judge their performance on the way they are treating customers right now.

I for instance don't really care about the fancy stuff of PC gaming. I just want to be able to buy a game and then play it in my living room on my console, and during the week being able to play it on my laptop + controller. So for me this new platform is exciting.

Right now, the only alternative would be Steam Machines, but then I don't really like SteamOS.

Blatant misrepresentation, since you could easily set up a Windows PC for the living room if you wanted a couch+controller experience without either a)owning a console, or b) purchasing a Steam Machine specifically. Your use case (people who are looking to crossbuy Xbone games, then play poorly-optimised versions of those games on a laptop) is a laughable concept to base a PC distribution platform around, there is next to no addressable market for this. The reaction from people who actually use the PC platform to these compromised products is proof.

Glad I didn't preorder for the PC version. It seems like my 680 wouldn't have played the game much better than the xbox one version. Still happy to see a PC port though. I'm not going to write off "the platform" because I haven't spent a dime on their storefront. I downloaded KI, installed it on my main system drive and it is clearly better than the xbox one version.

Saved the quote thanks. 👌🏼

Yep. It's going to be 👌🏼 when Forza releases and nobody can use their wheels or racing peripherals.

Who the hell releases a sim racing game on the PC in 2016 with no peripheral support? Why bother?

Phil needs permission from his Windows overlords and even then, you know what Phil, do we need this for mobile apps, but we'll look into, okay.

Congrats, UWP does literally nothing of the things you think it does.

And even if they iron out the technical stuff and make it mostly acceptable there's one other thing:

The fucking price! 70 fucking euros!! For a PC game!!??

Thanks for the laughs MS, you gave us one hell of a thread.

I doubt this will happen for the mainline Forza games. Isn't this just an issue with the Forza Apex game or whatever?

Yes but (a) a good Steam Machine is much more expensive than XBO, and (b) I'm guaranteed for all XBO games to work on the console.

Also my bet is, that UWP cross-buy games will become better for PC in the future. The platform is still in its very early phase. Of course, in its current state it's not the desirable end state.

Yea but Windows 10 for Xbox One is optimized for controller usage. Windows 10 for PC is not.

Windows 10 for Xbox One ... well.

You can easily boot directly into Steam big picture mode on W10, turn off login and directly start in big picture mode.

As far as I understand it's going to be a true cross-buy platform in the future. At least that's my bet. If that doesn't happen, I'm on the critics side of course.

We'll have to see how this is going to be handled once the XBO store is merged with the Windoes Store.

The whole cross buy thing isn't even a standard. It really should be though. If that were the case I'd actually think about buying more games digitally, even on xbox one where most of the time I just rent games.

So glad with the time delay on codes, No Preload and ridiculous price it enabled me to dodge a bullet with this.

Genuinely thought this would be the game to show us that MS really meant what it said on caring about PC games. Shame on me i guess.

Ah well DS3 is out next week, this was going to just be a stop gap until then anyway. Will keep an eye on proceedings over this whole sorry mess and hopefully it gets sorted at some point as it does look a cool game and Remedy deserve better.

I know that, I have given it already some thought. But I also need Netflix and Onedrive for example. Especially Onedrive to show my photo albums easily on my living room TV via XBO.

I have 4690K/290X/16GB RAM

normally I'd go for the PC version every time but I think even with that it would be bad...I'll wait and see how it gets patched to see if it's worth getting down the line

From the candyland video. Don't know what res they're running but at least a clear improvement on resolution. Candyland is running max settings at 1080p which means it may not be the 720 reconstruction direct from console?

Game looked stuttery as hell on PC in this video. Hope it's gets fixed in a year or two.

UWP games have been disappointing so far, agreed. But if you're going to make this sort of post (one that'll likely be quoted repeatedly in different threads) at least be accurate. I'm pretty sure you know the bolded isn't true.

I seriously hope that they fix it in less than that timeframe. 3 months is the absolutely worst scenario for them fixing this IMO.

Even the ridiculous Batman game didn't take so much.

A year or two? No one will give rats ass by then.

1.6 million bought Alan Wake almost two years later.

Don't get your point anyway and I'm just being ultra cynical that Remedy might go back and fix this mess one day once all the mess has been waivered.

Perhaps porting starts now and in 6 months the real version will surface.

Yes when its on steam sale. Unless they have equivalent sales like that I don't see that happening.

Downloading at the moment for PC. I will put up a full tech analysis in the next day or two with my specs to illustrate performance for anyone interested.

Go on then, what changes have been implemented that improve things in the context of AAA gaming on UWP since build?

I've not seen any.

Reconstruction uses previous frames. These comparisons were made with a stationery camera. Even xbox version looked much sharper (900p-ish) when there was no motion.

Only thing is, they didn't release Alan Wake in a shitty state for the PC...

I just don't get this type of post. If Microsoft ends up building a good ecosystem that pc gamers like why is this a bad thing? Sure shit isn't perfect right now but the fuck them let them burn type of attitude makes me wonder what type of people you are in your daily life.

If it was their first attempt at coercing PC gamers then I would be inclined to agree with you. But it's not, far from it in fact.

How do you tend to treat people or companies who have repeatedly done you wrong before in your daily life?
