Brian May has been a huge fan of Adam Lambert since Idol, so this isn't a surprise. I don't really think he's a good fit vocally, though.

It won't sound the same but it'll, hopefully, have a similar level of awesome. Now they need a bass guitarist tho...

Holy shit Marc Martel sounds good. No where near as good as Freddie in terms of charisma but his vocals are close!

Tone is close, other vocal qualities...not so much. He is the lead singer for the Queen picked tribute band so peopl can check them out if interested.

there is no way anyone could ever possibly take Freddie's place anyway, so if I were a diehard fan of Queen, I'd go to a concert and enjoy and think of the good times and see it as a nice tribute and nothing more.

lambert can very well sing, so much is true.

It wasnt even Queen before - without John Deacon let alone Fred.

Wait Deacon retired? Shit. Yeah it's time to give it up :\

(builds a dimensional portal so Freddie is still kicking ass into the 90s and beyond)

Edit: shit that was in 1997? What kind of fan am I? :\ So its pretty much just been May and Taylor beating the dead horse?

Butchered.

And yet got glowing reviews from pretty much everywhere. My brother-in-law wasn't a fan and was at the festival for his job and said the performance was incredible. Different than Mercury to be sure but definitely awesome.

I'm just curious how his voice will be doing that every two nights...the amount of strain that WWTLF seemed to take at the show would seem to be hard to sustain. Combine that with TSMGO which requires similar huge power and I don't know how that would work night in and night out.

You can't replace Freddie Mercury.

About Adam himself, I liked him during Idol, but then he kind of went off the deep end and started making all kinds of horrible fucking music. Today I couldn't care less about this dude.

edit: Marc Martel is pretty amazing though, he moves like Freddie, even his facial expressions and mannerisms remind me of him.

Yeah, they've just been milking Queen for years. I don't know if you're in the UK, but here Brian May appeared in an ad for Walkers (Lays) crisps playing Who Wants To Live Forever. He also let a Z-list celeb called Dappy cover We Will Rock You and IIRC appeared in the video. Add this to the shit Queen musical and the nightmare Freddie Mercury film project they're trying to do and it all sounds like milking for money.

I don't know, Rodgers was a gret musical fiure in his own right, Lambert is not. The new Journey guy from the first posts is great, though.

It doesn't matter what singer they bring along this time or next, Queen will never really be Queen again. Not without Freddie.

Lambert is a great singer, but for me he just doesn't work with Queen.

Martel, who still is no Freddie, just fits the music better IMO.

Here is one of the first Queen Extravaganza slows, when they also had Jeff Scott Soto, doing Under Pressure..

Here is a later one, Crazy Little thing Called Love

One cool thing about the Queen Extravaganza is the drummer, he does a decent Roger Taylor

I agree. Lambert has the range and stage presence but the quality of his voice is way different.

Totally agree, his tone is just so different. Not bad, just different, and suited to a different style of music. Martel at times sounds spot on. But sometimes he does sound just a bit off too. I think his natural singing voice is just enough different, and he can struggle at times to sound more Freddie like, other times you can swear its the same guy. He admits he is good at mimicking others. When he was younger, he tried to sound like Eddie Vedder, but that he couldn't pull that off as well.....

Martel has a similar tone in his chest voice (can't recall what his falsetto is like, though I can't imagine it is as wonderful as Freddie's), but he doesn't have the same size or weight to his voice, so it feels sort of underwhelming when he's explicitly drawing comparisons by singing the exact same material.

Yeah, I gave this a listen. Didn't hate it, the guy is talented, had the courage to take his own approach and not try to mimic Freddie exactly.

Problem is, an uncanny replica of Freddie Mercury is what I actually want. This sounds less like classic Queen and more like a really, really good cover band.

I'm picky sometimes, though. Best of luck to them, and might reconsider when they come to my town.

I feel like Nate from Fun was better for that one song than Lambert was.

It doesn't really make sense for Lambert to sing the benefits of fat bottomed girls :p.

And even Nate (who was Fun to watch even if the music was out of his league) introduced Lambert back to the stage with a comment about him being the best singer he knows. Sort of a celebrity's celebrity?

It's not Queen without Freddie. Change your name guys. Stop soiling Freddie's name with these shitty singers. Ya'll need to accept that Queen died with Freddie. Stop leeching off the name

Especially you, Bryan. You telescope using mofo

There will never be another Freddie. But Lambert does a pretty fantastic job of filling in for him, in my opinion. His voice is just as powerful as Freddie's. He may sound different, but he's not going for mimicry; he's putting his own spin on these songs and I appreciate that.

As the thread was opening I was like "Please don't be Adam Lambert, please don't be Adam Lambert...". :(

I like him, but he's no Freddy.
