I have a dell inspiron 5160 which uses 333Mhz bus speed ram. I currently have a 512 stick but i would like to add another 512. I asked a worker at the dell booth if only dell makes ram sticks that would fit in my notebook and he says yes. Now forgive me but i wasn't convinced.
So if anyone knows if other companies make my notebook's ram sticks or just dell. Like are they the same ones that i stick into my desktop computer?

Useful replys please, thx in advance.

Bull.
Shit.

If you need to send it in to them, though, be sure to swap the original RAM back. It is possible it could violate your warranty. And yeah, crucial will tell you what you need. Whether you buy it from there or not is your choice, though. They still give you all the info you need to buy it locally or somewhere else.

Thank you guys for your help, the prices at crucial are almost half the price dell is charging me.

One more thing though, is it only specialty companies like crucial that make these ram sticks or can i walk into a computer store and ask for one?

Once you know what you need, you should be able to get them at local stores. And probably for 2/3 the price Crucial charges. Just make sure they have a decent return policy.

Laptop DIMMs are called SODIMMs. Call them that when you talk to local stores to avoid any confusion.
