Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
I'll admit, I love shrimp, shellfish, fallen fruit and Mully and while I'm a strong believer in the adage of "You are what you eat", I find it it really reprehensible, even amongst bottom feeders, when people just take an unreasonable position in a discussion after reading the course of a discussion for the sake of having all eyes on them. We quote them and they know we quote them and they feel safe because its supposedly under the umbrella of "adding to the discussion" when in actuality, it just derails meaningful discourse.

Ignoring is not an option for me. It seems like a weak shitty thing to do.

Do you respond without quoting them? I want to try this but every time I see someone do it in a fast moving thread, it becomes hard to place context if the response isn't placed directly above the target post.

I sometimes try to just address them without quoting in a supportive hyperbole-laden post directly supporting their insane view but I sometimes inadvertently become the beast I fight to innocent bystanders.

How do you deal?

NC;TL;DR: How do you deal with overtly controversial post that only begs to be quoted?

Why would you not quote them? Quoting someone makes it clear that you're responding directly to what they said.

I agree but it seems to encourage dog-piling which often leads to thread getting derailed or stalled for a few pages.

You ignore it. Nothing worse than three straight pages of "really dude?" posts. Save your outrage for face to face conversations. At least you can be sure the person is not trolling.
