'RACE Pro' (X360) Announced

This isn't the Sim version of Grid. It's a racing simulator from head to toe. As far as I know, there isn't an actual simulator on consoles where you manage fuel loads, pit stops, dealing with punctured tires, yellow flags, drive-through penalties, etc. It mimics (though not 100%) the actual rules and regulations of FIA WTCC and GT racing.

Comparing RACE (or any SIMBIN game) game to GRID (or really any Codemasters racing game) is doing RACE a grave disservice.

The best I can imagine so far is F1CE, although its also got limitations.

This looks good though. Very good.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I really enjoy the endurance races in Forza 2 (well.... for the first 30 minutes) but I wish I had more control over what happens in the pits with regards to fuel intake, tyre pressure, spoiler angle etc etc.

Part of me would also like random problems to occur, but I can imagine the backlash if after 25 laps of silverstone your clutch decides to pack in.... I could see a lot of gamepads being thrown towards the TV/console.

This basically sounds like Race + GTR Evolution rolled into one (which is what some people said from the faux-news before).
Which of course is fanfuckingtastic.

Great news for 360 owners, PC gamers have enjoyed the GTR/Race series for a while now, can't wait to get the 360 version revved up!

Nothing wrong with a little bit of blur but it's going to have to be 60 fps.

Nothing wrong with it when you want a cinema or TV broadcast experience but keep out of SIM gameplay.

Blur means the game does not consider the fact that you can move your eyes and track objects as they move across the screen, blur just kills the IQ. Filling in the 1/60th of a second gaps is a waste, if you want blur buy a LCD with a poor refresh rate.

I think the fact we are not professional drivers counteracts the lack of "random events". In a normal household, a random event can happen anytime, the dog runs by, the kids run around, the wife tells you to take out the trash, you drop a drink in your lap...

The only time when random breakdowns should occur is if there is a monetary system and a choice to buy cheap USED parts.

I bucket full of coins. I will cash it once this game comes out to buy the 360. I don't care if i suck at the game, i just want to see what is like to drive a REAL SIM that makes no compromises.

The G25 rumor but arise from the fact that there was a blerp in EGM's gossip about M$ loosing its restrictions on third party peripherals. That might allow Logitech to make products for 360. Though they've made the best wheel ever already.

Atari should push for the G25 to be compatible with the game. I have been dreaming about a proper SIM for consoles for years. I hate playing SIMS on my PC desk. Now we have a proper game and the best wheel out there, but they're on different systems. motherfu...

Would be happier with "before passing the place in seat with G25 to the next player...".

Day 1, but still very mad about the wheel issue on X360.

agreed, agreed

:lol

once again agreed
especially that last statement

forza 3 has a BIG problem...

Not really. If both are great, people will buy both, racing sim fans especially will buy both. People buy numerous different fps games in one year, I don't see why it should/is different for Racing Sims. Unless of course Forza 3 and RACE 360 come out at a similar period, which I doubt they will.

I would kill for G25 support on the 360, but....

Logitech said:
First, at this point in time(April 2007), Logitech is not licensed by Microsoft to develop a force feedback steering wheel for Xbox 360 - only corded controllers. The DriveFX wheel is, effectively, an Xbox 360 controller that is shaped like a steering wheel and has a force feedback motor in place of the standard vibration motors.

Second, even if Logitech were licensed to make a force feedback wheel for Xbox 360, there are significant technical limitations which prevent these wheels from functioning on on Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 features controller and force feedback architectures (XID, device-based force feedback playback) that are significantly different from the way our wheels work on PC, PS2, or PS3 (HID, host-based force feedback playback). It is not possible to enable Xbox 360 functionality with a software or firmware update.

Logitech understands that our customers wish to use our steering wheels on multiple gaming platforms. We have made significant efforts to ensure that our PC wheel drivers support our PS2 wheels, and our PS2 force feedback SDK supports our PC wheels. PS3 games that support Logitech force feedback also support the same list of wheels. At this point in time, these are the only three platforms with which it is possible to have a single force feedback wheel be compatible. Were it possible to effect a firmware or software change to enable Xbox 360 compatibility with our existing wheels, we would do so. Unfortunately, however, until Logitech is licensed by Microsoft to design and manufacture force feedback wheels, no Logitech force feedback wheels will function on Xbox 360.

Not possible or MS doesnt want to make it possible? Would a XID-HID adapter/dongle not be possible?...but not at the cost of steering lag.

I just want a solid FFB wheel on the 360 with enough rotation to allow realistic linear steering.

That's ridiculous. I use a custom desk and G25 for the PS3 and if they do create a 'G25 like' wheel for the 360, i have to have another setup made for it as well?
I don't live in a mansion to be able to fit all that shit in!
Bullshit!
Microsoft, get your head out of your arse, bury your self conceit, and give the masses what they want.

well play.com lists 2 version, one is clearly labelled as a race 07 expansion so i dont think that will be standalone but the other version will be, they could always have got it wrong though

GTR evolution expansion

GTR evolution standalone
Yeah, two versions. From the gtr-e site it seems like the one with race07 is the main one, maybe the pic is older

box.jpg

be interesting to see this 360 version though, i think they must use their new lizard engine surely as the old engine wont cut it on 360, so we could end up with a much prettier 360 version but the pc version still obviously having much better wheels and of course mods
gtr evolution is lizard engine aswell though? guess I don't understand what you wrote there.. perhaps

gtr evolution is the old isi engine for sure, looks like the 360 is the first platform to get their new lizard engine (it supports both 360 and pc) although theres no release date for this yet so it could launch simultaneously with a pc product of some sort i guess

are you sure? all the gtr evolution stuff I've seen has been lizard :scratch link me up, dood

edit: well I thought it was lizard. hehe

yeah, visually it's exactly the same. oh well. I will continue to look forward to the lizard.. even though I don't even know the engine features :lol nurburgring will do

actually, after I downloaded that free track on steam last week or so gtr evolution popped up in steam and pre-loaded. but it's gone from the steam list again now. could have been an excellent side-effect of the track download bugging out and downloading a bunch of demo crap. too bad it went away before I could wise up to looking at what had downloaded

no DFP , no game.

Btw, exclusivity? That might mean that Forza failed to deliver...

If you're in the dark as to the quality of FM2 as a sim racer, you're also probably unaware of the fact that it is one of the better selling titles on the Xbox 360. Simbin probably sees this as a real good sign. On both the PS3 and 360, racing sims (in the form of FM2 and Prologue) seem to be selling well. In terms of quality and sales, these games are delivering, and I think that is why Simbin seems eager to get one of their sims out on a console.

Secondly, it seems exclusive to the 360 mainly because Simbin wanted it that way from the beginning, rather than Atari having anything to do with it. Remember, they had no publisher for GTR (and to my knowledge, this game).

It could be because they don't have the size to be able to do a PS3 game at the same time. It would make sense to work on a PS3 port after. I'm sure it would sell well on the PS3, and I'm sure Atari and Simbin know this too. But my impression of Simbin is that they are a smaller dedicated developer, and just don't have the size to deal with 2 releases at once. I have to say that to me, it seems odd to have this exclusive (even temporarily) on a console that doesn't have DFP or G25 support.

A solution someone brought up that I thought made sense, though I don't know if it is feasible, is that there is a USB dongle, that translates the 360's requirements to the Logitech wheels. That way, you can use existing wheels.

Anyways, I'm in the position you don't want to be in. I have a desk (not custom, but it does the job) with the DFP on it right now for GT5:P, and I'd have to pop my MS wheel on it to play FM2. Swapping of wheels is a chore sometimes. One wheel for PC, PS3 and 360 shouldn't be too much to ask, and it seems that Logitech WANTS to provide a wheel that does that, it's just that MS is getting in the way. In the same way, I'd love for an arcade stick that works on all three. Again, MS is at fault.

MS is looking to make money at the expense of the quality of the gamer's experience (whether racers or fighters), which I think is ridiculous.

I sure would like to know if they plan to eventually make a PS3 version 'cause i would wait for it instead of buying a 360 for this game.

heres the new lizard engine features

http://www.race2play.com/homepage/show_blog_posts/1305

the old isi engine lacks any post processing effects like motion blur and things like hdr lighting, so the 360 game is gonna look a lot better than gtr evolution but like i say no release date is set for this and could maybe launch with a pc game aswell and as any sim racing fan knows its all about the actual handling/racing rather than anything else but of course you want it to look as nice as possible

heres gtr evolution, lacking any of the lighting or post processing

I'm not very technically savvy about this stuff, but that Logitech PR about "device-based ffb" vs "host-based ffb" just sounds like a round-a-bout way of saying 'MS won't accept our drivers and you're shit out of luck until they do'. I have my doubts any kind of dongle could solve something like that. Either the "host" is speaking the peripherals language or it isn't.

I don't get it, has MS really made that much of a killing with their own wheel, is it on "principal", what? At the very least I find it hard to believe being proprietary wankers enabled enough profit to justify the potential losses on game sales as a byproduct. In other words enthusiasts who are reluctant to buy a sim like this or Forza without proper wheel support.

Isamu aren't you excited about this news?

I'm excited that simbin has decided to branch out and make their games on other platforms, so yes it's pretty cool.

But I also don't understand why so many of you don't simply ditch your 360 and do all your racing on your PC where the G25 works, and where there are racing sims that run circles around anything the 360 has to offer.

*shrug*

My main computer is a laptop so maybe others are like me and would rather play the 360 on their 50+ inch TVs with surround sound.

I really hope this game is 60fps...the derth of such games this generation has frankly become an embarassment.

I've got no space for a wheel, so the 360 pad will do me just fine...fortunately it's the best racing pad I've ever used.

But yeah, MS needs to drop this bullshit...it's just ridiculous.
