I think it still might come down to ease (relative 3DS to say Xbox One). I'd counter-point to piracy on mobile and PC, which is rampant. A "willingness" to pay for Nintendo products might be loyalty or it might be feeling the "the game isn't worth it" excuse is not is likely to be widely accepted. It doesn't mean they don't ALSO pirate those games, they may just lie about it.
Regardless, my gut is that it's likely a "I can, and therefore why shouldn't it."
