RAGE: The Scorchers DLC arrives next week

So this game doesn't have cloud saves right?

How does the DLC work if you don't have a save already? I changed HDD since I played through the game and I really doubt I still have my saves around.

It does have cloud saves...I uninstalled everything a few months back after completing the game,Rage was still in my Library of Steam games but greyed out...all I had to do was re install from the discs since I bought the boxed game last year and all my saves where there...(inventory was intact etc etc).

Oh shit it does? I though I saw somebody here saying it didn't...amazing!

Rage has Steam Cloud support but it doesn't apply to saves. The reason he was able to continue from where he left off after uninstalling the game is that saves aren't deleted along with the game data.

WAit...it has steam clouds but not for saves? What is it used for then?

So unfortunately my 360 controller batteries dunked out so I had to quit playing tonight while they recharge, just as I got to
the wellspring underground tunnels
as well. I've really enjoyed the dlc so far though, and to be honest it's just been fun playing rage again. After the 2nd location I had to go back to the main story for a bit until I had unlocked bash tv, but it is such a fun game, and it's cool to see some areas that were there but locked first time round open up with the dlc. LOVE the nail gun too, even if it seems no enemies drop ammo for it :/ Such a sweet game though, hope for a sequel at some point.

Oh my god, I am in love with the gunplay in this game. I should have finished this back in 2011.

Finished it earlier. Yea, I really liked this, and I really liked the price point. In some ways £4 for 4 hours is preferable to me than say £12 for 12 hours. I like the lower barrier for entry, it was a nice fun chunk of content. If we could get 3 or 4 of these for a game like this I could choose do I want another few hours, and so on. It's a good method of delivery for DLC.

Also, a lot of people jumped on this when it was announced with "oh why a year later" etc., sure some between then and now would have been nice, but there's something to be said for putting the game out for a year, letting everyone who's likely to play it play it, then drop some content for all to drag everyone back to playing the game. I think waiting a year though, you maybe wanna go the bigger chunk, bigger price point route, but this got me back in regardless and I enjoyed. I would buy another pack if they did another.

Yeah, loving how the different enemy types almost require a totally different approach. Also, I missed having ALL my guns available at once and not just having a main and a side arm. Why can't more games be like that.

I... I can't believe I'm even contemplating this but I want to give the game a 4th try....just need to know if there's someway to totally remove the pop in on pc.

It seems to be at its worst when you first boot up the game. It's fairly minimal once you're in the thick of things if your rig is decent. If it's any consolation, I stopped caring after a few hours in whereas it drove me insane at first.

It's definetly not as bad as it was when the game was released...with my NVdia 560 Ti,I had all kinds of pop-up problems and some weird artifacts on the road when driving the buggy...all that is left now besides the occasional pop up after a loading screen is sometimes I see a bright small blue square that sparkles for a sec at completly random places on the ground...

This.

The texture streaming problem is almost a no issue nowadays.

Then there must be a problem on my end then, because I loaded up my save and let the game load up everything. Did a 180, framerate went from 60 to single digits and every texture went blank/started loading. Did another 180, rinse repeat. I spent many many minutes just letting it "settle" in case it actually was a case of a first boot streaming issue but the problems persisted.

So what are the new mini-games? I really liked the mini-games in the main game. It gave some variety and they were nice side-attractions.

Mmm I want to say Roulette annnd a card game I think? Basically, you might have noticed the first time you played
jackpot's in wellspring
, that opens up and it's stuff in there. I just looked though, didn't play, the only minigame I ever played in the vanilla game was the thing where your virtual cowboy shoots the oncoming mutants, to get my cash kickstarted until I got to Bash Tv.

Ultimate Nightmare is pretty intense but I'm struggling more with the races. The first track requires you to drive 3 laps in less than 1:38, Nightmare is 2:05 D:

Ohhh yeah... I just reinstalled the game I forgot how amazing the shooting is in that game. That advanced wingstick!!! OMG... It's magical! lol.

Sucks that the last autosave puts you right before the last "boss"
(which is not a boss of course, just a shitty even)
and you can't go back to the world afterward. My previous save is in town but something like 1.5 hours less playtime.

I'm downloading the DLC right now, can't wait to play it.

Oh and it's the first time I play the game since I switched from my AMD card to my GeForce 570...haha wow. I was able to run it pretty much on max settings and 60fps before but I remember that it took me HOURS of fiddling with config files and stuff like that.

Now I just set everything to max and the bench gave me a 98% score lol.

Once you have downloaded the DLC< that first part shouldn't be a problem for you. It adds in going back to the world after the "final boss".

Did you have Texture Detail on ? I tried playing the game with it on, and while it starts of smooth, if I went into Wellspring, then back out into the Wasteland, frame rate would go single digits and textures would take ages to fully load up, good couple of minutes before it settled. Turning it off sorted it out.

I do. Also it appears I have fixed my problems.

I saw someone recommending using the following launch options :

+com_skipIntroVideo 1 (+)com_allowConsole 1+cvaradd g_fov 5 +jobs_numThreads 0 +set com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF 8

Obviously some of those won't affect the performance but by the process of elimination it appears that using the bolded command removed the framerate drops when textures got loaded in. The pop-in is still there but not as bad as before and much more importantly, as mentioned, won't affect framerate.

Ah crap...really? I started the dlc by loading the previous save instead... Oh well, I don't mind. I probably won't touch that save again once I'm done with the DLC.

Oh really? I knew it added that but figured I'd still have to start a new game as I didn't think it would retrofit. Haven't been able to free up the HD space for this monster yet!

I think I know why it took a while to adjust playing this on PC with the 360 controller...did they take away the auto aim or any kind of aim assistance that was there when the game came out on PC last year...I looked in the menu for some assist option and there is none...

At least according to the Bethesda blog responses man. Sadly I can't check since my save debacle , but their official word is if you are at the last point already, completing the game will put you back out in the eastern wastelands post end game!

Really want more new Rage to play now, that DLC has got the bug right back up in me. What is the posit on a Rage 2 right now? I remember word being wait and see how Doom 4 does before ID can look at doing anything else, did we get anything better than that afterwards?

Love having a reason to re-visit a game. And right now you can get both on steam for about $15. This was definitely one of my favourite games of 2011. If you go into it with the mindset that it's an id game then you'll find a world class action FPS.

As someone who never played Doom 3 when it was new (therefore sans nostalgia), would any of you guys recommend me giving the Doom 3 BFG edition a whirl to scratch that itch I've got right now? I read something about the game now being on the rage engine or something? Really wish ID put stuff out a little more regularly ha.

You have an nvidia card, right? You shouldn't need to use that command if you force the game to use all available CUDA cores (I assume this is why I had no issues with the game after updating to the BF3 beta drivers the day after launch).

Edit: vt_useCudaTranscode 2 is what you want.

Edit edit: Derp, spelling mistake in the cvar. Fixed.

I don't even know man, this game has the weirdest performance ever. 20% gpu usage and 30-60 fps ( literally, even if standing still and staring at a wall it'll drop to 40, up to 60, down to 30, etc and this is with v-sync on smart so drops to 30 shouldn't happen at all, especially when my gpu is basically sleeping )

Using the cudatranscode 2 line made it even worse somehow on my 670...

Turning that off the game seems to play a long semi-nice using ~4k resolution and 8xAA, paradoxically I almost have a 60 fps locked with those settings, the drops here are actual drops from tons of shit going on in battles and not a sharp drop to 30 fps for staring at an empty beer bottle.

I give up trying to understand... any other studio I wouldn't have bothered but man, what happened Id?

With the last update fixing the overly bright issues at launch it's a great way to go.
While I preferred the doom 3 flashlight style, coming direct to BFG you won't miss anything (I still enjoyed BFG as the flashlight makes the game a bit faster)

Controller support, 120hz, way faster loading, sweet motion blur & 3d if that's your thing. just be sure to set the LOD bias slider to the LEFT not the right for max quality :]

FYI it's a hybrid between id tech 4 and 5. Backend is 5, renderer is an improved 4.
Only thing is mods won't work (or in the case of the texture pack, needs a .bimage converter first) & the only other notable D3 mod The Dark Project is going standalone for next release :]

That makes no sense whatsoever, haha. Rage is so incomparably temperamental when it comes to certain hardware configurations. Here's hoping Doom 4 fares better.

I just started playing through the game on Ultra Nightmare and so far it seems a lot more challenging than I remember it being. The non-dlc parts are still not really hard, but
Mutant Bash TV round 2
is pretty tough (I breezed through part 1, but I already died several times on part 2 - granted, I'm low on ammo and health kits, but still).

Otherwise, shooting things up is still extremely satisfying (the weapon sounds are great, the enemies' animations and reactions to being shot are pretty impressive), and the game still looks really good (the textures might look low res but in my opinion it doesn't prevent the game from looking stunning). It doesn't run that well on my HD6770. It runs at 60fps almost all the time if I use fraps, but I get quite a bit of screen tearing even with v-sync on. I get almost no pop-up though (only for a second or two when entering a new area).

I think I'll get this, if its really four extra hours of gameplay.

I picked up Rage for £5 and just finished the main campaign. It just ended so abruptly like they ran out of time and finished the game half way through. I had no idea I was even at the final stage. The way it ends you don't really get a sense of what you were fighting for and what the hell authority is really up to. Even the ending cinematic is so brief and devoid of anything meaningful. It's like a random cut scene.

Warms my heart to see people being reminded just how stellar this game really was.

Is there a new trophy for Ultra Nightmare?

There is indeed. 70g on 360 so a Gold I guess on ps3.

With the last update fixing the overly bright issues at launch it's a great way to go.
:]

Thanks for the thoughts man. I wqas thinking about trying to fit Spec Ops or Syndicate in before the year ran out, but now I'm thinking Doom BFG first!

Man, Bash Canyon is pretty damn tough on Ultra Nightmare. I'm thinking I'm going to have to wait until I've got the advanced wingsticks, some more apophis infusions and maybe even an additional armor upgrade. I can get to round three, but those balloons dropping grenades everywhere on top of the mutants rushing you is a big pain in the ass. Still awesome though. If anyone has any suggestions it'd be most helpful.

150+ shotgun shells and fatboys. I ran out of shotguns and started using fatboys when i got to the monsters that toss the globs in round 3 or 4. I had to use a lot of bandages to stay alive through it. I didn't do it immediately as it unlocked but i was still really early, one infusion and medium armor upgrade i think, 111 health. If you are on a gamepad I can see you needing the extra buffer, it is very intense.

If you are okay with being a little cheesy you can use the defibulator and camp between rounds waiting for it to refill.

You did notice that the big guy on the air ship
has targets near him that drop bombs on him right.

Yeah I've been using rockets on the big guy during Round 2. I might take you up on the cheesing idea, but I hate doing that. Currently, I've got over 60 wingsticks, 80-90 shotgun shells, 40 Fatboys and 15 or so bandages. I just used an Apophis as well. Hopefully the third time will indeed be a charm. About to do it now and I just finished the Authority Prison mission. Basically all of my money has been spent on ammo, ingredients and schematics. Im thinking sentry bots could be rather helpful as well...

Just finished Round 3! Sentry bots helped a TON. Constructed two of them as soon as I got in and they basically took care of 85% of the enemies singlehandedly and still survived.

I've reached the Dead City, probably my favourite level, at Ultra Nightmare. oh god D:

Game is so fucking intense. I still wish headshots were more lethal but I feel that Ultra Nightmare is the difficulty this should be played at.
